Best GoPro Spring Break Accessories

Fat Gecko Kaboom Courtesy of www.reviews.cnet.com

Essentially the Kaboom is a pole that can be either handheld or attached by a couple of sticky pads to a bike helmet (for example), enabling new and interesting shooting angles.

The advent of the GoPro has brought about a

real surge in adventure and sports photography and videos. Suddenly amateurs have been able to capture some of their pro-level tricks and treks and share them with their friends and the Internet. While some people tend to look down on amateurlevel photography, I think most would agree that at least this avenue has actually made things far more exciting. What has made this instance so different? Well, while some are satisfied simply strapping their GoPro to their head and jumping on a mountain bike (exciting in and of itself) others have found some more inventive ways of utilizing their camera.

give you a perspective of your surroundings few will ever see — at least until you share it on YouTube. Attach it to Sports Equipment or Toys Instead of attaching it to your bike helmet, strap it to your hockey stick while you play a game of hockey, or better yet, strap it to the puck. Don’t play hockey? Try using a sword. Don’t have a sword? Well maybe you should re-evaluate what you’re doing with your life then.

Because let’s be honest, if all you’re doing is capturing your latest attempt at a snowboard trick or your weekend water filled expedition, you’re really only exploiting about 60% of its power and versatility. So heres some ideas what else we can stick it to. Especially on spring break!

Attach it to an Animal Ever wanted to live a day in the life of your pet? Seeing the sheer unfettered joy of running through the yard at knee level — that could be fun. Na, you should let an animal steal it. Bonus points if you let an animal eat it or almost better yet are able to capture your friend getting tackled by an animal. All that said, please be humane. If your animal looks like it’s in pain or unhappy, take it off, no video is worth hurting your pet.

Send it Flying Plenty of people have increased their GoPro’s armor, flown it up on a balloon, and let it drop. Getting a projectile’s POV can be incredibly interesting and will

You should attach your camera to ANYTHING that moves! Seriously, it’s a pretty resilient camera. Don’t let yourself be limited by the mounts or attachments you have either, that’s why God gave man duct tape!

Jaws flex clamp

This flexible mount enables you to attach a GoPro quickly and easily to almost anything you can clamp. What sets the Jaws apart is that it clamps without the need for the usual bolts and sticky pads used with other mounts.

DJI Phantom

This is a lightweight craft with a GoPro mount on its underbelly that cuts out the need to jump from a plane to get impressive aerial footage. Controlled remotely, the quadcopter takes a bit of practice to fly well, but is easy to learn and a ton of fun for even beginners or extremely drunk people. | FL411 MARCH 2014 7

FITNESS HOW TO

STAY FIT

ON SPRING BREAK

bartenders often put in these drinks, alcohol can be very high in calories. Pick and choose your time for a mixed drink; view it as a treat, like dessert.

by George Guerrin Finally, it’s spring break! Many of you are planning trips to exotic destinations, looking to hit the beach, and have some fun! Vacation should be a time to spend with family and friends, and relax. Yet it doesn’t mean that you have to gain weight either. Below are tips to help you stay on track with your fitness while enjoying your time away. Eat Fresh While on vacation it can be so easy to grab what’s quick, including fast food and snacks high in calories. But if you are going away for spring break try and eat as fresh as possible. Perhaps the locals have a favorite dish that is fresh and unique! Or take the time to splurge and get lobster or a salmon steak. Have your food grilled instead of fried, it will taste so much better! Don’t Drink Your Calories! Who doesn’t love a pina colada or strawberry daiquiri while on vacation? Yet alcohol has 7kcal per gram, whereas carbohydrates and protein have only 4. So in addition to the corn syrup and other sweetener’s 8

MARCH 2014

Join a Beach Bootcamp With the weather getting warmer some people prefer to enjoy the sunshine and exercise outside. Sometimes trainers can be found outside with individual clients or a group of people. Beach bootcamps can be great. The sand is easy on the joints, and the sight of the waves relaxing. Look up bootcamps online for your destination, and plan to go a few times while you are there. I know that the least thing you want to do when fighting a hangover is a boot camp, but trust us...your going to feel amazing! Use the Gym So many resorts and cruise ships offer free usage of gyms with state of the art equipment. Some even have personal trainers and exercise classes to keep you motivated and having fun while on your vacation. Consider scheduling a spa visit following your workout for the sauna and a massage. Afterwards you will feel great! Do Something While You Relax Now this topic may seem a little counterproductive since your supposed to be relaxing at the beach. But if you want to still be a part of the party and soak up the sun while you use it as a way to stay in shape...then follow this suggestion! While your out there, just pick up a football, soccer ball, volleyball, just anything you can use to throw around and run after. Trust me, you

CLEARWATER BEACH This is your guide for the 6 people you need to know RIGHT NOW 1. Bay Area Nightlife Staffing and Security FL411: How long has Bay Area Night Life Staffing been around town and who are your clients?

