Where stories are made...
To some, hunting is simply a sport. But in West Texas, hunting is a lifestyle. The Texas Parks and Wildlife department supports enthusiasts with a place to hunt on over 1 million acres of publicly accessible land located throughout Texas. Hunt areas include property owned by TPWD, acreage leased by the department from other state and federal agencies, forest products industries, and other cooperating private landowners. There are many land leases owned by private entities that expand opportunities for any hunter to enjoy and experience. Discover West Texas and happy hunting.

THE HUNT What’s your story.?
G
rowing up in West Texas might mean that you’ve got your own hunting story because as the seasons change so does the game and there’s always an opportunity to tag your next “big one.” There is so much about the great state of Texas to love and providing hunting enthusiasts support is one of them. Not only does Texas Parks and Wildlife Organization provide public areas for experienced hunters, but the organization also even expands support to beginners and those searching for a new outdoor adventure. The organization offers a simple road map to getting anyone outdoors and on their way to earning their own hunting story. There are three steps suggested, 1) take a hunter education course, which is offered in person or online, 2) Buy a hunting license, and 3) know the rules and regulations. The Texas Parks and Wildlife website even offers videos for anyone to gain knowledge and skills in various topics such as: hunting ethics,

shooting safety, hunting day preparation, animal behavior, hunting tactics, scouting, and more. Texas Parks and Wildlife highlights a hunter’s development in six stages. The more you hunt, and over time, an individual’s behavior and approach will progress. Though, there is no definitive sequence of the six stages a hunter will go through and may experience each one through their own experiences and timing. The stages are outlined as: Shooting Stage: The impulse here is to get off a shot quickly, usually at the first animal that appears. This eagerness can lead to bad decisions like the wrong animal being chosen, a poor shot being taken that wounds the animal or even a shot that endangers others. Target practice, good mentoring and more experience will lead most hunters out of this stage quickly.
Limiting Out Stage: this hunter wants to always bag the limit. This may cause a hunter to take unsafe shots or misidentify targets in the zeal to limit out. More experience and hunting with mature hunters will lead hunters out of this stage. Trophy Stage: Success is judged by quality, not quantity. The hunter is very selective and will pass on many opportunities that do not match the desired trophy characteristics. Many trophy hunters focus on big game. The hunter’s patience and commitment must be highly evolved.
Sportsman Stage: the total experience of the hunt is what is important to the sportsman such as what animal is being hunted, how it is being hunted, the immersion into nature and the companionship of who you are hunting with. all combine into creating a more sophisticated appreciation of the hunt. Whether you are an experienced hunter or new to the hunt. Welcome and happy hunting.
Method Stage: the process and challenge of hunting becomes the primary focus of the hunter. A more challenging method, such as using a bow, muzzleloader, or handgun may be chosen. The hunter may choose to stalk or still hunt, rather than sit in a stand next to a feeder.

High Lonesome Ranch
3
2,400 acres available for Whitetail & Exotics on the Schleicher/Crockett county line just south of San Angelo Tx. Family owned and managed property with a comfortable rock house for hunters lodging with a pool table. The terrain on the ranch is gentle rolling hills with Oak and Cedars along with Mesquite flats and large draws. The diversity of terrain is ideal for the whitetail herd which is strictly managed. No trophy hunts have been offered for several years until recently and only mature bucks are harvested. There is a healthy population of native game, little to no livestock, virtually no Coyotes and No Hogs (yet).
Diamond TF Ranch
This ranch is a hunters paradise being close to town (Sonora Tx), easily accessible and a great interior road system. There are 5 separate food plots kept up year round strictly for wildlife and water sources throughout. There is a great managed deer herd, strong turkey numbers and various exotics such as Scimitar Oryx, Black Buck and Axis all on the low fence portion of the ranch. There is also a high fence part that is as equally managed where only a couple of trophy hunts will be offered each year. We will also offer Management, Culls and Meat hunts on this side. The south pasture is south Texas native genetics, not altered in any way and on our northern portion
the ranch is managing for 200”+ cleaner racked genetics that can be offered at very completive rates. High fence deer hunts will be on MLD season meaning you use tags issued to the ranch and the season is extended opening sooner than regular
season and closing later. There are also Impala, Dybowski Sika, Wildebeest, Oryx, and TX Dall Rams on this part of the ranch offering a wide variety of species for everyone to enjoy

The Rancho Consuelo Property is 8,000 acres located in Val Verde county in Juno Tx and has just been opened to the public starting from the 2013 season. The ranch is heavily protein fed year round along with corn feeders and a decent road system. Multiple watering stations and elevated blinds are set up around the ranch, this allows our Deer hunters to rotate hunt locations if needed. Terrain on the ranch is all large rocky hills with big grassy mesa tops and cedar hill sides. Good rains on the ranch most of the year along

with heavy protein and minimal to no hunting pressure will prove this ranch to be another little honey hole. The ranch contains multiple large draws and drainage’s running throughout with Oaks and an occasional Mesquite. There is plenty of cover on the ranch for wildlife which also makes it hard to spot and stalk at times so our primary tactic will be to stand hunt first and rattling is permitted if it does not affect other hunters on the ranch. The Whitetail rut here usually starts to kick off early to midDecember.
6
Los Cuernos Ranch Los Cuernos Ranch is a 4,000 acre highly game managed property a short drive outside of Sonora Texas in Sutton county. Multiple planted fields provide an excellent food source for the wildlife on the ranch. Terrain is medium hills with big Oak & Pecan bottoms with a few mesquite flats offering diversity for the wildlife. Lodging on the ranch is a 3 bed room
house with central heat & air. Up to 8 hunters can be accommodated in the lodging area. Wildlife on the ranch consists of a healthy herd of Whitetail, Axis, & Rio Grande Turkey. Ranked as one of the Top West Texas Trophy Whitetail Deer Hunting Destinations in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 by Ranch Review and Outfitter Connection!
