Editor’s Note Hey there! I’m super excited as this is my first newsletter, and the first off the erm! I’m eager to show my love and dedication for key club and service in this next term, and hopefully you are too. As the new term starts, the school year is coming to a close; so study hard and finish strong!

April DCM + Park Clean Up

This event was both a cleanup and our first division council meeting the term! This DCM was a great opportunity to meet and talk to some of our newest on our division boards, along with seeing some familiar faces. There we discussed our successes of our last term and also shared our excitements for the many events in the future. After getting acquainted, we as a division went helped out our community by picking up trash in a local park (Red Hill in this case); it was great to see all of us together and kick off our term with the what we do best, service!

Kiwanis Track Meet Volunteering at the Kiwanis held track meet at Upland High School was such a great experience. Taking part in assisting our Kiwanis parent club and working at the event stations proved to be an exhausting task but was definitely worth it! Some things we did included setting up the flags, moving around the hurdles, recording distances, and throwing softballs! Watching the kids compete and succeed was a blast. Not only was I able to laugh a lot and bond with a few other key clubbers, this day really brought me back to my middle school years being in track! Wearing all black and jeans through the intense heat might have been a mistake, but it did not take away from how much I enjoyed it! -Sarah Tolentino

Hike Clean Up On the 28th of April of the 2018-2019 term, we had our first bi-monthly hike clean up of the term! The name of the event says it all! Early in the morning at 7:00 AM, members gathered at the Etiwanda Preserve Trail and hiked up to the waterfalls! Along the way we clean the trail up by picking up the trash; that way we can ensure the trail will be nice and tidy for anyone wanting to hike there as well! Not only do we get to preserve our environment, but we also get a good workout while bonding together! Reaching the top, members are rewarded with getting to experience nature at its finest, with the ambient sound of water flowing down the idyllic rocks! By 10:00 AM, we have hiked back down to our starting position, with all of us feeling good about all the hard work we just did to preserve our environment! -Galen Han

Global 6K for Water

At this event, we helped out with sign-ins, set-ups, and cheering on the runners during their 6k race at Highland Community Church in Rancho Cucamonga. It was a very fun experience, and six of our members were able to make it out. We may try to do more events like these throughout the year, as it was definitely fun to meet and chat with others in our community, while also helping others! The event gave participants the opportunity to bond with others and raise funds to donate water to a person who wouldn’t have it readily available. Overall it was super fun and a great kick off for our term! -Ryoko Mukai
