AMBRA B. GUTIERREZ RedefiningStrength, Beauty, andAdvocacyin Fashion
Interview by JOSE-MARIA JIMENEZ
From the glamorous runways of Milan to the frontlines of activism, Ambra B. Gutierrez has built a career that transcends modeling. As a woman of both Filipino and Italian heritage, she has navigated the fashion industry with resilience, breaking stereotypes while gracing the covers of GQ Italy , Vogue Philippines , and Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam . But beyond the striking editorials and high-profile campaigns, Ambra ’s true impact lies in her unwavering commitment to creating safer spaces within the industry. Whether advocating for model rights through the Model Alliance or supporting survivors of abuse, she uses her platform to spark meaningful change.
In this interview, she opens up about the defining moments of her career, the cultural influences that shape her identity, and the urgent reforms still needed in fashion. She also shares her experiences as one of the first voices in the #MeToo movement, her work with organizations like Safe Horizon and Humanility , and her vision for the future—both in modeling and beyond. Through her journey, Ambra proves that fashion isn’t just about beauty; it’s about using visibility for a purpose, challenging norms, and uplifting the voices that need to be heard.
PHOTOGRAPHER: ANTOINE VERGLAS @antoineverglas

You’ve had a remarkable career in fashion, from being Miss Piedmont to gracing the covers of GQ Italy, Vogue Philippines, and Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam. What inspired you to pursue modeling, and what has been the most defining moment in your journey so far?
I’ve always loved storytelling through images, and modeling felt like a natural extension of that passion. Winning Miss Piedmont opened doors for me, but what truly inspired me to pursue this career was the idea of representing strength and resilience and to break stereotypes . One of the most defining moments was seeing myself featured in Vogue Philippines —I love to represent the country, even if I’m born and raised in Italy I feel super close to the Filipino culture.
Being both Filipino and Italian, how has your multicultural background influenced your career and personal identity in the fashion industry?
Being both Filipino and Italian has given me a unique perspective on beauty, culture, and identity. The warmth and resilience of my Filipino roots combined with the elegance and artistry of Italian fashion have shaped how I approach my career. I’ve learned to navigate different spaces with adaptability, and I strive to bring representation to those who, like me, don’t fit into just one category.
You’ve worked with some of the biggest names in fashion. Is there a particular shoot or collaboration that stands out as especially meaningful to you?
Every collaboration teaches me something new, but working with brands that also improve the well-being and respect of models is always a plus for me, I am really focused to try and work with names that treat their workers in the right way, I was really impressed by well done and they treated everyone in the right way.
If you could give one piece of advice to aspiring models, especially those from diverse backgrounds, what would it be?
My advice is to know your worth and never let anyone define it for you. The industry can be tough, but staying true to yourself and standing up for what you believe in will set you apart. If you’re from a diverse background, embrace what makes you different—that’s your strength.
“ I strive to bring representation to those who, like me, don’t fit into just one category. ”
The modeling industry has evolved significantly in recent years. What changes have you noticed, and what aspects do you believe still need improvement?
The industry has become more inclusive in recent years, with more diversity in casting and greater awareness of model rights. However, there’s still work to be done, especially in ensuring fair treatment, financial transparency, and protections against exploitation. We need more systemic changes that go beyond surface-level representation.
You played a crucial role in exposing Harvey Weinstein’s abuses, an incredibly brave and pivotal moment in the #MeToo movement. How has this experience shaped your advocacy work and personal mission?
Speaking out against Harvey Weinstein was never just about me; it was about changing an industry that had protected abusers for too long. That experience made me realize the importance of advocacy. It’s why I continue fighting for safer workplaces— not just in fashion but across industries.
As a board member of the Model Alliance, you are helping to create safer and fairer working conditions for models. What are some key initiatives or changes you are currently fighting for?
At the Model Alliance , we worked on passing the Fashion Workers Act , which will provide legal protections for models and creatives. We’re also advocating for more accountability from agencies and brands to ensure models aren’t exploited financially or subjected to unsafe conditions.

