Greetings Human, I am Hexatype 2013, the worlds first Hexagon based geometric sans-serif typeface. I represent the future of typography in graphic design. Let me tell you a little bit about myself.
The Big Idea
I was created as an expansion to the geometric sans-serif category of typefaces. Before my creation there were only four categories: Circular, Square, Elliptical and Triangular, each category representing what the typeface is based off of. I am unique because I do not fit into any of these categories; I am based off of a hexagon. Hexagons offer the pleasant curves of a circle and the rigidness of a square into one package, which is where I come in. I bridge the two categories to create a typeface that is the best of both worlds. I am the next generation typeface of tomorrow, a perfect geometric typeface that can be used for both display and copy. Welcome to the future.

The Beginning
I began my life as every other typeface, as nothing more than an unrealized idea. The idea for me was that I would expand the Geometric Sans-Serif class of typefaces. I look nothing like my original vision either. Let me show you.
This is what the original minuscules, Numbers, and a few symbols looked like. This set of characters was based on hexagons with a pointed bottom. The grid shows that the minuscules were based off of a 3X3 grid with a ascender/descender hight of two units.

This is my original set of majuscules, again based off of a hexagon with a pointed bottom. The original sketches were based off of a 5X5 grid.

This is the second set of minuscules designed for me. This set is still based off of the same dimensions as the first set; however, this time it is based off of a hexagon with a flat bottom.

My majuscules were not working out with a 5x5 grid, no matter what was changed. So a final set of characters was created based on a 3x5 grid. These characters became my final characters, with a few modifications here and there.

Digital Process The process of becoming a typeface in the computer was the next step. I was constructed one character at a time in Adobe Illustrator using several premeasured hexagons and strait lines. Here is an Illustration showing the process of creating the minuscule b.

Digital Characters Here are several of my original letter forms, before I was made into an actual working typeface. I now have smaller ascenders and descenders which make me more legible.

How should I be used in design?
I am a really good typeface; however, I am not perfect fot every single situation.
I should be mainly used for Headings and display. I am clearly legible at these large sizes. At small sizes like this I am still fairly legible and redable, but I am not as good as I could be; please don’t use me at these sizes or for body copy. Instead use a serif typeface like my friend Garamond.

You should also know that I work best when my tracking value is equal to my size value.