BANLS: We have been in business for 6 months with 15 years experience in the industry. We work with anyone in the nightlife industry such as club/bar owners, concert venues and any who need security for private parties or personal protection. Some of our well known clients are celebrities such as Hulk Hogan, Jimmy Hart,Bruce Willis, Dirty Heads, Mike Tyson, Michael Jordan, Lil Wayne, Afrojack and many, many more FL411: When did you know that providing security and protection would turn into a business for you? BANLS: My father was such a big role model for me growing up and him being an officer in the San Diego Police Department. I was impressed with his work ethic and wanted to carry on the same tradition. The knowledge and inspiration he gave me, provided the my drive to succeed and start up my own company and soon I partnered up with Demetrius Sanders, Stefano Pantapas and Don Gammil.

NIGHT

FL411: What do you love most about Clearwater?

BANLS: The things I love most about Clearwater and The Bay Area are the beautiful beaches. I can not get enough. The difference between working here and other places where I have worked before, is the simple fact that the views are out of this world and the people are amazing. FL411: Clearwater Beach is known to have a few celebrities and well-known people come to the beaches ...Any interesting stories you can share? BANLS: The most interesting story I have about this job so far, has to be about Hulk Hogan. I stared working for him and could not grasp how once I was watching him on WWE. He was my childhood icon and NOW I am now protecting him! The feeling is still indescribable to this day! FL411: Well if you protect Hulk Hogan I think it is fair to say we could all use a little of your security service! Where can our readers find out more about your services? BANLS: www.bayareanightlifestaffing.com, Facebook, Instagram and twitter. We can also be found on the Clearwater strip daily working with clients such as Hogan’s Beach, Brown Boxer, Toucans, Sheppard’s and many more! When you visit our site go ahead and contact Demetrius Sanders at anytime for any questions, comments and pricing.

FL411: We know why people love to have fun in Clearwater beach and taking on the task to protect people and ensure everyone has a good time is quite a responsibility. What type of challenges do you face?

3. Cabana Boy Brandon DAY

FL411: So Cabana Boy Brandon, How did running local tours happen for you? CBB: After learning the Clearwater Beach area and gaining enough knowledge about what tourists like to explore. My work ethic and love to be around people is what drives me everyday. FL411: What is your favorite moment of the day? CBB: My favorite moment in the day is to greeting and meeting people then seeing the smiles. FL411: What tours do your run? CBB: My favorites we do are; Tropics Boat Tours (dolphin sighting),Sunset Tours, and Booze Cruise and the Hurricane Pass Tour that runs on Caladesi Island and Honeymoon Island. FL411: How do people get in touch with you?

BANLS: We decided that Clearwater and the surrounding Bay Areas were the best place for us to start up business, just because there are so many opportunities out here. The only challenge we have had so far in this industry is finding No challenge. I feel so blessed to be able to have this opportunity to work with beautiful views and beautiful people.

CBB: Visit my website: CabanaboyBrandon.com for special promotions and discounts.

2. The Party Cab FL411: How long has The Party Cab been around town? Party Cab: 9 years. New year eve of 2014 I got a call from Jack and his wife (owner of Slyce Pizza) around 11:30 pm, so I told him “It’s gonna be midnight by the time I get there”. He insisted that I pick him up. By the time I got there it was around 11:50 and they come rushing to the car and said to me drive now, I said, “Why it’s almost midnight (New Years Eve), don’t you wanna stay in your restaurant? “. He told me to just to drive. So I drove away from Slyce. He and his wife looked at me and said, “Me and my wife, we talked about it, and both agreed that there is no other place we wanna be in the world but to be in The Party Cab with you and the Disco ball, that’s why we called you now at midnight! “ FL411: What a great story! But what about the other 99% of cab dwellers.. How do you do it? PC: I LOVE PEOPLE TOO MUCH. Most importantly, just knowing the risks people take drinking and driving. Also to show people that taking a cab can be fun AND responsible.

