Blanca, you've played a wide range of roles in both film and television. What has been the most challenging role for you so far, and why? One of my most challenging roles was playing Melanie in “Betrayed." Melanie was a complex villain, dealing with deep emotional trauma and inner conflict. Bringing her to life required me to tap into intense emotions and experiences. The preparation involved understanding her psychological state and undergoing rigorous physical training. It was exhausting but gratifying. The challenge pushed me to grow as an actress and taught me the importance of empathy and resilience. I was honored to receive multiple Best Actress awards for this role. This role will always be special because it pushed my boundaries and expanded my horizons.

Your performance in "Eye For Eye" earned you a Best Actress award. Can you tell us about your preparation for this role and what it means to you to receive this recognition?

Being considered for an Emmy was surreal and incredibly validating. It felt like a recognition of the hard work and passion I poured into the character. It's such an honor, and feels great for my work to be recognized by the Television Academy.

As an actress with a background in psychology and social work, how do you think your education has influenced your acting career?

Being considered for an Emmy was surreal and incredibly validating”

Preparing for my role in 'Eye for Eye' was a profound experience. I immersed myself in the character's background, motivations, and emotional struggles to make the performance as authentic as possible. Winning the Best Actress award was deeply humbling and gratifying. It affirmed my hard work and dedication in the role resonated with others. This recognition motivates me to continue challenging myself and taking on diverse roles.nse in all of these locales and more.

You were an Emmy contender for your role in "Tale of Tails." How did you approach portraying Lola, and what was it like being considered for such a prestigious award?

Portraying Lola in 'Tale of Tails' was an enriching experience. I delved deep into her character, understanding her complexities, strengths, and vulnerabilities. I aimed to bring authenticity and depth to her, making her relatable yet unique.

My background in psychology and social work has profoundly influenced my acting career. It has given me a deeper understanding of human behavior, emotions, and motivations, which I apply when developing my characters. This education allows me to portray complex, multi-dimensional roles with authenticity and empathy, helping me connect more deeply with my characters and make my performances more resonant and impactful.

Your book "Breaking the Mold" became a bestseller and won the Literature Award in 2021. What inspired you to write this memoir, and what message do you hope readers take away from it?

I wrote my book, "Breaking The Mold," during the devastating COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown. In it, I share my personal experiences and struggles. I aimed to be completely transparent and vulnerable about my past to offer guidance and strength to others during difficult times. If I had not experienced trauma in my life, I would never have known how resilient and capable I am of overcoming challenges. It gave me the determination necessary to break the cycle of poverty. Through my pain and challenges, I have learned to thrive, and I wanted to share my story to inspire others.

I hope readers take away a sense of empowerment and the belief that they can break free from societal molds and carve their paths. I want them to feel that, despite obstacles, they have the strength to pursue

their dreams and embrace their true selves.

You are a regular on the red carpet at major award shows and film festivals. How do you choose your outfits for these events, and what does fashion mean to you?

Choosing outfits for the red carpet is a collaborative and thoughtful process. I find pieces that reflect my personality and the event's tone. I love bright colors, and I avoid black clothing. I also consider the latest fashion trends. Each outfit is a statement, blending elegance with a bit of boldness.

Fashion is a powerful form of self-expression. It’s not just about wearing beautiful clothes but also about conveying confidence, individuality, and sometimes even a message. It's a celebration of artistry and a way to connect with people without saying a word.

You've collaborated with top luxury brands like Versace, Chopard Christophe Guillarme, Chiquelle etc.. What have been some of your favorite fashion collaborations, and why?

Collaborating with luxury brands has been incredibly rewarding. Each brings unique creativity that allows me to explore different styles. Working with Christophe Guillarmé provided a unique charm with his elegant and contemporary designs. Each collaboration brought its flair, blending creativity and excellence in unforgettable ways. Working with Chopard was also an incredible experience. Chopard ’s exquisite craftsmanship in jewelry added a touch of timeless elegance to my fashion on the red carpet. Being the face of Chiquelle for the Elle magazine campaigns was equally rewarding. Collaborating with Chiquelle was exciting due to their fresh, trendy approach to fashion. Their innovative and dynamic style brought a youthful and contemporary edge. I like to push fashion boundaries, and the outfits I put together with brands often result in best-dressed lists. These experiences have enriched my red carpet-presence and allowed me to express diverse facets of my personality

through fashion.

Your social media presence is strong, with viral posts and significant engagement. How do you balance maintaining authenticity while managing such a large following?

I focus on sharing content that genuinely reflects who I am, engaging personally with my followers, and prioritizing quality over quantity in my posts. Transparency about both successes and challenges helps keep my presence relatable. I balance authenticity with an engaged following by setting boundaries to maintain privacy.

Philanthropy is clearly important to you, with your support for organizations like the LA Mission and Stand Up to Cancer. Can you share more about your involvement in these causes and why they are important to you?

Philanthropy holds a special place in my heart, and supporting organizations like the LA Mission and Stand Up To Cancer allows me to contribute to causes that deeply resonate with me.

My involvement with the LA Mission stems from a strong belief in giving back to the local community and addressing homelessness. I've seen firsthand the transformative impact a supportive community can have on individuals struggling to get back on their feet. Through volunteering and advocacy, I aim to raise awareness and support for the vital services the LA Mission provides.

