On a site close to the UTA campus situated on a block between Abram st. and Nedderman st. along Monroe ave. I was given the program to develop a sustainable mixed-use building of apartments, retail, office, and outdoor public space. Focused primarily on stitching the suburban surroundings with an urban idea emphasis was placed on creating a streetscape along the three streets that would encourage pedestrian use. Doing so creates a large court within for public and private use, and linking the separate buildings are semi-private communal zones for residence. Special attention was given to each facade to accommodate the sun and shading conditions, as well as proposing a water retention system. The overall layout was developed around a modular system of unit sizes to be arranged in a way that would allow to the striking cantilever of the fourth floor with Type V-A wood construction.