PC: OH WOW! They are so many: The great, the sad, the crazy, the funny, and the happy. But I keep it confidential!

DAY

FL411: How long have you had your travel agency, ALREADY GONE? AGT: I have been in business since 1989. I started with booking large groups every year to ski location in Colorado and Vermont. Vacation included renting large homes on the ski slopes and having the vacations all inclusive. Every single detail was taken care of and clients loved it. This great service turned into more referrals and more bookings. I have been booking destination travel to places all over the world and for many years. In a very short time. I knew I had a gift of great service and travel knowledge that Clients loved.

FL411: So what is the 411 on the people you have worked with.. I am sure it is a long list: WRP:I work with alot of artists such as George Acosta, Jump smokers, dj skribble, manufactured superstars, Jason derulo, Nikki Williams...just to name a few but you get the idea. FL411:What are some challenges you face/.. Promotions and DJ scene is competitive how do you stay ahead? WRP:24/7 of Keeping fresh themes to keep the crowd engaged- I love watching everyone have the time of there life. No better feeling than seeing an energetic crowd all with smiles on their face to something you created. FL411: What is the most interesting story that has happened on the job or with a client that you could share? WRP: By booking an artist by the name George Acosta so many times and becoming good friends I ended up being a booking agent for his record label so good music. This has led us into hosting events in the famous south beach Miami at venues like The Clevelander, The Viceroy & more. The door that opened for me after years of hard work is the most amazing story I can think of! Additional info:

5. ALREADY GONE

FL411: What was your inspiration- How did you know that this was this business you wanted to start? AGT: I always knew I wanted to be in the travel industry. I love to travel and wanted other people to have those same experiences. Travel opens many doors and exposes us to many different life cultures and world experiences. The best way to do that is to start your own business and travel the world with your clients as a tour conductor and guide. This made it even more special because I had already built a trust relationship with my clients and they know that if I am going they would want to go too. FL411: Tell why you have your business in Clearwater Beach? AGT: I want to tell you I have traveled the world but Clearwater Beach is a great and special destination. Pier 60 Regional Chamber Visitor Center is a wealth of

information at # 1 Causeway Blvd for the newly arrived visitors. They have all the information for where to eat, what to see, and what to do. Sunsets at PIER 60 on the beach are not to be missed. The Sunsets here are as if the sun is melting into the beautiful waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Clearwater Beach has wonderful restaurants. Grouper sandwich is one my favorite.

FL411: What is the biggest challenge you face in the travel industry today? AGT: The challenge in the tourist industry today is that clients have so many options with information and internet options they do not know which direction to go. A travel agent is a professional that saves you time and money. Deborah Christofferson Already Gone Travel / Trips INC. Clearwater Office 719 393 3283 Colorado office 719 488 8100

IT’S OYSTER SEASON IN DOWNTOWN ST. PETE By Jordan Oliver Very rarely is a restaurant as superbly well

rounded as The Oyster Bar on Central Avenue in downtown St. Pete. As the name suggests, you won’t find better oysters anywhere. The Oyster Bar takes pride in the various ways they dish out these shelled favorites… and for good reason. The menu is kicked off with an impressive variety of fresh, cooked to order Oyster offerings. Rockefeller, Parmesan-Herb Crusted, and Cajun are some highlights. The beauty of the shockingly large variety is not only how much fun they are to share and savor, but in knowing there is always something worth returning for. The pearl of Central Avenue is the perfect place to settle in for lunch or dinner, kick off or finish your night. The classy bar stirs with finely tuned libations of all kinds and a distinguished selection of wine. Be sure not to pass up the chance to sample one of their famous Oyster Shooters. Grab a table outside and take in the catching energy teaming all around in the heart of the best strip in St. Pete. There is a relaxed yet sophisticated feel here that manages to enchant diners. The culinary perfection of the Oyster Bar extends

well beyond their signature dish. Local Red Grouper, Herb-Seared Yellowfin, and Seared Diver Scallops are a seafood lover’s delight. Their impressive Pinot Noir Braised Duck Leg, choice cut Steaks, and Grilled Vegetable stack are just a couple examples of how the Oyster Bar has taken careful steps to ensure there is something for everyone. In fact, there is nothing on the menu that won’t leave your mouth watering. Creamy Risotto, Lemon Aioli, and Blue Cheese Fondue are just a few of the included ingredients you can expect to come with your choice. The hardest part is choosing, and their friendly and knowledgeable staff is always on hand to guide you with ease to a great pairing. In addition to the excellent food and drinks always delivered at the Oyster Bar, patrons are treated to a great vibe and chic restaurant interior. The brick work inside is all class, and there is not a better place in town for a romantic date night. The Oyster Bar’s design is smart and well thought out. With such care, it comes as no surprise that this is consistently ranked as one of the best spots in town and surely will be for a long time to come.

