KAYLYDE
Jake drumming with Kaylyde live at Bentley’s Bar, Lincoln.
As far as Lincoln rock bands go, KAYLYDE are possibly the most well defined classic hard rock band; With elements of modern hard rock accompanied by crunchy classic rock style guitar and thick, heavy bass riffs all sweetly sprinkled with melodic mid-range female vocals, they achieve a refreshing take on the genre. Their somehow clean version of an otherwise ‘gritty’ sound makes it believable that this could be the next big trend in the modern rock scene.

To find out more about a band with such promise, I spoke with Molly Cartawick (Lead Vocals) and Jake Laming (Drums) to get some exclusive insider information. Previously KAYLYDE’s bass player Sam Young had teased to me was that the band had something in the pipeline for the future, so I jumped straight in and asked what the band have coming? Molly responded “We do have new music coming soon! We actually recorded the track at the same time as ‘See Right Through You’ in 2019, we’ve been sitting on it since then!”

This next release is highly anticipated after their last single dropped in February 2020, and with this exciting new track comes another surprise for fans… Molly added: “We’ve waited to release this one because I wanted it to be the first song with a proper music video, but with Sam’s motorbike accident and mine and Jake’s house move the break has been needed!” On their current recordings, the band have a clearly defined sound, I asked about their recording process and which studio they use and why, Jake answered “We record with Hamish Dickinson at Phoenix Studios, we did our research to find the best producers for our sound and we found Hamish. We visited the studio and fell in love with it, the vibe was just right, and the room sounded great for drums! The sound of the drums can really change depending on the room!” Molly and Jake both agreed that getting along with the producer is a massively important, Molly claimed that “When we’re there with Hamish he’s like a sixth member of the band” Jake agreed and added “It’s because we have a laugh, but he’s brutally honest too, if I do a take and it’s not very good, he’ll say

Molly and Danny... Vibin’.

Even with a motorbike crash, moving house, and a music video shoot to contend with, KAYLYDE have landed themselves some impressive live bookings in 2022 including: headlining Rock Night III, supporting Carry The Crown at The Platform, but most notably, headlining the Dead Skull stage at Call Of The Wild festival. Headlining your first festival stage is no mean feat, it takes years of work and dedication, something this band have in spades. Until 2020 KAYLYDE managed to play a lot of great live shows, and it sounds like they were only just getting started, Molly even said: “We just got this snowball rolling and then COVID happened…” a true shame that yet another band fell victim to the 2020 sh*tstorm, luckily the band seem to have their heads screwed on and plan to hit this year with full force! As this may be some readers first experience of KAYLYDE, I asked Jake to sum up their sound in a few words to entice new potential fans, he proceeded to say:
