SAFETY
RIP CURRENTS
Rip currents can be hazardous to even the strongest swimmers who are caught in a rip and who do not understand what is going on, and who may not have the necessary water skills, may panic, or exhaust themselves by trying to swim directly against the flow of water. If caught in a rip current, DO NOT PANIC! To escape a rip current – swim parallel to the shore, do not try to swim against the current. If the current is too strong, let it carry you farther away from shore. It will eventually weaken. Then swim back to shore at an angle away from the current.
BEACH WARNING FLAGS
DOUBLE RED: Water Closed
RED: High hazard, high surf and/or strong currents
YELLOW: Medium hazard, moderate surf and/or currents
GREEN: Low hazard, calm conditions, exercise caution
PURPLE: Dangerous marine life

Michael were hooked. They decided to open a casual atmosphere restaurant where people and families could come get some delicious food after a long day at the beach.
Frisky Dolphin Sunset Oyster Bar & Grill
Owners Kevin Hausfeld and Michael Hall had been mulling over the idea of opening a bar and restaurant for many years. At first they were looking in the downtown area, but that changed when they met Greg Gordon who owns Sabine Marina. Greg Gordon owned the building at Sabine Marina with a huge deck that overlooks Little Sabine Bay and boasts some of the best sunsets in the area. After viewing this sunset, Kevin and
Friskey Dolphin specialize in seafood such as Oysters - raw, steamed, baked and fried, along with Crab, Shrimp and local Redfish menu items, but also have many other items for people who may not like seafood such as Nachos, Chicken Tenders, the Island’s best Philly Cheese Steak. The owners decided from the beginning to procure ingredients a level above what most restaurants serve. It costs the owners more, but the Frisky
Dolphin’s customers say it is definitely worth it. The Frisky Dolphin has live entertainment Friday – Sunday and serves the Island’s Best Breakfast on the weekends with $2.50 Bloody Marys and Mimosas. Come enjoy the Frisky Dolphin! LISTEN
Monte Tredway
of The Modern Eldorados & The Full Monte
What band/bands are you currently playing with? I’m proud to say I’ve been playing with the renowned Gretsch Lyles and the Modern Eldorados for over twenty years now. I’m also playing with some fantastic musicians in “The Full Monte” band. And I’ll sit in with anyone who’ll have me!
When and where did you start playing music? I started playing when I was 11 or 12 years old. My mom bought me “A Hard Day’s Night” album which just mesmerized me. I played acoustic guitar in duos through college, but really got my feet wet with Lazy Day and the Richard Liveakos crew in 1983-94. What is your favorite style/genre to play? My favorite genre at present is
what the Nashville folks call “Old Country”. I especially like an up tempo shuffle! Any recordings / TV spots that you have done? Recordings that I’m on are few and far between. I am proud of some of the things I’ve done with Gretsch. We also did a couple of WSRE TV music shows. What is a website or online source where people could watch or listen to you? My wife posts things on a “Full Monte” Facebook page, but if you want to have some fun come see The Modern Eldorados anywhere and The Full Monte on the 2nd and 4th Sunday afternoons from 4-8pm at Paddy O’Leary’s Irish Pub on Pensacola Beach! We’ll save you a seat!
The Full Monte can be heard at Paddy O’Leary’s on Pensacola Beach every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month from 4pm-8pm. The Modern Eldorados can be heard at Paddy’s on Nov 10th here

Gulf Coast Locals When did you first open and who are the owners? We started playing around with this idea back in 2015, but really got our start in the Spring of 2016. The owners are Kasi and Ashton Calvin, a husband-wife team. We both have graphic design background, and a deep love for the city of Pensacola. How did you get into the business? Both of us have worked for small businesses pretty much our entire adult lives, and have always loved the idea of buying local. The problem is, not a lot of people think or know about up and coming local businesses. We both know a lot of people from different areas, age groups, and lifestyles, so we figured we could help promote small businesses here in town. We have also enjoyed seeing the
progress the city has made over the past few years, and want to be an active part of that. We created a “Local” brand based off of the pelican statues around Pensacola, and people loved it. The brand lets people know who we are, and finances the operation, but our ultimate goal is promoting and consulting and working with small businesses here in town. Where did you get the inspiration for your store? Pelicans have become a symbolic sort of mascot for Pensacola, so we wanted to incorporate that with our own design. And of course, everyone loves being a “Local” and is proud to represent that. Therefore, Gulf Coast Locals was born. What are your future goals?

We would like to eventually have a whole group of Local merchants to work with. We would like to consult, market, promote, and partner with entrepreneurs to make the city a better place. Any time we can get out and interact with the public is great, and we hope to eventually start doing more work with nonprofits, especially in the realm of preparing our children for the future. This includes teaching them beach etiquette (see our children’s book - Penny Saves the Day), kindness, and also just early childhood education in general. After all, today’s children are the future of this planet and this city. What makes your store stand out among other? We are an online based store, but do pop up events throughout
here
the year. We work with Orileys Irish Pub downtown and Captn funs on Pensacola beach and set up our booth and sell our merchandise. We are also excited to offer custom jobs, be it a special designed local shirt, work uniforms, or just outfitting a bachelorette party. What are your favorite specials? We got our big start last year when we released a blue angels themed blue and gold Local shirt. We sold out several times, with a final total of about 250 shirts. That was amazing. We have a new Blue Angel edition shirt this year, and hope that it will be a big hit also. We also have a permanent special online of adding a “dealers choice” shirt to any order for just $10, and you also get a free sticker or koozie with any purchase!

Fort Pickens Pensacola Beach
Fort Pickens is a pentagonal historic United States military fort on Santa Rosa Island in the Pensacola, Florida, area. It is named after American Revolutionary War hero Andrew Pickens. The fort was completed in 1834 and remained in use until 1947. Fort Pickens is included within the Gulf Islands National Seashore, and as such, is administered by the National Park Service. After the War of 1812, the United States decided to fortify all of its major ports. French engineer Simon Bernard was appointed to design Fort Pickens. Construction lasted from 1829 to 1834, with 21.5 million bricks being used to build it.
Fort Pickens was the largest of a group of fortifications designed to defend Pensacola Harbor. It supplemented Fort Barrancas, Fort McRee, and the Navy Yard. Located at the western tip of Santa Rosa Island, just offshore from the mainland, Fort Pickens guarded the island and the entrance to the harbor. Fort Pickens and offers many recreation opportunities for visitors to enjoy including fishing, swimming, hiking, biking, birdwatching, picnicking, camping, historic structure tours, and ranger-led programs. Visitors must pay an entrance fee to enter the Gulf Islands National Seashore where Fort Pickens is located.