Stand Up To Cancer is another cause close to my heart due to my connections to cancer. I've witnessed the challenges faced by loved ones battling this disease, and I am committed to supporting cancer research, education, and patient services. By participating in fundraising events and public awareness campaigns, I hope to contribute to the fight against cancer and support those affected by it.

Both causes are important to me because they address crucial human needs—offering

hope, relief, and a path to recovery. Through my involvement, I aim to make a tangible difference and inspire others to join these efforts.

Your role in "Betrayed" opposite John Savage earned you a Best Supporting Actress award. and how did you develop your character for this film?

Developing my character for 'Betrayed' was incredibly immersive. First, I thoroughly absorbed the script, tapping into every nuance and relationship. Research played a significant role. Creating a detailed backstory grounded my performance. Collaborating with our director, John Savage , and fellow actors enriched the character, adding layers and depth through consistent discussions.

The emotional connection was vital. Relating her feelings to my life made the character's emotions more authentic. Rehearsals allowed us to experiment, finding what resonated most. Finally, focusing on her physicality— posture, gestures, and speech—brought her to life.

Winning B est Supporting Actress was the ultimate reward for our collective effort. I'm proud of what we achieved together!

As an international model, you often appear on Best Dressed lists. What are your top fashion tips for looking stylish and sophisticated?

From my experience as an international model, the key to looking stylish and sophisticated is all about fit. Clothes that are tailored to my body make a world of difference. I’ve learned to invest in high-quality, timeless pieces and to stick to bright colors. Accessories play a huge role, too, and can elevate any outfit. Confidence is everything; wearing what makes me feel empowered is crucial. Lastly, attention to grooming and small details, like polished shoes and neat nails, always ensures a polished, sophisticated look.

In "Finding Nicole," you play the role of therapist Katarina Lopez. What drew you to this character, and how did you prepare for the role?

I was drawn to the character of therapist Katarina Lopez in 'Finding Nicole' because of her depth and resilience. Katarina ’s role in guiding others through their challenges while navigating her complexities resonated deeply with me. My background in psychology gave me a solid foundation for understanding her mindset and the therapeutic process. I used my previous therapy work experiences and techniques to bring authenticity to the role, which immensely helped with my portrayal. This preparation allowed me to embody Katarina with the empathy and strength she needs to support her clients, reflecting the true spirit of a dedicated therapist.

Can you share any insights into the storyline of "Finding Nicole" and how your character, Katarina Lopez, fits into the narrative?

I’d say try to find your own niche and make it special. Find what you’re passionate about, envision it, develop it, and improve it. As a designer you naturally love everything you create; but often designs ripen over time, in a sense they need to simmer. That process can’t be rushed. Play around with prototypes and ask yourself if that’s the best version of your initial idea. There are no shortcuts when it comes to jewelry.

Therapists play a crucial role in their clients' lives. How did you approach portraying a therapist authentically, and did your background in psychology help you in this role?

Portraying a therapist authentically was essential to me. I focused on empathy, active listening, and professionalism.

My background in psychology helped. It gave me a deeper understanding of the therapist-

“Portraying a therapist authentically was essential to me. I focused on empathy, active listening, and professionalism.”

client relationship and its complexities. It also enabled me to grasp therapists' emotional nuances and ethical responsibilities.

Combining thorough research with my psychology knowledge allowed me to create a genuine and compassionate character, helping to connect with the audience.

Looking ahead, what upcoming projects are you most excited about, and what goals do you have for the next phase of your career?

I'm excited about a few upcoming projects that showcase diverse storytelling. I can't reveal

much yet, but one involves a thriller film that delves into complex human emotions, and another is a heartfelt drama about overcoming adversity. Check out the Finding Nicole film release at the end of 2024.

For the next career phase, I aim to tackle more challenging and varied roles that push my acting boundaries.

Ultimately, I aim to continue growing personally and professionally and contribute to projects that resonate deeply with audiences.

In this issue, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Neda Moarefi and Sara Shahabeddin , the brilliant mother-daughter duo behind Lozzee Collection —a boutique that masterfully merges timeless fashion with modern geometric designs. With Neda ’s 30 years of experience in the fashion industry and Sara ’s fresh perspective, the two have created a brand that celebrates individuality while honoring the elegance of precise geometric patterns. Their bond, creativity, and mutual respect are evident in every piece they design, making Lozzee Collection a testament to the power of family and shared passion.

We delve into the journey that led them to launch Lozzee Collection , exploring how geometry inspires their collections and what it's like to navigate the world of fashion as a mother-daughter team. From the challenges of blending classic and contemporary design elements to the rewards of working together, Neda and Sara share valuable insights into the process behind their innovative creations. Join us as we uncover the story of Lozzee Collection and the vision that drives their unique brand.

SARA SHAHABEDDIN & NEDA MOAREFI LOZZEE COLLECTION FOUNDERS

Lozzee Collection is a unique mother-daughter boutique. How did your shared journey in fashion design begin, and what inspired you to start this venture together?

Our journey in fashion design began long before we ever thought of starting a business together. My mother has been in the fashion industry for over 30 years, and I grew up watching her bring her visions to life through clothing. Her passion and dedication to the craft were infectious, and as I got older, I started to develop my own love for fashion, particularly the elegance and precision of geometric designs. We decided to start Lozzee Collection as a way to merge our creative energies and bring something truly unique to the market—designs that reflect our shared aesthetic while celebrating the individuality of every woman who wears them. Your designs emphasize geometric elegance. Can you tell us more about how geometry influences your creative process and how it’s reflected in your collections?

geometry is always at the heart of our creations. With 30 years of fashion design experience behind Lozzee Collection, what are some key lessons you've learned that continue to guide your work today?

One of the most important lessons we've learned is the value of staying true to your vision. The fashion industry is constantly changing, but we believe that by remaining authentic to our aesthetic and design principles, we can create pieces that stand the test of time. Another key lesson is the importance of attention to detail. Every stitch, every fabric choice, every pattern is carefully considered to ensure that we are delivering the highest quality product to our customers.

“We are both drawn to the clean lines, symmetry, and precision that geometric shapes offer”

How does the dynamic between mother and daughter shape the creative direction of your brand? Are there moments where your design perspectives differ, and how do you resolve those differences?

Geometry is the foundation of our design process.

We both have a particular fondness for geometric shapes, and when it came time to name our brand, we instantly knew it had to be Lozzee—a Persian word meaning "rhombus" or "diamond shape."

We are both drawn to the clean lines, symmetry, and precision that geometric shapes offer. For us, these elements are not just about creating visually appealing pieces, but also about conveying a sense of balance and harmony. Each piece in our collection is carefully crafted to incorporate geometric patterns in a way that feels both modern and timeless. Whether it’s a bold rhombus pattern or subtle angular details,

Our dynamic is one of the things that makes Lozzee Collection so special. We bring different strengths and perspectives to the table, which helps to create a well-rounded and innovative brand. Of course, there are times when our design perspectives differ, but we see these moments as opportunities for growth. We take the time to discuss our ideas, listen to each other’s points of view, and find a middle ground that combines the best of both worlds. This collaborative process ensures that our designs are not only unique but also resonate with a wide audience. Your boutique combines timeless fashion with a contemporary twist. How do you strike the balance between honoring classic design principles and staying fresh and modern?

Striking this balance is one of our top priorities. You’ll be amazed to see the age range of our customers.

We start by grounding our designs in classic silhouettes and techniques that have stood the test of time. From there, we experiment with modern elements—whether it’s through the use of unexpected materials, innovative cuts, or bold patterns. The key is to ensure that these contemporary touches complement rather than overpower the timeless aspects of our designs. This approach allows us to create pieces that feel both familiar and fresh, appealing to customers who appreciate the elegance of classic fashion but are also looking for something new and exciting.

Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in the fashion industry. How do you incorporate sustainable practices into your design and production processes at Lozzee Collection?

We focus on minimizing waste by carefully managing the amount of fabric and clothing we produce, ensuring that nothing goes unused. This approach helps us create products that are both responsible and sustainable.

The mother-daughter partnership is central to Lozzee Collection. What has been the most rewarding aspect of working together, and how does it impact the way you connect with your customers?

Lozzee is a journey of learning, where my mom became my university, teaching me the craft that she had mastered over the decades.

The most rewarding aspect of our partnership is the bond it has strengthened between us. Working together on Lozzee Collection has allowed us to combine our strengths and create something that neither of us could have achieved alone. This deep connection is something that

resonates with our customers—they see the love and passion that goes into each piece, and it creates a sense of authenticity and trust. Our story as a mother-daughter duo also allows us to connect with customers on a personal level.

What advice would you give to aspiring designers who are inspired by Lozzee Collection and want to create a brand with a strong, unique identity?

Lozzee Collection started just from an idea, but what makes an idea become reality is more than just talk. I believe that I made Lozzee from the ground with my hard work. Therefore becoming a designer requires patience and skill that you must have beforehand. Designing is more than just pen and paper, and to become a true individual who follows their heart, that individual must have the courage to see this to the end. One last piece of advice I must give is to gather people who can truly appreciate and understand you. This is crucial to succeeding in this line of work because trusting and working with people is truly hard. Each individual has their own ideas, and handling those ideas requires skills and patience that ultimately take you back to that first step, because having those skills and education is the number one factor in your success.

What’s next for Lozzee Collection? Can you share any upcoming projects or collaborations that your customers and fans should be excited about?

Although we cannot predict the future, our team is preparing to create live shows with our incredible team to showcase our new collection. We hope that we can make this happen and thus create a wonderful memory for everyone involved.

“Working together on Lozzee Collection has allowed us to combine our strengths and create something that neither of us could have achieved alone. ”

IRINA ZHDANOVA MODEL AND INFLUENCER

With her striking presence and charismatic energy, Irina Zhdanova has graced the covers of L’Officiel and Glamour , becoming a prominent figure in both the modeling and social media spheres. Her journey, fueled by a childhood dream and sparked by an unforgettable Naomi Campbell moment, has taken her from the streets of her hometown to the runways and campaigns of elite fashion hubs.

In this interview, Irina opens up about the hard work behind her success, the balance of being a model and influencer, and the ever-changing landscape of the fashion industry. From personal style tips to her thoughts on social media's transformative power, Irina ’s insights offer a refreshing look into the mind of a modern fashion icon. Let's dive into her inspiring journey and learn how she stays ahead of the curve while staying true to her authentic self.

