Background_

" Our attention has limit." 「 在這資訊量爆炸的時代,我們的注意力是有限的。」

Our brain become a mess as we receive too much information.

不 停 地 在 大 量 的 資 訊 中 轉 換, 使 我 們 容 易 感 到 疲 倦, 專 注 力、 生 產 力、 心 理 情 緒 與 感 受 也 更 輕 易 受 到 影 響。 用 科 技 解 決 一 切 的 數 位 時 代, 造 成 用 科 技 卻 難 以 解 決 的 問 題, 而 產 品 設 計 應 該 如 何 創 新, 讓 人 產 生 共 感, 以 有 別 以 往的角色融入生活。

Therefore, we surveyed products featured in concentration, stress-relieving, calmness, reset, and the related documents.

The ART (Attention Resorative Theory) in restorative environment research field has addressed 4 relationship qualities for human interactions and natural environments, which the restorative experience could be effective in countering the DAF (Directed Attention Fatique).

" Depletion of this central executive mechanism can result in directed attentionalfatigue (DaF). ART predicts that environments can counter DAF when the human-environment relationship is characterised by four qualities: fascination or the capacity of an environment to automatically draw attention without cognitive effort, a sense of extent or connectedness, being away from daily hassles and obligations, and a compatibility between the individual’s inclinations and the characteristic of the environment. Based on the 4 characteristics in ART, we analyzed the previous surveys and came into some principles for restorative product design.

Based on the principles, we generated 28 ideas, and intergrated 3 restorative design methods.

我們希望透過産品作為一個載 體, 提 供 可 持 續 探 索 的 體 驗 , 讓 人能透過與産品的互動,給予頭 腦沉靜、 重 整 的 效 果 。

The product we would like to create is to provide a continue exploration experience, which would give people the calmness in brain through the interaction with product.

「 砂可處於動態或靜態之間, 反覆成形。」

" Sand can stay dynamic and still at the same time."

我們發現砂平衡的物理性質,得以操作一個具 沉浸效果的短暫時間,讓我們決定以細砂下陷 所産生自然流動,作為設計要表現的主體。 We found the physical characteristics and accumulable feature of sand can easily illustrate the uncontrollable and non-replicable qualities. Thus, we decided to use this natural flow as our main expression of design.

Product Development_ Begin Stage

After the mechanism was designed, we dealt with the modeling and CMF design. To make the working prototype, we visited to different kinds of factories and learned how to build a product from scratch. As for presentation, we made a concept film to express our design too.

Sphère The lamp to make space for brain.

Product Introduction_ In nature, a recirculation system from the steady-state would create the simultaneous focus on it, which brings the core value of our product. With Sphère- Interaction Residential Lamp, people can have a short pause or switch from work by turning on the lamp.

自 然 中 的 顆 粒 物 質 有 一 種 特 性 , 反覆打破 穩定再重新回到平衡狀態的過程中,會讓 人不由自主地停下來,將視線放在上面。

在 這 概 念 中 我 們 希 望 能 以 Sphère 形 型 互 動 立 燈, 藉 著 人 與 燈 的 互 動創造短暫的 視覺停留,讓頭腦重整思緒。

A Restoration Experience begins, ... As the lampshade starts to rotate, the sand would begin to sink, fall and pile up. A ceaselessly-changing movement extends the product interaction, the casting light on the piled-up hills gives an intriguing scene as well. Sphère 隨著燈罩的轉動,沙會隨之崩解、落下而堆積成型,而這樣的動態 效果延長了人與立燈的互動,因為互動所形成的沙丘,在燈光映照下形成 的光影景致也增添立燈營造的氛圍。

Product Feature_ Interaction Design The mechanism desgin for Sphère was combined with the lighting soft-starter and the initiator of sand movement. The two linked operations were triggered by the interaction of Sphère and the user. Sphère 的作動是緩啓動開關與旋轉軌道機構的結合,讓互動産生彼此連動的兩種效果。

Lighting Design We chose NICHIA incandescent light bulb (2700K, Neutral White)with 25W/110V as the main lighting source. The bulb was designed to tilt at 145 degrees to create the contrast shade on the piled-up hills. 燈源選擇的是暖白色調的日亞牌白熾燈泡,規格為 25W/110V。為了呈現最佳的光影對比,我們 將燈源的照射角度調整為 145 的傾角。

Concept Film

Presentation Film _ Process of Film making What we want to value is the atmosphere that Sphère creates, which would be affected by objects from real scene, light conditions and the expression of actor. To make the film more immersive, we shot handheldly as objective veiwpoint to take audience "into" the scene. We also made eye-level shot from different angle to make film more vivid and some close-ups to present product details. 我們很重視它帶給人的氛圍,所以攝影實景的準備、光線條件設置與演員動作安排很關鍵。 為了讓觀者更沉浸,我們以旁觀視角將觀眾帶入,以不同角度與遠近景的轉換使畫面更生動, 並以極、中特寫鏡頭強調産品細節、呈現演員表情與動作的變化。


Reflection_ 動手做,就是想法突破的時候 Remember the time our minds got stuck, and are too afraid to make decisions. We abandoned worries and went to children playground to touch and play with actual sand. There appeared a moment we would never thought of before if we did not visit the place. A relief of sand particles meaned everything to both of us. And the ideas started to explode our brains. 設計師如何與工程師合作無間 The slow-start effect circuit was the main electrical technique for lamp. During the cooperation period, I need to reach a certain understanding of the existing technology and considerate the feasibility and conceptuality. Every engineer has a certain procedure and logic, that's why designer should have a more conceptual view of product to fulfill materialization or extensibility. 製程上的經驗學習 Every component of lamp was produced by factories and assemblied by ourselves. We kept observed problems such as the uneven light shade, not enough screw holes. Thanks to those who were willing to help us and teach us some material limitations or manufactural concerns. Sphère was not possible to complete without them.