You were the first artist to support the #MeToo movement in Iran. What drove you to take that step, and how do you see the movement evolving in regions where women face significant restrictions?
Supporting the #MeToo movement in Iran felt urgent because women there face extreme consequences for speaking out. I wanted to use my platform to amplify their voices. The movement is evolving globally, but we need to keep the focus on regions where speaking up is still a matter of life and death.
You’ve worked with organizations like Safe Horizon and Humanility. Can you share more about your involvement and how these organizations are making a difference?
Safe Horizon supports survivors of abuse, providing them with legal and emotional support, while Humanility helps rescue and rehabilitate street children. My work with these organizations is deeply personal because I understand how vital it is to have a support system when you’re trying to rebuild your life.
Given your experiences, what message do you have for women who may be afraid to speak out about harassment or abuse?
To any woman afraid to speak out: you are not alone. Your voice matters, and there are people who will stand by you. Speaking up is terrifying, but silence should never be the price of survival.
Your story was featured in Ronan Farrow’s book and HBO’s documentary Catch and Kill. What was it like to see your experience documented in that way?
Seeing my story in Catch and Kill was surreal. It was difficult to relive those moments, but I knew it was necessary. Ronan Farrow gave survivors a voice, and I’m grateful that my experience could contribute to a larger conversation about justice.
How do you balance the demands of a highprofile modeling career with your activism and personal well-being?
Balance is an ongoing challenge, but I prioritize my mental and physical well-being. Meditation, fitness, and surrounding myself with supportive people keep me grounded. I remind myself that it’s okay to step back and recharge when needed, I take a lot of trips to the Philippines where I found my happy place. What’s something about you that people might not know—any passions, hobbies, or personal projects outside of fashion and activism?
People might not know that I love painting— it’s my escape. I’m also passionate about sustainability and hope to work on projects that merge fashion with ethical and eco-friendly practices.
Looking ahead, what are your goals for both your modeling career and your advocacy work? Do you see yourself expanding into other industries or creative ventures?
I want to continue using my platform for meaningful change, whether through fashion, advocacy, or new creative ventures. I’m also passionate about mentoring the next generation of models, ensuring they enter the industry with knowledge and confidence.
“Speaking up is terrifying, but silence should never be the price of survival.”

THE
RETURN OF MINIMALISM AND SLEEK SILHOUETTES
The '90s are back, and fashion lovers couldn’t be happier. The decade that brought us Kate Moss in slip dresses, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy in chic monochrome, and Calvin Klein’s understated aesthetic is having a major moment in 2025. The revival of ‘90s minimalism isn’t just about nostalgia—it’s about timeless elegance, clean lines, and a refined approach to style that feels just as modern today as it did decades ago.
By JOSE-MARIA JIMENEZ
WHY IS ‘90S MINIMALISM BACK?
Fashion is cyclical, and in a world filled with maximalist trends and fast fashion, minimalism offers a refreshing alternative. The post-pandemic shift toward thoughtful consumption and capsule wardrobes has also played a role in bringing back