Irina, you’ve been on the covers of prestigious magazines like L’Officiel and Glamour. How does it feel to see yourself on such iconic publications? It feels amazing to see myself on the covers of magazines like that! It’s such a rewarding feeling after all the hard work I’ve put in. I’m really proud of how far I’ve come and grateful for the opportunities that have come my way. It’s a nice reminder that dedication and perseverance really do pay off.

Can you share the story of how you first got into modeling? Was this always a dream of yours?

Absolutely! When I was a kid, I saw Naomi Campbell in Michael Jackson's "In the Closet" video and was totally mesmerized by her beauty and grace. That moment really inspired me, and I knew I wanted to be in the fashion industry someday.

At 14, I heard about a local modeling agency while walking down the street. I decided to check it out, and though I didn’t sign a contract right away, it set things in motion. A few months later, I got a contract, finished modeling school, and that’s how my career took off. My first big break came with Elite Models in Shanghai, and things just grew from there. You have a significant following on social media. How do you balance being both a model and an influencer?

“I love working with brands, meeting interesting people, and sharing beautiful moments. ”

my jobs, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities they bring. I love working with brands, meeting interesting people, and sharing beautiful moments. I’ve gotten good at creating engaging content from even the most ordinary days. But if I ever feel tired, I just take a break, enjoy some time in nature with a book, or spend quality time with loved ones. It helps me recharge and keep things in balance.

Fashion constantly evolves. How do you stay ahead of trends while also staying true to your personal style?

With my experience in style and modeling, I’ve learned that following trends blindly isn’t the way to truly be stylish. Instead, focus on which colors and silhouettes flatter you and which ones don’t. Color analysis can really help with this. Also, understanding your Kibbe type can guide you in choosing styles that work best for you, while mixing in other styles to keep things fresh. The key is to highlight your own unique style and personality, because that’s what really makes you stand out.

What role do you think social media plays in the modern fashion industry, especially for models like yourself?

Modeling and being an influencer are both

These days, getting noticed is easier than ever, thanks to social media. You can land gigs with top brands and earn good money even without a long background in the industry. Clients often

prefer models with a strong online presence over those with private accounts and a limited circle of followers. It’s all about marketing and commerce - brands see the value in working with media-savvy models. Social networks really open up opportunities and break down barriers in the industry!

With your experience and influence, do you feel a responsibility to use your platform to address important issues, whether within the fashion industry or in a broader social context?

Absolutely, I do feel a responsibility to use my platform for more than just fashion. With my experience and influence, I believe it's important to address meaningful issues, both within the fashion industry and beyond. Whether it’s promoting diversity and inclusivity in fashion or raising awareness about broader social issues, I want to use my voice to make a positive impact and contribute to important conversations.

How do you approach content creation for your social media platforms? Do you have a specific strategy or aesthetic that you aim to maintain?

When it comes to content creation, I focus on authenticity and consistency. First of all, I do what I really like. I love planning content that highlights both my professional work and everyday moments, striking a balance between polished and relatable. I get inspired from movies, music videos and art. This approach

helps keep my social media engaging and genuine, and ensures that my content resonates with my audience while staying true to my style.

As an influencer, you often collaborate with brands. How do you decide which brands to partner with, and what factors are most important to you in these collaborations?

For me, it’s crucial to work with products I genuinely love. When I take on advertising, I only choose products that I use and enjoy myself. The brand’s philosophy has to align with my own values. I want my followers to have a great experience with the products, just like I do, so they need to be high-quality and worth the investment. I’ve built long-term relationships with a few brands that I’m truly passionate about, so I feel confident promoting them to my subscribers

With the rise of short-form content like TikTok and Instagram Reels, how do you adapt your content to keep up with these trends?

Trends change every day. What was popular yesterday is no longer relevant today. I follow what is trending, but still rely on my own visuals and taste first and foremost. I have a very interesting pattern - the less I think through a video, the more views and engagement it gets. For some reason, the coolest and most planned videos get fewer views, so I try to trust my visuals. Usually it works.

“I love planning content that highlights both my professional work and everyday moments. ”

How do you deal with the challenges of social media, such as negative comments or the pressure to always appear perfect?

I have a really cool and supportive audience. I get very few negative comments and I don't have to deal with anything negative, but when it does happen, I just ignore it. People who write bad things have nothing to do with me. As I like to say - let negativity roll off you like water. Focus on what lifts you up and keep moving forward. What impact do you hope to have on your followers, both in terms of fashion inspiration and beyond?

I hope to inspire my followers by showcasing fashion that’s both stylish and authentic, helping them feel confident in their own skin. Beyond fashion, I aim to share positivity and encourage them to pursue their passions and embrace their unique selves. My goal is to make a positive impact and support them in feeling empowered and motivated in all areas of their lives.

How do you stay creative and inspired when

producing content, especially in such a fastpaced and competitive environment?

To stay creative and inspired, I make sure to keep things fresh by exploring new experiences and ideas. I love experimenting with different styles and trends, and I stay connected with other creatives for new perspectives. Taking breaks and finding moments of relaxation also helps me recharge and come up with innovative content. By staying curious and true to my passions, I keep my content exciting and original. I love to get inspired from movies, fine art and music videos.

Looking ahead, what are your goals for the next few years? Are there any dream collaborations or projects you hope to pursue?

