Kingfisher
Kingfisher Chef/Owner Brian Kaderavek came to Pensacola after extensive experience in two of the country’s best restaurant markets – and a stint on TV. The result? In just six months and with little more than word-of-mouth, Kingfisher has gained a growing following with its innovative cooking, fresh ingredients and creative Tiki bar. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Brian has served as the Executive Sous Chef at Cochon in New Orleans and held the same title at Manhattan’s Aquavit. Both are James Beard award-winning restaurants. Before moving to Pensacola, Brian was the chef de cuisine at Vivian Howard’s Chef & The Farmer, the North Carolina restaurant featured on the Emmyaward winning PBS series, A Chef’s Life. Kingfisher is entirely casual and serves sandwiches, soups, salads, and platters. The changing menu uses produce from local farms, fresh seafood and Florida beef. Buns, chips, fresh-cut crinkle fries and desserts are made in-house. Tiki drinks, beer and wine are served.
“Pensacola has provided an incredibly warm welcome,” said Kaderavek. “My wife and I bought a home in the city and soon after opened K i n g f i s h e r. We have received terrific encouragement from the restaurant community, the City government has been enormously helpful, and our guests have come back time and again with friends and family. It’s been a great experience and we’re honored to be part of Pensacola’s growing restaurant scene.” In its first six months, Kingfisher has prepared lunches for the Powerful Women of the Gulf Coast, operated a booth at the Cordova Mall Ball to support the Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart, and was one of 13 restaurants invited to participate in the WSRE public television fundraiser, Pirates, Pinot & Pearls.
The modernized 50-year old Kingfisher building features a retro interior and extensive free parking. It’s open at 1500 Barrancas Avenue for lunch from 10-3 Monday through Thursday and from 10-10 Friday and Saturday for lunch and dinner.

Pensacola Bay Brewery The Craft Beer Movement is a return to flavorful, authentic beer — and American brewers are leading the way. The Pensacola Bay Brewery is no different; we choose ingredients of the highest quality and painstakingly turn hops and malts into flavorful brew. With each style, we aim to create our own take on classic styles – all without added preservatives or chemicals.

While our brewery is also considered a microbrewery (which means we’re not producing mass quantities of beer – yet!), we approach making beer as a fine craft. Each recipe is a unique creation, and if you get a chance to take part in our special cask nights – the recipe may even be a once-in-a-lifetime flavor! Our beers can be found in various establishments all over the Emerald Coast including Pensacola, Ft. Walton, Destin, 30A, Panama City Beach, Apalachicola and Alabama.

DESHI Modern Nail + Skin Care We are Pensacola’s first nontoxic salon specializing in Manicures, Pedicures, Facials, and Makeup. August marks our one year since our doors have been open here at the downtown location but our journey has been a decade in the making. The whole goal of what we wanted to do was to educate people on how they
can take care of themselves and still have the things they want. Everything that we carry in our stores is
carefully selected to not only be a healthier alternative to the products carried at most other salons, but to also be a treatment that will last long after the service is

American Magic Story and photos by Stan Morse A sailboat like no other is ripping up Pensacola Bay “The Mule” is a thirty eight foot test platform for New York Yacht Club’s American Cup Team. By flying above the water on hydrofoils this one of a kind carbon fiber boat can reach speeds over 50 mph. It is a half scale model of the AC 75 boats that will be used in Auckland, New Zealand during the 2021 America’s Cup. This is the realm of the ultra wealthy. Fielding a team costs north of $100 million, there is no prize money and the winning team has the privilege of coming up with another fortune to defend their title.
Plaza De Luna 900 S Palafox St Pensacola, FL 32502 30°24’09.7”N 87°12’47.2”W
Back in November of 2018 the team set up a training base at the Port of Pensacola just across from Plaza de Luna at the south end of Palafox Street. The whole thing was sort of hush hush. They wanted to keep their secrets from the competition but now the word is out. Although there is no published schedule for when they sail, if the wind is up there is a very good chance that from Plaza de Luna you will see them rigging up and launching “The Mule.” If you notice people with foreign accents and telephoto lenses you have come across spies from the other teams. They have come to watch and learn what they can. In the sailing world this is a very big deal. Once it’s in the water “The Mule,” escorted by chase boats, does laps around the bay while engineers ashore analyze a stream of performance data. If you see its black silhouette off in the distance, spend a few minutes to enjoy the view. Take a walk out on the jetty and check out the yachts in the marina. It will not be long before “The Mule” comes flying by again. Maybe slip a couple of quarters into one of the public telescopes and get a closer look. It really is something to see!