sleek silhouettes, neutral color palettes, and highquality fabrics that define ‘90s fashion. Designers like The Row , Jil Sander , and Phoebe Philo are leading this charge, proving that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
KEY ELEMENTS OF ‘90S MINIMALISM
If you’re looking to channel the effortless elegance of the ‘90s, focus on these core elements:
• Slip Dresses & Satin Skirts – Inspired by supermodels like Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss, bias-cut silk and satin pieces are wardrobe staples.
• Monochrome Looks – Think all-black ensembles or soft beige, white, and grey palettes for a sleek, polished aesthetic.
• Relaxed Tailoring – Oversized blazers, straight-leg trousers, and minimalist suiting embody ‘90s power dressing.
• Simple Tanks & Ribbed Knits – A basic white tank or fitted knit top paired with vintage denim is a quintessential ‘90s uniform.
• Strappy Sandals & Loafers – Footwear should be refined and understated, with barely-there heels or structured loafers adding to the minimalist vibe.
• Minimal Accessories – Small leather handbags, fine gold jewelry, and slim sunglasses complete the look without overwhelming it.
HOW TO INCORPORATE ‘90S MINIMALISM INTO YOUR WARDROBE
• Start with a Capsule Collection – Invest in timeless, well-constructed basics like a black slip dress, a tailored blazer, and high-waisted trousers.
• Stick to a Neutral Palette – Whites, blacks, greys, and earthy tones are key to achieving that effortless ‘90s aesthetic.
• Choose Quality Over Quantity – Opt for wellmade, structured pieces that elevate even the simplest outfit.
• Keep It Clean & Streamlined – Avoid excessive layering or embellishments. Let the silhouette speak for itself.
• Mix Vintage with Modern – Pair a vintage leather blazer with a modern bodysuit for an updated take on ‘90s fashion.

WHERE TO SHOP THE TREND
• The Row – For ultra-luxurious, modern minimalism.
• Jil Sander – High-fashion meets simplicity.
• Reformation – Sustainable slip dresses and structured tailoring.
• Totême – Effortlessly chic basics with a Scandinavian touch.
• Vintage Stores & Thrift Shops – For authentic ‘90s finds that stay true to the era.
The beauty of ‘90s minimalism lies in its versatility. Whether you’re dressing for work, a night out, or a casual day, its clean lines and effortless silhouettes make it easy to look polished without trying too hard. This timeless trend is proof that, sometimes, less really is more .

KRISTINA K CRAFTING THE FUTURE OF FASHION WITH ART, INTELLECT, AND SOUL
Interview by JOSE-MARIA JIMENEZ
In an industry often defined by fleeting trends, designer Kristina K stands apart, creating garments that transcend time and space. Her designs are more than just clothing—they are narratives woven from history, technology, and human emotion. With a philosophy that merges intellect, artistry, and sustainability, Kristina K envisions a future where fashion is both an aesthetic and a statement, a medium through which wearers can express their individuality while embracing innovation.
In this exclusive interview, she shares the inspirations behind her avantgarde creations, the depth of storytelling embedded in each design, and her commitment to blending functionality with high-concept artistry. From exploring smart fabrics and bio-engineered textiles to collaborating with artists across disciplines, Kristina K continues to push boundaries. Here, she offers insight into her creative process, her vision for the future, and the legacy she hopes to leave behind in the world of fashion.