I’m planning to sign a few more contracts with modeling agencies, and my big goals are to land a campaign for Agent Provocateur and to be part of a Dolce & Gabbana fashion show! I’m excited to keep growing in the industry, build my career, and hopefully inspire others along the way..

“I hope to inspire my followers by showcasing fashion that’s both stylish and authentic, helping them feel confident in their own skin. ”

OMBARE INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

As we step into the sunlit studio in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, I’m immediately greeted by the warm presence of Ambere, the visionary founder of Ombare. The space, much like the brand she has meticulously crafted, exudes a sense of radiant sensuality and inclusivity, with every detail reflecting the ethos of empowering women through thoughtful, sustainable lingerie. Ambere, with her calm yet passionate demeanor, welcomes me into her creative haven, where the energy is as vibrant as the city outside. It's clear from the outset that this is more than just a workspace—it's a sanctuary of inspiration, where each piece of Ombare’s collection is born.

Founder & Designer

Can you tell us the story behind the founding of Ombare?

I spent most of 2017-2019 traveling globally and decided to settle back in LA when I returned to the US. I was struck by the disparity in how women are represented in media here versus the other countries I visited. I read an article years prior about how after 35, women start becoming invisible, and I thought, “No way, not me.” But as I transitioned back into American life, I started noticing it. It was painfully obvious that women aged 40-50 were simply missing in most advertising, media, and movies. The aging hunks of Hollywood were continuously paired with college coeds, while the beauty queens of prior times were left to fight over the paltry "mother" roles. Goldie Hawn said it best in First Wives Club : “There are three ages for women in Hollywood: Babe, District Attorney, and Driving Miss Daisy.”

It was early 2020; I sat in a room filled with women of all shapes, degrees, and backgrounds at a female-forward networking group in Downtown Los Angeles and just marveled at the amazing power of these women making connections and moving our community forward. It was just on the heels of the J.Lo and Shakira Super Bowl Halftime show, where I was absolutely flummoxed by the internet trolls that doggedly trashed these powerhouse athlete women for “dressing younger than they should” “at their age.”

diversity. The goal is to help women be seen. All women.

How do you approach the design process to ensure your pieces are flattering for all body types?

I work tirelessly on prototypes. I have a variety of fit models that assist me during the design phase. My Bombshell and Siren sizes are literally different patterns, not just scaled up from traditional sizes. Smaller sizes need a different fit than larger ones. Larger sizes will have broader straps, more support where needed, and many of our pieces are double-lined to add a slimming effect.

“I wanted to include all of the things that inspired me personally: body inclusivity, diversity. ”

I was suddenly inspired. Something had to be done.

What inspired you to focus on size inclusivity and women over 40 in your brand?

Ombare is inclusivity. That is its mantra, its battle cry. The main focus is on inclusivity with age, but I wanted to include all of the things that inspired me personally: body inclusivity,

Can you talk about the materials and fabrics you choose for your lingerie and loungewear?

I’m very driven by color and feel. I touch all of the fabrics and make many of my design decisions based on the fabrics I want to work with. I source with overstock fabrics where I can, and most of our pieces are made with limited fabric runs, meaning we utilize what is available on a shorter run to minimize waste. So when we run out of a color or fabric, we run out.

I have a background in restaurants, and it is best practice to run out of things each night to ensure freshness. We are fresh fashion, not fast fashion.

How has the response been from your target demographic—women over 40?

So far, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. People want to know more, they want to support. They love the approach and being seen.

Ombare features a diverse range of models, including transgender models. Why is this representation important to you?

Before I started my globetrotting ways, I resided in San Francisco for 15 years. I have always been an ally, and I will always be an ally. As a

cis-gendered woman, I know that I cannot fully understand the struggles other communities face, but I can and will do everything in my power to create a safe space for women of all backgrounds to connect, communicate, and feel heard. Including diversity with this brand is simply woven into the fabric of who we are and who we want to be.

What challenges have you faced in promoting size inclusivity in the fashion industry?

Helping manufacturers understand that sizing is not just a matter of scaling percentages. It is not just more or less fabric on a piece. Explaining that my pieces are designed to fit and flatter, which requires a different way of approaching pattern-making, seems to be unusual for many. How do you stay updated with the latest trends while maintaining your brand's unique identity?

I attend trade shows and such to see what colors and ideas are trending, but mainly my goal is to create classic pieces that are made well and designed to last through the trends—items that are staples that can be paired with other things in a fun way.

Can you share some success stories or feedback you've received from your customers?

Gen X women love what I am doing; they identify with my mission to help more women over 40 feel seen. Gen X women have struggled through so many things, fighting to be heard and taken seriously in boardrooms and beyond, so the next generation has a path.

They love how comfortable and soft the fabrics are. They love that they can be comfortable and sexy at the same time.

How has being based in California influenced your brand and designs?

I am a California girl at heart, and so I like to mix it up. We have fun, colorful pieces as well as more dramatic, sexy looks. I wanted to create long-lasting versatile pieces that can be for lounging at home as easily as styled with other pieces for a night out. I think living in California has inspired the ready-for-anything approach.

What are some of the key pieces in your FW24 collection that you're excited about?

Nyx is the first set designed by me. It came to me in a dream, and I woke up and scribbled a sketch that later turned into Nyx . It is double-lined, so it can easily be a super sexy poolside look, and it has no underwire, so it’s still super comfy for longer wear or lounging. It looks stunning in white, and I cannot wait to showcase it.

