Priest: No to individualism by Natasha Ashley Austria

CAÑACAO CAMPUS – Commemorating the saints of the Order of Augustinian Recollects (OAR), the delegates of the 29th Students’ Congress of Recollect Schools (SCORES) attended a Eucharistic Celebration at the chapel of the SSC-R de Cavite Basic Education Department on November 13 to kick off the third day of the conference. Rev. Fr. Sixto Bitangjol, OAR, director of San Pedro Academy in Valencia, Negros Oriental, served as the main presider of the celebration. In his homily, Bitangjol dwelled on the importance of practicing the three attributes of the Augustinian Recollect charism

namely: communitarian, contemplative, and apostolic. “We defy that individualistic idea, we are here as one Recoleto [family] to support each other,” the celebrant said, as he explained what being communitarian is. “Kaya [natin ginagawa] itong congress is to instill in ourselves that we are

the instruments of that communitarian spirit.” Furthermore, the presider also discussed the importance of being contemplative and apostolic in order to graduate from a Catholic school. “We have to continue sharing our spirit to other people,” Bitangjol said.

After the Holy Mass, Rev. Fr. Samuel Eyas, OAR, Vice President for Religious Affairs of SSC-R de Cavite, presided over the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament while other priests made themselves available to hear individual confessions at the Recoletos 4th Centennial Gymnasium.
