singles mixer Project Description For this project I designed a singles mixer. My concept for this project was to design a social event that focused on building relationships. My objective for this project was to find a venue, design the advertising aspect, and to decorate the venue with well designed products. My design was very Keith Haring inspired and overall was a huge success. I managed to book a great venue, Turbine Flats Workspace, and host an event with more than fifty people. Turbine was nice enough for me to rent out the space for free, and in return I had to curate a show using their workspace. The curated event featured University of Nebraska Lincoln undergrads and it was displayed for two months in the space. I coordinated with over thirty artists and displayed over seventy pieces of works. Overall I believe that this project helped me gain real world experience and I had fun while doing it.

ARO Project Description For this project I worked with a team of designers and other creatives at the annual A2RU 2016 conference in Ann Arbor, Michigan. With this team we had to create an organization that would somehow help society and present it to the whole conference. As a group we created ARO. ARO is a non-profit organization connecting displaced or homeless creators to their art and communities through resources and opportunities. I was part of the design team that collaboratively worked on this ARO logo and presentation. This experience taught me how to work well with others and really be a team player.

marriage project
Project Description The marriage projects main goal was to collect information from different demographics. The question I asked was what makes an ideal wife/husband? I wanted this to be a simple interactive design where the people are the designers. I hung up huge posters in different areas throughout Lincoln. Places I installed were at a bar, church, senior center, college campus, and middle school. The results were surprising. This project taught me a lot about public graphic design and also how to collect information in a unique way.

fragture typeface
Project Description The fragture typeface project concept was to create a typeface of your own design and display it in a public place. This typeface I designed was inspired by the father of the atomic bomb, Julius Robert Oppenheimer. When I think of the word “bomb, I think of fragmentation. Which lead to this fragmented typeface I designed. I projected on a glass window at Turbine Flats workspace which people were able to see on the outside of the building.

elchapo poster
Project Description The el chapo poster objective was to create a typeface that interacts with imagery. My concept was to have an image of el chapo behind bars and overlay a quote from el chapo on top of that image. The quote is important because even though el chapo is behind bars, he still has an influence on what goes on in Mexico. I also wanted to document it in mood specific setting where the poster can have a relationship with it’s environment. This project taught me how to use current events in todays society and turn that into design.

warhol mapplethorpe publication
Project Description The warhol mapplethorpe publications main objective was to inform an audience of similarities and differences these two artist shared. It’s a sixty four page publication that displays a plethora of works between the two artists. This project taught me how to layout spreads and really utilize the design aspect of two pages as opposed to a single page. This project showcases my strengths in publication design.

the raven
Project Description The raven publications objective was to redesign and re-type set a whole story from the grimm fairy tales book. For this project I explored a gradient aesthetic while also including unique textures within it’s design. This project helped me develop key publication design skills and also helped with type setting skills. It also introduced a new type of product design which was pretty exciting.

black space gallery
Project Description The black space gallery experience creates a platform where student and public artists can sell their works. It’s hard to promote art that isn’t in a gallery or workspace. Black space gallery allows the advertising and purchasing of art. Blackspace will be using the social media app, Instagram, to promote and display high quality images of artists masterpieces. All works listed will have a brief description of the concept, type of medium used, dimensions, and an artists statement. Blackspace explores the relationship between artsy online shopping and fine art gallery. It establishes a middle ground that gives artists the opportunity to make pro t without the hassle of promoting their own works. Blackspace will benefit upcoming artists who need exposure in a social light.

Artist Statement /// J$ My work explores the relationship between being dope AF and just making things people will never forget. With influences as urban culture and amazing art mentors. I’ve developed my own style and form. Ever since I was a child I have been fascinated by street art and fashion design. What started out as a vision of becoming a designer soon became something more. I found shared interests in sculpture and ceramics. I now use these mediums not only for the fine art aspect but now to create a business around it. “Being good in business is the most fascinating kind of art. Making money is art and working is art and good business is the best art. /// Andy Warhol