How do you ensure that your designs remain comfortable and stylish for your clientele?

I spend a lot of time in the prototype stage of design. I use several different fit models to make adjustments and changes before putting any of the items into production. I want to see how the pants move, and I want to see if we need different straps to avoid digging, etc. I’m looking forward to introducing underwire to the collection, but only when I find a sustainably sourced option that is toxin-free.

I’m focusing more on natural fibers for future collections as well.

What role does sustainability play in your brand?

Fashion is one of the dirtiest industries, and it is partially due to the manufacturing process using toxic dyes and excessive water usage,

“I wanted to create long-lasting versatile pieces that can be for lounging at home as easily as styled with other pieces for a night out. ”

but mostly it’s the landfills. Fashion that gets outdated quickly or is made poorly and doesn’t last adds to this problem. I source fabrics that are overstock from larger designers that would otherwise go to landfills. It’s why each collection is run as a limited edition color, etc.

How do you balance creativity with the practical aspects of running a business?

I’m a Libra, so balancing is an art to me. I think it starts with the creative process of coming up with an idea and running with it. To keep the business side in check, I live and die by my calendar. I block time for the different aspects of what needs to be done.

Can you describe a typical day in your life as a designer and business owner?

Busy. Mapping out my days, weeks, and months is imperative. I see balancing my life/work as a three-legged stool: professional vs. health vs. social/family. I try to keep these three things balanced time-wise because I am the typical American workaholic but realized a while ago that my goal is to work to live. I take many trips, travel often, spend time with friends, and reward myself consistently with yoga, good food, and fun workouts.

How do you see the lingerie and loungewear market evolving in the next few years?

There is a lot of competition in this space. I think the brands that will stand the test of time will be the ones that deliver consistent quality and strive to give back. The trend for me as a

consumer is wanting to know more about the story behind the brands I purchase from.

What advice would you give to aspiring designers who want to focus on inclusivity?

Inclusivity is what started this brand! If you see something underrepresented, call it out visually. Talk about it; allow more people to be seen.

Can you talk about a time when you had to overcome a significant obstacle in your career?

I’m pretty persistent, so I’ll sit on issues for a day or two to work them out. I have found that to be a crucial component: allowing myself space to contemplate an obstacle before executing a solution. I work out many of these things while sleeping. I will literally sleep on it and wake up with ideas to overcome.

What upcoming projects or collaborations are you most excited about?

I’m super excited about our anniversary. It’s amazing that the idea was originally as simple as “I want to get older women represented on billboards” to now having had multiple Times Square and Sunset Blvd Billboards.

I’m really looking forward to doing a roadshow in 2025. Popups and activations across the country where I can meet and greet people personally and open up conversations on age inclusivity!

How do you hope to see Ombare grow and evolve in the future?

So many things! I hope to continue.

MISHI MINÓ ELEGANCE & INNOVATION

Michelle Silva , the visionary force behind the burgeoning swimwear brand MISHI MINÓ , has turned a lifelong dream into a thriving reality. From her early days as a makeup artist in the bustling streets of New York City, where she worked alongside industry icons, to the serene coastal landscapes of Portugal that ultimately inspired her brand, Michelle 's journey is a testament to perseverance and passion. Her commitment to creating limited edition pieces that blend Scandinavian minimalism with vibrant, hand-painted prints sets MISHI MINÓ apart in a crowded market.

In our exclusive interview, Michelle shares the creative and ethical pillars that underpin her brand. From her intricate process of handpainting prints to sourcing luxurious Italian fabrics known for their ecofriendly properties, every piece of MISHI MINÓ swimwear is crafted with meticulous attention to detail. Michelle ’s Scandinavian roots influence her design philosophy, emphasizing comfort, quality, and timeless elegance. Join us as we delve into the inspirations behind MISHI MINÓ , the challenges Michelle has faced, and her vision for the future of her brand.

MICHELLE SILVA MISHI MINÓ Founder & Designer
Photo: HENRIK ADAMSEN
Photo: JONAS JENSEN

Michelle, what inspired you to create MISHI MINÓ, and how did your journey in the fashion industry begin?

It has always been a dream of mine to have my own brand, to design and launch my own collections. After living by the coast in Portugal for some years it was sort of a” calling” I just knew I wanted to make swimwear and that’s basically the beginning of Mishi Minó

My journey within the fashion industry started many years ago as a makeup artist. At a young age relocated from Sweden to NYC for a while, to work as an assistant to world known makeup artist Brigitte Reiss-Andersen

During the time in NYC with her, I got the privilege of working with and to meet lots of inspirational people, many, including her, who had reached for their dreams and made it there.

A few years ago, I decided it was time for me try to reach for one of my dreams. I knew if I didn’t try, I would end up one day really regretting it.

Can you tell us about the process of hand-painting the prints and designing exclusive patterns for MISHI MINÓ?

I want my prints to be unique, to be ’one of a kind’, and for that they’ll have to be made from scratch. For example, for the ’ Fogo ’ and ’ Sal ’ print I teamed up with my friend Leonor Brilha , a Portuguese artist who helped interpreted my visions with her beautiful art.

The quality of your fabrics is a standout feature. How do you source your luxurious Italian fabrics, and what makes them unique?