Keep ‘em Coming

Seasoned bartender and a personality! Our favorite bartender pours a draft in between shucking raw oysters for a packed house. Easily one of the best downtown St. Pete has to offer.

rifts that mellow your mood, and lyrics that rope you in and leave you wanting more. If you are tired of fist pumping the night away while trying to decipher the difference between dub-step and house music, be sure to grab a seat and a drink (or 5) at a Burning Trees show. They have a way with the crowd, and always keep the good vibes rolling with refreshing new beats that makes you sink into your bar stool, and stay for another round. Individually Dave, Mike, Mark, and Frank are highly skilled craftsmen of a lost art, but when they come together in one ensemble it’s like making love to your Great White Buffalo (the one that got away). You definitely don’t want to miss out on their upcoming St. Patty’s Day show at the St. Pete Block Party as it’s sure to put you in the right mood to party the night away as if everyone was a reggaeton leprechaun. Make sure you show Burning Trees some love on your favorite social media site, so you can stay up to date on all of the latest band musings, and find their next show in your backyard. I would try and catch one of their upcoming shows if I were you though, because once their new album drops you may find it difficult to grab a ticket (or a seat) anywhere in the state.

Impulse @ Toasted Gators Monkey By Jordan Oliver

By Jordan Oliver Life seems to go on without effort with the soothing music of bands like Impulse, one of many local greats regularly featured at the Toasted Monkey on St. Pete Beach. Life is good here and it is hard to imagine it any better. The Toasted Monkey is directly on the beach and does a great job of bringing the West Indies Tropical vibe to St. Pete. Any night of the week you will find talented artists setting the mood, playing Caribbean influenced world music, island beats, classic covers of favorites and so much more. Serious local talent lives here; One man band Billy Agans, the Tyson Marshall Duo, and Josh Magwood just to name a few regulars. Where words fail to capture just how perfect it is here, the music succeeds. Live entertainment is featured 7 nights a week with two acts on the weekends. The great sounds are accompanied by a full delicious menu and bar, 25 TVs, a beach deck, and great friendly service. Happy hour starts at 11am and the bands usually stick around through beautiful sunsets until 10pm

Gators boasts a menu just as extensive, colorful and perfect as the place itself. Every day their attentive staff serves up a fresh and mouthwatering variety of classic favorites and original creations. Their lunch specials are constantly evolving and together with the ambiance it’s hard to find anything better. Daily specials and events, and a generous happy hour make it easy to keep coming back. After the sun goes down settle in for a great night of delicious food, Gulf breezes, and live music. Liam does it again with NON-STOP Review by Roger Tennis J-R Enterprises/CLIPS TV series | Film reviews and movie info at www.cinemaclips.com

During a transatlantic flight, alcoholic U.S. Air Marshal Bill Marks (Liam Neeson) receives text messages demanding that $150 million be transferred into an off-shore account or a passenger will be killed every 20 minutes. Against impossible odds, Marks must fight to save lives. “Non-Stop” is a fast-paced and entertaining whodunit. Liam Neeson proves once again that he’s a dominate figure in the action genre. He reunites with director Jaume Collet-Serra (“Unknown”) for this edge-of-yourseat thriller. Most of the film’s 106 minutes takes place aboard the plane - adding a touch of claustrophobia to this high-flying

Along for the ride is a stellar supporting cast that includes Julianne Moore, Scoot McNairy, Michelle Dockery, Nate Parker, Corey Stoll, Linus Roache, Anson Mount and Lupita Nyong’o - who is a Best Supporting Actress contender for her role in “12 Years a Slave”. The list of suspects is pretty much all of the passengers and crew. For mystery movie buffs, this is a tough one to solve. There are a couple of plot holes, but the numerous twists and turns leave no time to think about them. Even the predictable ending doesn’t detract from the fun. Filled with unending thrills, “Non-Stop” is first-class all the way.