Your brand emphasizes creating “the dream clothes of our future.” What inspired this forward-thinking approach to fashion?
I’ve always believed fashion should do more than reflect the present—it should spark a conversation about what’s possible in the future. Growing up surrounded by art, dance, theater, and technology, I envisioned creating a world where fashion wasn’t just about what we wear today, but what we might wear tomorrow. I design pieces that transport people, evoke emotion, and encourage them to dream. It’s not just about being fashionable, it’s about creating something timeless yet progressive— clothes that speak to a future full of beauty, innovation, and limitless possibilities.
You describe your work as where “fashion meets intellect and soul.” How do you incorporate these elements into your designs?
Fashion to me isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about depth, emotion, and meaning. I merge intellect with art, drawing inspiration from history, architecture, and cutting-edge technology to create pieces that provoke thought. But at the heart of it all, is the soul—the way a garment makes you feel when you wear it. Every detail is intentional, from the structure to the movement, creating designs that are visually striking and emotionally powerful.
me, it’s about creating a dialogue between the wearer and the design—a connection that goes beyond the surface.
What does your design process look like from concept to completion? Do you start with a story, emotion, or material?
My process is very fluid, driven by intuition. It all starts with a spark—an emotion or a story that creates an entire world in my mind. From there, I dive into materials, textures, and silhouettes, exploring how they’ll bring that vision to life. There’s a lot of experimentation— sketching, draping, and tweaking—until the design feels right. Each piece evolves naturally, with wearability and narrative working handin-hand.i trust the process, it` s my favourite part.
“I design pieces that transport people, evoke emotion, and encourage them to dream. ”
How do you assign meaning to each design to evoke an emotional response from your audience?
Every piece I create tells a story. Whether it’s through symbolism, texture, or shape, I want the wearer to feel like they’re connecting to something bigger than just the fabric on their body. I carefully choose materials, colors and silhouettes to evoke specific emotions— strength, nostalgia, or a sense of wonder. For
Comfort, wearability, and functionality are core principles of your brand. How do you strike a balance between practicality and artistic expression?
For me, art and life are inseparable. Fashion should look extraordinary, but it should also function seamlessly in real life. I blend sculptural elements with fluidity, making sure that even the most avantgarde pieces are easy to wear. Thoughtful construction, innovative fabrics, and a deep attention to detail let me create garments that feel as great as they look. I also love incorporating adjustable details—pieces that can be added or removed depending on the occasion, making them versatile and adaptable. And through the power of styling, I can transform the same garment into different ensembles, ready for any event or situation.
Many designers pull inspiration from specific movements or eras. Do you have any particular influences that guide your aesthetic?
My aesthetic is a mash-up of the past and the future. I’m inspired by the elegance of classical art, the boldness of futurism, and the drama of the theater/ cinematography. There’s a certain magic in the craftsmanship of couture and the fluidity of dance that I blend into my designs.
I like to be inspired by people on the streets, see what and how they wear it, because its also answering the times and rhythm we are living in. I don’t focus on one era; I reinterpret historical influences through a contemporary lens, creating something that feels timeless yet visionary.
How do you incorporate sustainability into your creations?
Sustainability is at the core of what I do. I’m always experimenting with ways to reduce waste—recycling materials and garments , using natural fabrics for ready to wear pieces , and opting for made-to-order or smallbatch production. I also like to incorporate unconventional materials—like plastic waste or foil fabrics—to create something beautiful and functional without compromising the planet. For some projects i can use just what i have left from others... It’s about being mindful in every step of the design process and making pieces that are not only stunning but also responsible.
As you create “future” clothing, how do you envision technology shaping your designs or materials in the coming years?
Technology and innovations is something really moves me. I would like to to use some tools in my near future. Technology is a game-changer in fashion. I’m already seeing how smart fabrics, 3D printing, and bio-engineered textiles can open up new possibilities for sustainability and creativity. I’m particularly excited about materials that respond to movement, light, or temperature—where fashion becomes not just something you wear, but something that interacts with you. As technology advances, I want to integrate it seamlessly into my designs, pushing boundaries while staying true to the
emotion and artistry behind each piece.
Who is the Kristina K client? What qualities or values do they share with your brand?
The Kristina K client is bold, creative, and unapologetically individual. They’re not interested in trends; they want something that speaks to their unique story. They value quality, craftsmanship, and sustainability, and see fashion as an extension of themselves. My clients are forward-thinking, confident, ready to experiment and passionate about supporting artistry and innovation—wearing clothes that are as meaningful as they are beautiful.
How do you hope your clients feel when they wear your designs?
I want my clients to feel like they’re wearing something made just for them—a piece that empowers them and enhances their presence. When they slip into a Kristina K design, I want them to feel confident, inspired, and connected to the story behind the piece. Fashion should be a celebration of who you are and who you aspire to become, and I want my designs to help tell that story.
Your philosophy positions fashion as wearable art. Are there specific artworks, artists, or creative disciplines outside of fashion that inspire you?
My inspiration is drawn from every corner of the creative world—art, architecture, theater, film, and even social movements. I’m constantly seeking out new ideas, whether it’s from the powerful emotions of a painting or the intricate design of a building. My clients’ stories also inspire me—each design is a response to the needs, desires, and dreams of the people who wear them.
“My inspiration is drawn from every corner of the creative world—art, architecture, theater, film, and even social movements. ”