I only buy fabrics from a well-known Italian brand, that’s been producing elastic fabrics for swimwear for over 50 years. They are top of the game and have a reputation to remain. The cost is obviously more but so is the quality. They also provide eco-friendly fabrics, which is very important to me.

Fit is paramount at MISHI MINÓ. What steps do you take to ensure each piece has an exceptional fit and great longevity?

I believe that design, fit and quality go together and should never be compromised on, therefore, the designs do not only look fabulous, but also have an exceptional fit and great longevity. Being a part of the whole process is important and to not ever saying that it’s good enough, it should be great. And YES, it’s been blood, sweat and tears but it paid off ;)

“I want my prints to be unique, to be ’one of a kind’, and for that they’ll have to be made from scratch. ”

Ethical manufacturing is a key component of your brand. Why did you choose to produce your swimwear in Portugal?

I chose Portugal so that I could follow the production step by step and to know how the swimwear is being manufactured. There’s been way too many cases of slavery and child workers in the manufacturing industry and that I could never tolerate.

How does Scandinavian design philosophy influence your creative process and the overall aesthetic of your swimwear?

Scandinavian fashion represents the alliance of design, minimalist staple pieces, comfort, quality and wearability. My focus is to create fashion-forward, yet timeless swimwear, that are comfortable to wear and flatters the female body..

What challenges have you faced in establishing MISHI MINÓ as a limited edition swimwear brand, and how have you overcome them?

To be honest it was a real challenge to find a manufacturer that was willing to make smaller collections with my own designs. Many manufacturers want to produce big quantities or sell you already made designs to basically just pick a colour/print out of a catalogue and then put your logo on, and that was very far from what I want to do.

Photo: JONAS JENSEN

Can you walk us through a typical day in your life as a designer and founder of MISHI MINÓ?

The days vary very much from where you are in the process. I’m a part of everything from the design and making of the swimwear to the photoshoots and so on. So, it can be sitting with pen and a paper sketching, picking out fabrics, visiting the manufacturer, being on set for a photoshoot to sitting at home by my computer.

Sustainability is a hot topic in fashion. How does MISHI MINÓ approach sustainability in its production and design processes?

By having limited edition collections and not over produce pieces, and by using ecofriendly fabrics. I believe it is important to keep Mother Earth in mind, to fight for our wildlife and ecosystem.

Mishi Minó proudly support the non-profit charity organization The Perfect World foundation. TPWF does a lot of great things for our planet, and if you are not familiar with them you should check them out. Their next award winner is music icon Ellie Goulding, and they have for example previously awarded Sir David Attenborough and Dr. Jane Goodall to mention a few.

What inspired your latest collection and what can customers expect?

For my latest collection, GAIA, I drew inspiration from Mother Earth. The GAIA collection comes in three different colours and one print. Tangerine is inspired by the vivid hues of an African sunset, Titanium takes our imagination on a foot journey to the black sand beaches of Tahiti, while Saharan Beige summons wind-swept dunes and mirage-suffused journeys. Archipelago, this

collection’s signature print, is an homage to the volcanic formation of island chains, which we see as a reminder that Mother Nature exists in a continuing cycle of renewal and rebirth.

You can expect eye-catching swimwear, and sustainable comfort that will flatter your curves. You must feel comfortable to feel sexy!

Not that long ago, Grammy-winning artist Tyla was spotted wearing a MISHI MINÒ swimsuit, please tell us more about that.

Yes, Tyla was wearing the ’Nova one piece’ in Saharan beige on a red-carpet event. I had absolutely no idea about this until one day when Mishi Minó was getting tagged in a real/ video on Instagram. Such an honour!

Looking ahead, what are your future plans for MISHI MINÓ? Are there any new projects or collaborations on the horizon?

Someday I’d love to be able to expand my brand and be more inclusive when it comes to sizes, for now Mishi Mino’s swimwear comes in three different sizes, small, medium and large.

It would also be fun to do collections for both men and children as well. And beachwear!

Yes, there sure are some exciting collaborations coming up however, nothing I can share quite yet, but stay tuned!

What advice would you give to aspiring fashion designers who want to create their own brand, especially in the swimwear industry?

There is a quote by Henry Matisse that really speaks to me ’Creativity takes courage’, I try to remind myself of this from time to time. I design swimwear that I like, you can’t please everyone with your art. And yes, have fun!

“I design swimwear that I like, you can’t please everyone with your art. ”

FASHION CAPITALS of the WORLD

BEYOND PARIS AND MILAN

When we think of fashion capitals, Paris and Milan often dominate the conversation. These cities have long been synonymous with luxury, elegance, and tradition, shaping the global fashion landscape for decades. However, as the fashion industry becomes increasingly diverse and interconnected, new cities are stepping onto the world stage. These emerging fashion capitals are making unique contributions, pushing the boundaries of design, and reshaping the future of fashion. From the avant-garde to sustainable innovations, here are the cities redefining the fashion map.

COPENHAGEN: THE EPICENTER OF SUSTAINABLE FASHION

Copenhagen has emerged as a beacon for sustainability in fashion, thanks to the city’s commitment to eco-friendly practices and ethical production. Home to the highly influential Copenhagen Fashion Week , the city has become a platform for brands prioritizing environmentally conscious designs without sacrificing style.