someone and make an actual connection? What if there are fireworks other than the ones on the beach? What if you may have met The One? Even more so, what if the feeling is mutual and your fling has fallen for you, too? If you think there is a chance that you are leaving Spring Break with love as your souvenir, here are five ways to keep the romance going after you part ways and head back home to Reality, USA:

Five Ways to Turn a Fling Into a Relationship Over Spring Break

BECAUSE LOVE HAPPENS WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT

Across the country, college students and young adults are partaking in a national pastime known as Spring Break, a week off from studies, work and responsibilities. Groups of guys and girls pile in cars for road trips, book flights to beach destinations or board trains to head for lakes and party towns. The destinations may be different, but the goal is the same, have as much fun as possible in seven days or less. A large number of the party goers

are – or behave as if they are – single. Tan bodies, overindulgence of alcohol and lack of clothing makes most of these locations a hedonistic mecca of temptation. The mentality of “What Happens Over Spring Break, Stays in Spring Break” becomes the motto of the week. Random hookups, one night stands and lip locking marathon fests increase with each ‘Vodka Red Bull’ and body shot poured. But what happens if you meet

Talk or text daily. Keep the good thing going by keeping the lines of communication open. In the morning, send a good morning text – at night, call or video chat to catch up on your day. Make this new person a part of your Top 5 people to talk to daily, or every other day. It will help to eliminate the distance. Plan to reconnect. Chances are if you are the typical student, your budget is pretty maxed out after this trip. But, if you plan properly, you can find a decent priced airfare 21 days out or you two can split the difference and meet somewhere halfway.

Be social. Connect on Facebook, Twitter and other social networks. It opens up your worlds to each other and gives you a better insight to who this person is. Try not to get jealous over pictures or posts. Remember, they had a life before you. You are looking at ways to build a life with them now. Show you care. Mail a “Miss You” card, send a care package or text when his team wins a game. Little gestures can go a very long way. It’s a nice way to express to someone that even though you are apart, you are thinking about them. Keep it sexy. Chances are your spring break romance included some steamy sex or at least heavy petting. Keep that passion going, even at a distance. Avoid sexting at all costs – imagine the consequences if it doesn’t work out. Instead, playful phone sex or flirty texts can keep your libido in neutral until you have a chance to see each other again.

f you’re in the St. Pete Beach area (more specifically around Treasure Island) and are looking for fun in the sun mixed with party time antics and adult beverages, than look no further than Caddy’s on the Beach. This quality gem has been a staple of the Treasure Island area for years, and has a reputation as the best place to grab a drink and relax on the water. This ocean side establishment is a 20 something’s diamond in the rough, and is a great place to start or finish a marathon day on the beach. You’ll definitely be impressed by the surroundings, whether you decide to sit inside the facility or out. The decorative indoor area will allow you to recharge the batteries after hanging in the sun for hours with your friends. It will also give you a different experience than the beach side lounging area does, which is great because when you get tired of your surrounds, you can change them up. The artfully playful décor is usually complemented by a DJ or band of sorts, whom never play a bad piece. This makes the atmosphere at Caddy’s unrivaled in the area, and shows why they’ve been a Treasure Island main stay for so long. One thing is certain you can’t go to Caddy’s on the Beach and have a bad time. Even if you’re in a sour mood heading there, whether due to traffic, or a bad day in general, once you park you’ll be transported to an island paradise that will have you sipping on your favorite drinks under a beachside table or cabana in no time flat! What’s that, oh you’re hungry you say, well Caddy’s has some good news for you: they’ve been long known to have Treasure Island’s best barbeque, so eat up!

