Sí, México produce y consume joyas de manera relevante.

Basta decir que durante años ha mantenido su lugar como el primer productor de plata a nivel mundial y que entre sus propuestas también se encuentran marcas con diseños que gritan vanguardia absoluta.

Cámara de Joyería Jalisco es el organismo que en México representa a la industria joyera nacional y opera para su correcto desarrollo. Entre las propuestas de esta institución se encuentra el Centro de Diseño de Joyería, el altamente capacitado Laboratorio de Metales, el cual es certificado por la EMA (Entidad Mexicana de Acreditación), e iniciativas como Grupo de Calidad, el único programa de autorregulación en México que trabaja en el reconocimiento de empresas que ofrecen garantía de calidad en kilataje.

Esta industria reafirma su relevancia en tierra mexicana, pues JOYA, la exposición de joyería más grande de América Latina, realiza ediciones en lugares como la Ciudad de México y Guadalajara, Jalisco, en donde existen 16 centros joyeros que agrupan 1,500 puntos de venta.

La calidad de la joyería mexicana está presente en diferentes partes del mundo, pues se exporta a más de 30 naciones, entre las que se encuentra Estados Unidos, Canadá, Reino Unido, Suiza, Australia, Italia y Emiratos Árabes Unidos.

AMONG ALL THE TREASURES OF THE COUNTRY, THERE IS AN EXCITING JEWELRY INDUS TRY

It is commonly said that Mexico tastes like tequila and that its musical soul belongs to the mariachi, which is true.

Nonetheless, we cannot forget the great love this country has for jewelry.

It is also true that Mexico produces and consumes jewelry in a significant way. A prove of this is the fact that for many years Mexico has maintained its place as the world’s leading producer of silver and among several innovations the country offers, there are also brands with particular designs at the vanguard.

Chamber of Jewelry Jalisco is the organization that represents the national jewelry industry of Mexico and works for its positive development. Among the different proposals the institution provides there is the Centro de Diseño de Joyería (jewelry design center), the high-qualified Laboratorio de Metales (metal laboratory) certified by the Mexican Accreditation Entity (EMA by its Spanish acronym), and some initiatives like Grupo de Calidad (quality group), the only self-regulation program in Mexico that works for the acknowledgment of enterprises that provide carat guaranty.

l adentrarse a los libros de historia o a las crónicas de los conquistadores de América, la imaginación llega con determinación. ¿Cómo fue el esplendor del alguna vez llamado Nuevo Mundo? Quizá el oro precolombino sea la prueba más cercana a ese brillante pasado.

Llamado así por tratarse de algo previo a los descubrimientos de Cristóbal Colón, el oro precolombino hace referencia al sorprendente arte orfebre en manos de las culturas de aquel tiempo.

En México y otros países del continente como Colombia, Costa Rica, entre otros, estas bellezas ornamentales dejaron clara la valoración que se le daba a dicho metal precioso.

Además, el oro también fue considerado como un hermoso símbolo relacionado al sol.

A pesar del paso del tiempo y del inevitable saqueo que los conquistadores de América realizaron hasta cansarse del metal dorado, los vestigios del oro precolombino hoy afirman la gran riqueza cultural de nuestros antepasados.

ur imagination is kindled when we dive into the history books or the chronicles that tell us about the conquerors of America. How was the splendor of the so-called New World? Perhaps the pre-Columbian gold is the closest proof of this magnificent past.

It is known as pre-Columbian gold due to the fact that is was something that had already existed before Christopher Columbus set foot on the continent. Pre-Columbian gold makes reference to the different forms of art created by the cultures at that time.

In Mexico and other countries of the American continent such as Colombia and Costa Rica, among others, these ornamental arts show clear evidence of how much many cultures appreciated this precious metal. Made up with special care and detail, there are pieces such as bracelets, breastplates, sculptures, and objects that were undoubtedly used in special ceremonies and those of religious nature.

Mostly used by the novelty, gold was highly valued by the Aztec culture to create stunning jewelry items. In fact, they used to consider the origin of gold as something divine, so it is not strange that they called it coztic teocuitlatl, which means ‘waste from the gods’. In addition to this, gold was also considered as a precious symbol related to the sun.

Despite the passing of time and the inevitable fact that the conquerors of America had stolen the golden metal, the vestiges that remained of the pre-Columbian gold today confirm the great cultural wealth of our antecessors.

Because of their uniqueness, our ancestors used them for different purposes: to offer tribute to their deities, for commercial activities, artistic expressions, and decorative items.

Nowadays, these precious stones have a strong presence in the world of jewelry. Nevertheless, only few of them have become particularly special in the region.

According to the book Gemstones of the World written by professor Walter Schumann, in Mexico some of these stones stand out; such is the case of agate, quartz, topaz, turquoise, and of course, opal.

Back in the days when the Aztec empire flourished, opal was known as the ‘hummingbird stone’ because its shine was similar to the colors of the plumage of this bird they used to worship. Today opal can be found in some states of the country, mostly in Queretaro, Jalisco, Nayarit, and Guanajuato.

It is important to mention that Mexican opal outstands from opal of other nations due to a particular feature: its multiple colors. We can find this stone in different tones that run the range from red to other colors as orange, yellow, green, white, blue, and more.

Esta artista plástica da nombre a su propia marca, un proyecto que surgió en 2014 y mezcla elementos clásicos con detalles étnicos en cada joya, todas pensadas para mujeres activas que desean sentirse únicas.

Los espectaculares diseños de Cristina Fernández son elaborados con plata 9.50, oro de 14 kilates y piedras como lapislázuli, perla, amatista, peridoto, ónix negro y ojo de tigre, entre otros materiales.