Have you collaborated with artists or creators from other fields to enhance the artistic aspect of your pieces?
Absolutely. Collaboration is essential to my process. Whether I’m working with a director, a photographer, , videographer or a composer, these collaborations take my designs to new heights. Each collaboration adds a fresh perspective, pushing my work further and bringing new dimensions to the story I’m telling through fashion and costumes. These crossdisciplinary partnerships allow us to create something truly unique and memorable.
How do you see your brand evolving over the next decade?
In the next decade, I see my brand expanding to embrace all forms of artistic expression— from couture to costume design for theater and film, ready-to-wear, and even bridal. I’m excited about exploring how technology and craftsmanship can coexist, and I see my work growing into a multidisciplinary creative powerhouse. The goal is to push boundaries and continue evolving while staying true to my artistic identity.
What legacy do you hope to leave within the fashion industry?
I hope to leave a legacy that shows fashion is more than just clothing—it’s an art form that can shape culture and empower individuals. I want my designs to inspire others to see fashion as a powerful tool for self-expression, and I hope to contribute to a more sustainable, inclusive, and innovative fashion world. Above all, I want to be remembered for creating designs that resonate emotionally and intellectually, transforming how people feel when they wear them.
If you could offer one piece of advice to aspiring designers who want to combine art, intellect, and function in their work, what would it be?
My advice? Stay true to your vision, no matter how challenging the journey. Combining art, intellect, and function is no easy feat, but it’s incredibly rewarding. It takes passion, persistence, and a deep connection to your craft. Push boundaries, embrace failure as a valuable part of the process, and never stop learning. Your unique perspective is your greatest strength— always trust in it, stay faithful to yourself, and never betray your dream..
“I’m excited about exploring how technology and craftsmanship can coexist, and I see my work growing into a multidisciplinary creative powerhouse. ”

AI MEETS COUTURE
How artificial intelligence is reshaping creativity on the global runways
By HILLARY STREITBERGER
Fashion Week 2025 has kicked off around the globe. Stunning portrayals such as edgy silhouettes and elegant fabrics have donned the runway in New York, Paris and beyond. Thousands of VIPs have traveled to attend the coveted runway shows in attire that represents the designers on display. The short period of time we must take that all in, often seems like weeks long. There are so many looks to process, critique and gain inspiration from and AI is also on the scene. This makes us wonder what is in the future for original works of wearable art.

Designers like Schiaparelli and Issey Miyake are among the beautifully bizarre. With designs that are edgy and almost techlike— possibly pushing in the direction of AI generated art. It leads you to wonder, what designers are open to it? Designers seem to have different takes on if they will use it, how they will use it and how they are coping with what is to come. Back in February of 2024, Vogue Business asked a group of creatives if AI belonged in the world of fashion design. Curiosity was a definite trend.
Some were opposed, others were intrigued and a select few recognize we must except it. That raises the question of “Is it easier to simply conform as a large name brand to make the manufacturing process quicker and easier?” Well, my mind is on the creative themselves. Is originality dead, or does this digital tool provide more originality. I must say that there have been times I have searched for certain products online and very intriguing and breathtaking designs have come up and I scoured the internet inquiring where I could make a purchase, only to spiral down a deep hole in the web to find out it's unavailable to me because it’s just an AI image.
Overall, the lines seem a bit blurred. I believe a year later we are closer to AI taking over fashion, let alone everything else. I can confidently say artificial intelligence won’t be going anywhere anytime soon, but I have made it clear that we are creatives first. Exploring and playing with AI in the realm of fashion is incredible to see in portfolios and curating platforms such as Pinterest. As I consumer, I value you the hand made as unique. Standing firm on AI just doesn’t fit the idea of original creativity, to me.