BESTBEACHES

You’ll be able to indulge in some delicious down home fixin’s while staring at the scenery and the amazing Gulf of Mexico too. One taste of a Caddy’s BBQ Combo will have you rarin’ to go and reaching for another cold one. If you’re looking for more of a classic meal, try their St. Louis style ribs, which have been voted best on the beach. At Caddy’s, once the food is gone and your stomach has settled it’s time to get back in the game, and grab another round. If you’re feeling a little too full for more beer don’t worry, Caddy’s has thought of everything. They actually offer a full liquor bar to make sure you can get to your hazy paradise whichever way you want. So grab a classic beach cocktail such as a Mai Tai, or even a Margarita for a little Mexican flare and continue to enjoy all that is Caddy’s. Just make sure to tip the staff and you’ll be in your own little slice of heaven until it’s time to retreat back to the real world. If you need a break from the lively action at all corners, just head out for a relaxing walk on the beach to soak in Florida’s pristine coastline, and amazing views of the Gulf. After you decide it’s time to pull a Maverick and reengage, then head straight back to the bar and take advantage of one of the many specials Caddy’s runs throughout the week and weekend. The bottom line is that the bartenders are always cheerful, and the surroundings will have you wondering what time, and day it is after you sink in and let loose. Make sure you have your party hat on when visiting and you’ll love the upbeat tunes coming from every speaker, as well as the culture erupting all around you. This place is truly what a beach bar should be. Don’t let the neighborhood vibe from the road fool you, Caddy’s is like your favorite redneck uncle’s mullet, business in the front, and all party in the back. If you’re down to eat some delicious home style food, pound drinks for days, and dance the night away, I would make Caddy’s on the Beach your next (and possibly only) stop on St. Pete Beach, plain and simple. THE SELLERS MANTRA: Are you trying to sell your home or condo? Do you have a Realtor to assist you? Then here are five things you can do to help your Realtor sell your home for the most money in the least amount of time. 1. CLEAN!

You’ve seen properties that just look and smell clean, this is very attractive to home buyers. Make your home as clean and inviting as possible.

2. DECLUTTER

When your agent suggests you DECLUTTER take them seriously. Loaded counters, cluttered closets, refrigerators hidden under mass photos and magnets are all turn offs to buyers. Make your home more inviting by clearing out the personal items and ‘stuff’. Large closets that are filled to the brim won’t show well even if they provide a lot of extra storage, who can tell? Cabinets that are over flowing make it seem as though there is not enough cabinet space. Counter tops that are covered with small appliances and miscellaneous make it seem there will not be space to cook or work together on meals and entertaining. Make the most of your space even if you have to rent a storage unit for the short term, you will be surprised how nice your home really is!

3. PAINT

Touch up those walls, base boards and doors. While it seems like a small thing just a little touching up will make your home feel newer, cleaner and more inviting. Even a new color if you want to go the extra mile, have your Realtor help you decide and keep it simple.

4. FIX

If there is a torn screen, a broken window, tarnished address numbers outside or a slow drain, fixing it is well worth the time and effort. All systems should work without a hitch and all doors, windows and fixtures should be easy to operate.

5. SHINE

What ever your floors are made of they should be clean, windows sparkling and furniture polished or upholstery cleaned and freshened. Buy new accent pillows, a couch throw and a plug in scent (be careful not to overdo it) that makes your home feel ready for company. Your agent will tell you how much this helps with first impressions.

Of course there are more extreme things you can do, stage the property, move furniture out to make more space and so on but these simple items are easy to do and are very affordable. Visit some open houses on the weekend and observe what others do to make a home more attractive and take note of what turns you off so you can avoid those pitfalls.

TIPS FROM THE PROFESSIONALS

E

veryone knows a Realtor, or two, or three. There are several different types of Realtors. Chances are good that you know may know at least two types. 1 The Go Getter: He or she calls you daily, emails you as often or more and generally makes a nuisance of themselves 2 The Part-time Realtor who works when they have time. Most Realtors are full time and will be there when you need them to assist in your search and acquisition of property. Since the advent of the Internet and all the websites that are available most of the public use their own computers to search for properties and only contact a Realtor when they have found something of interest to them. Websites like Trulia and Zillow are great for information gathering however they are not able to sustain current market availability. What does this mean to you? Well, it may be difficult to tell if a property is still on the market, under contract or sold and most importantly what it really may look like inside and out. Building a relationship with a Realtor is one way to sort through the hundreds of sites offering

Real Estate information. Trulia and Zillow can be great ways to see what is or has been for sale in your area of interest and to evaluate the salability or your home but no one knows homes and properties better than a Realtor in the neighborhood you want to live in. New IDX systems are allowing agents to put search functions on their own websites where you can sign up and save searches directly from the MLS. These new searches enable you to stop hopping from site to site and re-entering your criteria each time you visit the site. You can contact your agent with one click of the mouse while you are looking at a property of interest. Visit my company website, www. IslandEstatesRealty.com to see how easy it is to search the MLS (Multiple Listing Service) and to get the assistance of a full time Realtor that is interested in helping you when you are ready and not pestering you in the meantime. Don’t forget to select Amber Davis as your contact so we can connect!Enjoy the process, stay focused on your real estate goal and your new real estate adventure! See you at the beach! MARCH 2014

