The Taranta Power Station is a competition calling for a multifunctional facility in Melpignano, Italy to represent the Le Notte Della Taranta music festival held there every year, and to continue the same spirit during the remainder of the year. The program calls for multifunctional spaces including musical labs, a cafe, and an experimental theatre. Along with a partner we proposed Cultural Alchemy. A design around the concept of fusing music, history, and the spirit of Tarantism through cultural alchemy. We imagined what this would look like architecturally and developed our design around the experimental theatre. Taking the concept fused with the legend of a spider we developed the audiences under an abstracted steel web, and the building as a raised earth terrace with webbed structure and the stage as the fusing moment between the two.