Miniable variable prototype test the hypothesis.

Noise Reduction from Source The test showed the attached fan can only add on to noise as it created the turbulent inside. We changed the separated fan system to the opposite direction ; at the same time, maintained the enough heat release.

The turbulent was generated as the cold air entered, which would hit the warm air inside and create the high-pitch noise.

Smooth Taste with Less Bubbles Too many bubbles could lead to the poor smoothness of drinks, the slopes

Experiment Method :

Applied 3 different slopes to see the sizes of bubbles after operating with max speed.

Use flour-water mix to simulate food mixture.

Applied 20mm, 10mm, 5mm clay ball with

different width blades, to get the pieces of particle.

TEST RESAULT : Clay balls did not be fully broken up by wider blade, which means we can use

reverse direction to hold some particles Blades for trials.

The blender can bring us the ability to live a healthy life. We focused on the features of the high speed blender which is noise canceling, taste enhancement and smooth usability. We have completed this minimalist style blender through the color segmentation to reduce the cumbersome of the fuselarge. Therefore, it creates the balance between the blender’s usability and aesthetic.

Smooth Taste Magic 正反轉刀片與導流設計 With the 360 dimension spoiler, the number of bubble decreases, which makes the drinks smoother. But when you still want some flavor of solid food residue, the reversed knife can break the food with wider face and keep some ungrinded particles.

As we emphasized the refinement of blender from various aspects, we removed the frightening noise, brought smoothness and diversity to food taste, made it harmonized in any places. Above all, the only purpose was to create a good experience to users !

Product Operation The beutiful blender is soaking into our life. We focused on the features of the portable blender which is portability and easy to use.

Reflection_ 精實產品研發也是有缺點的?

The Lean Product Development is a compact design method to evaluate and make the nessary decisions, which is a good way for company to reposition their original product and make it stand out from the other competitors. But this method still exists some shortcomings, such as the well-organized procedure may lead to a stubborn mindset and inelastic design time point; the miniable variable and cost-saving test may of no effect as the experiment is not accurate enough.

# MATERIAL & FINISH As different syllables present the sense of class, we choose different types of wood to array in a gradiental order. 利用木頭深淺漸層的材質質感,表達音由低到高的音階。


Product Making & Concept Film We use the cutting slots to make wood different pitched sound, just like how the Xylophone works. 利用切出分隔的狹縫,分出因不同長度呈現高低音調的效果,同 時維持砧板相同寬度。

We dyed the cutting board according to the pitch, which makes user feel playful and enjoy the sound during cooking.

Reflection_ 利用木頭材質特性,產生物理不同音調高低而非電子音樂效果, 是我最喜歡這個產品的原因。

At first we could only think about the electrical music to arouse the auditory stimulation, it was not easy to reach the concept of xylophone and chopping board. With the natural relationship between wood length and sound percussion, we were able to make the food preparation more enjoyable and musical.

WHAT ? Bamboo is the main recyclable material we want to compose the chair, so we need to know what different shapes it can achieve !

Due to the features of bamboo material, we found that most bamboo chairs and furnitures were tough, stiff and almost square-like.

HOW ? Thanks to every professionals we have consulted, we were able to process the chair with different method included :

Firing, Bending, Chopping, Tearing, and Weaving. 我們運用了燒製、火烤彎管、劈竹、刨削、編織收邊等加工方法製作。

To form the core frame -

Find a proper bamboo with only 1 joint.

Dissect 8 sections.

Heat and bend it to designed angle.

Cut and open it a half, then a half, then a half, then a half, ...until each of it is about 2mm thick, and you need to prepare almost 500 of this thin bamboo. 其中最繁複的工作,就是將竹子反覆刨削成適合編織的厚度及寬度,數量要將近 500條細竹條才足以編織成椅身。

Reflection_

體驗工藝產品從無到有的過程,很難得的經驗!

但過程中手工處理耗時許久,卻疏忽了產品身處的系統設計。

Due to the unfamiliarity of bamboo material, we were not confident to give the accurate chair design drawings to the bamboo handcrafters, so we chose to try by ourselves. To make one bamboo chair took us a lot of time and efforts to learn the traditional techniques in less than 3 months. Although we acquired the craft skills and learned many knowledges of bamboo, it was a pity that we overlooked some of the features like product usability, some potential problems, and the concerns that aroused by those who were in the environmental fields.

AC Voltage Detector_ The project redefined the image of non-contact AC voltage detector, featured the shape of aircraft and the transparent case. (alteration from the intern project) 這是一支以飛行器流線造型、部分穿透機殼為主 調的_非接觸式交流驗電筆,由實習所經手專案, 重新修改並以不同角度效果渲染。

Carbon Fiber Phonecase_ The project was inspired from Render Weekly, which featured the imitation surface of carbon fiber texture. 這個專案是從大二上的設計課所製作的手機附屬 殼,再以線上自學資源 Render Weekly為基礎,於 模型表面上渲染碳纖維的材質質感。

Nasa Capsule_ The project was created from the Rhino, and rendered by Keyshot, which added labels of NASA logo and American flag. 利用軟體Rhino練習建模,再貼上NASA跟美 國國旗的標籤貼圖,渲染太空站的場景。