Labels like GANNI and By Malene Birger are making waves with their focus on upcycling, ethical sourcing, and transparency. Danish designers are proving that sustainability can be synonymous with high fashion, balancing minimalistic Scandinavian aesthetics with innovative techniques. Copenhagen ’s approach to fashion is reshaping how the industry thinks about consumption, pushing other fashion capitals to adopt greener practices.

SEOUL: THE NEW HUB OF K-FASHION

Seoul has exploded onto the global fashion scene, propelled by the unstoppable rise of Korean pop culture, or Hallyu . With the success of K-pop and K-dramas captivating international audiences, Korean fashion has also gained widespread recognition. Seoul Fashion Week has become a must-watch event, where designers combine street style with a futuristic flair that reflects the city’s dynamic culture.

Brands like Gentle Monster , Andersson Bell , and We11done are championing Seoul’s unique aesthetic— one that mixes high-tech innovation with traditional Korean elements. Seoul ’s fashion scene is youthful, experimental, and highly influenced by the city’s fastpaced, tech-savvy environment. The city’s designers are redefining streetwear, blending bold colors, oversized silhouettes, and futuristic details that set them apart from other fashion hubs.

LAGOS: AFRICA’S RISING FASHION STAR

Lagos , Nigeria , is fast becoming a major player in the global fashion industry. The city is home to Lagos Fashion Week , which has grown exponentially over the past decade, showcasing the work of African designers who are fusing traditional textiles with modern silhouettes. Lagos is the heartbeat of Africa ’s fashion revolution, where designers are not only making a name for themselves but also pushing the boundaries of what African fashion can be.

Designers like Lisa Folawiyo , known for her intricate beadwork and vibrant prints, and Orange Culture , which blurs gender lines with its fluid, androgynous designs, have garnered international attention. Lagos ’ fashion scene is as diverse as the continent itself, blending bold patterns, rich colors, and culturally significant details to create collections that celebrate African heritage while appealing to global audiences. from other fashion hubs.

MEXICO CITY: A HOTBED FOR ARTISANAL FASHION

Mexico City has become a thriving hub for emerging designers who are making waves with their commitment to craftsmanship and tradition. While the city may not yet be considered a fashion capital on par with Paris or New York , it is rapidly gaining recognition for its unique contribution to the global fashion scene.

Designers like Carla Fernández and Yakampot are leading a movement that celebrates indigenous craftsmanship, incorporating traditional Mexican techniques into contemporary fashion. These designers are working with local artisans to create garments that tell a story—blending cultural heritage with modern silhouettes. The result is a fashion scene that feels deeply personal, artistic, and rooted in community.

Mexico City ’s influence goes beyond just design; it’s also playing a significant role in promoting sustainable, slow fashion. The emphasis on artisanal production and ethical sourcing reflects a broader global shift toward conscious consumerism.

BERLIN: A PLAYGROUND FOR AVANT-GARDE DESIGN

Berlin has long been known for its underground art scene, and its fashion industry reflects that same rebellious, avant-garde spirit. The city has become a playground for experimental designers who push the boundaries of traditional fashion norms. Berlin Fashion Week showcases a wide range of talents, from streetwear to couture, often with a focus on political activism and social commentary.

Berlin ’s fashion scene is unconventional, with an emphasis on self-expression and individuality. Designers like Ottolinger and William Fan embody the city’s bold and fearless approach to fashion, combining deconstruction with sustainability. Berlin is also a hub for fashion tech, with designers incorporating smart fabrics and digital elements into their creations, making the city a pioneer in the intersection of technology and fashion.

TOKYO:

THE INTERSECTION OF TRADITION

AND FUTURISM

Tokyo ’s fashion scene has long been revered for its eccentricity and innovation. From the bustling streets of Harajuku , where avant-garde streetwear reigns supreme, to the traditional craftsmanship found in kimono-making, Tokyo offers a unique blend of the old and the new.

Tokyo Fashion Week serves as a platform for some of the most forward-thinking designers in the world. Brands like Comme des Garçons and Issey Miyake have been at the forefront of avantgarde fashion for decades, while newer labels like Ambush and Sacai continue to push the envelope.

Tokyo ’s fashion scene is deeply influenced by technology and futurism, but it remains anchored in a respect for traditional Japanese artistry.

SÃO PAULO: SOUTH AMERICA’S FASHION POWERHOUSE

São Paulo is the beating heart of Latin American fashion, with its own vibrant fashion week— São Paulo Fashion Week —that showcases a wealth of creativity from the region. Brazilian designers are known for their mastery of color, print, and texture, often drawing inspiration from the country’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.

Brands like Osklen and PatBo are making waves internationally, combining tropical motifs with sophisticated designs. São Paulo ’s fashion industry is also at the forefront of the sustainable fashion movement, with designers prioritizing ecoconscious materials and ethical production. The city’s fashion scene is as diverse as its landscape, offering everything from beachwear to high fashion, all while embracing an unmistakably Brazilia n flair.

THE FUTURE OF FASHION

These emerging fashion capitals are reshaping the global fashion industry by offering fresh perspectives, pushing the boundaries of creativity, and challenging the status quo. As the world becomes more interconnected, the fashion industry is becoming more inclusive and diverse, with new voices from all corners of the globe contributing to its evolution. The rise of these emerging fashion capitals signals a new era in fashion—one where tradition meets innovation, and the possibilities are truly limitless.