WINEAFICIONADO

WINE and WINE NOTS by Gary Metzger - self proclaim Wine Coinsurer and Grape Activist

I always say that wine should be fun. Like buying a home or car .Perhaps you are sipping on a wonderful glass of Pinot Grigio while reading the great feature on Real Estate in the month’s issue of FL411. Or perhaps over the holidays you were given so many bottles of wine as gifts from some very very special (in my opinion) people. Many people are always asking me about wine. They say, Gary, what wine goes with this dinner for my family (the over 21 members of course)? Or, “Gary, I have this smokin’ date and want to impress on my wine knowledge.” Keep in mind for every different wine on the market there are at least five

opinions per each bottle on which is the better wine. However it is gratifying to always exchange ideas and experience with fellow wine enthusiasts. Hopefully, there will be a bit of new knowledge you can take from my article. When FL411 asked to write about wine, my first instinct was to grab a beautiful bottle in my private collection get the computer out, turn on some music and share my knowledge with the masses. I hope you enjoy this as much as I had fun drinking (I mean) writing this feature. Remember everyone, learning just a little will help you enjoy the wine and more important respect the trade, the agriculture and the history of wine.. Everything about wine is personal from the taste on your palette, to the color to the vineyard and now these days even the label. Yes I said it. The branding of wine. It is important because most people are buying wine based on what the label represents. But always remember, The most important decision is what YOU like and what food pairs with the wine. Wines have really taken over and advance in grape growing and wine making have led to very good wines at affordable prices . Wines aged in wood especially the reds will always cost more. For those just starting off with their wine experience good choices would be to find a wine that is off dry or semi sweet. rather than bone dry.. A good example would be Riesling (white and sweet) or Lambrusco (red and robust) Many American wines like Fetzer, Gallo, Taylor,

Italian Swiss Colony, Wolershim, Berringer (found in many restaurants.. distribution is also key to success), Mondovi are all OFF DRY and at a great price point. Sweet wines which can be fortified (brandy added) include: Port, some Sherries, Tokay, Sauterenes and some Ice wines Much taste testing is required until you find the one you like. However these are your wines that you will drink after dinner. Many Europeans continue this tradition in their households. I am thinking of traveling there next year for this exact reason. However, how can we talk about the after dinner wines when we have not had our main course? Grilled Steak cries for a big red wine like a merlot, cabernet, Pinto Noir or Shiraz. You may find many blends of these as well. Most recently a friend of mine is beating the drum on the amazing Argentinean Mendoza region which is producing such a tasting Malbec wines. Once her taste buds had a sample of an Argentinean Malbec.. I think I still see her doing Tangos around town! Back to our dinner. We are in a fishing mecca on the Gulf and while fish and pork is good with white wines like Chardonnay, Savignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio, You may find a nice Rose or Light Red will also do wonders to replenish you. Remember: The best meal is made with laughter, and wine Cheers!

SPORTSTALK

The heart and soul of the Hornets, Dennis Cavalcanti showed up to play. With two goals under his belt in the championship game, his team was able to overcome Dirty Money and bring the Keg home to it’s rightful owners. Pro scouts were in attendance and were very impressed with the skill level of the league. Bob Thomas, a minor league scout noted, “There are all kinds of players in this league. One thing remains true, the work ethic of the players is enough to sell tickets. I think there is some serious potential in these athletes and in the league.” Talks of an affiliation are underway. One thing is certian, if you missed this game then your not out of luck! WHATS HOT

Pebble Steel smartwatch PebbleSteel There’s no question in my mind that the most generally useful of all the wearable devices at CES 2014 was the Pebble smartwatch. The famous Kickstarter project that raised over $10 million in 2012, released its 2.0 product at CES 2014, the Pebble Steel. It also announced that its appstore for the Pebble will launch at the end of January and they’ve already signed up key partners such as ESPN, Mercedes-Benz, Pandora, Yelp, Foursquare, GoPro, and iControl that will extend the functionality of the smartwatch. However, even its core functionality provides lots of value with its alerts and glanceable information. The new Pebble Steel features the same software as the original Pebble but sports a major design and materials upgrade, going from mostly plastic and nylon to metal and leather. The Pebble Steel comes in brushed steel or matte black, has a much smaller bezel, and comes with both a metal band and a leather band. It looks like something you’d see a professional wearing, and not just a tech geek. The Pebble outpaces its larger rivals in the usability and usefulness of its product. However, at CES, Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky told me that the products from the big tech companies aren’t the primary competitors to Pebble. The biggest challenge is people no longer wanting to wear watches.

LG G FLEX LG

Hewlett-Packard’s Android PCs HP HP’s headliner at CES was the announcement that it’s putting Android on PCs. It’s a slightly odd and surprising move given that Google has discouraged this kind of thing and has pushed PC vendors toward Chromebooks. However, HP makes the case that Android’s robust app ecosystem and the fact that it’s already been readied for the enterprise because of BYOD makes it more of a sure thing for businesses. The company released five different models and sees these ranging from video conferencing systems to kiosks to standard productivity devices for knowledge workers. The base prices range from $399 to $899 and the first models go on sale March 6.

With more than six decades of consumer electronics experience around the globe, LG has proven itself to be a champion of innovation. LG has now leveraged that expertise, forever changing the very shape of the smartphone category by creating the new G Flex, the world’s first curved, flexible smartphone*. Driven by LG’s industry expertise in high-end OLED (organic light-emitting diode) displays, the G Flex represents the latest in OLED screen technology. Borrowing from our growing expertise in curved OLED TVs, the G Flex now brings you a curved form factor that fits in the palm of your hand. Discover the LG G Flex. Featuring innovative technology and a sleek, curved design our flexible phone not only delivers a more comfortable grip and fit, but offers better voice and sound quality. Along with its stunning vertical curve, the LG Flex also features a rear key to help you avoid accidentally powering off your device, as well as QuickTheater, Dual Window and Face Detection technology, a camera timer and an urgent call alert system. Additionally, our flexible cell phone boasts a “self-healing” coating on the back cover, which gives it the ability to recover from scratches and nicks, so your G Flex will look as beautiful as it performs. WHO’SHOT

JAMES BEARD

FL411: James! So we hear your kind of a big deal around here? Jb: Well, I have been in the area for a bit and work in the service industry, so yeah I am lucky enough to meet a lot of people. Plus i’m just plain awesome. FL411: So slingin’ drinks behind a bar anywhere? I’ve heard things. Jb: You know I am! Uh oh, I hope you didn’t hear anything bad! I work in a few different spots; Drynk in SoHo, SIP social Lounge in St. Petersburg just to name a few! FL411: Where can our readers find you around town? Jb: This all depends on what time of the day it is! I seem to be the captain of team, “No Sleep” so I am always going! There’s too much fun to have to get out there! But after 6pm, you’ll probably find me going onto my bartending shift. After bar close....I know a few good spots that are open Till Dawn. If its’s past 6am, then I am probably winning more money than you can count at the Hard Rock. FL411: Have any cool stories, I am sure you have a million! Jb: Well I love my friends that I work with and this past year they decided to of course, throw me an awesome surprise birthday party. Now I can’t tell you everything that went on there, but I am sure you can browse youtube and find something. FL411: What is one thin you want to tell the readers about yourself, and how can they reach you? Jb: Well, we live on the beach and I pour drinks. What else do you need to know? All of you out there, come see me! Mention that you saw me in here and I will give you something amazing. My schedule is pretty standard every week so I always love new faces to meet! You can email info@fl-411.com and request my work schedule so I can give you a hangover! See ya soon! Visit me at #salmonUltraLounge if you dare.

JULIE SHADLE FL411: Hi Julie! Tell us a little bit about yourself! JS: I’m here in the Tampa area enjoying the golden brown beaches this March, unlike most of the country that’s still shoveling out snow. I’m very laid back and shy at first, until I get to know you, then I’ll start to open up... FL411: So what brought you to Tampa? JS: After living up North most of my life, I needed a break from the long cold winters. I”m enjoying this tropical life and not worrying about freezing my butt off. However, I have to watch myself this time of year because I might get run over by the out of town spring breakers. FL411: Where can our readers find you around town? JS: I’m usually in the St. Pete area relaxing and being low key. I tend to be more of a people watcher. If you see me around, don’t be afraid to say hi. I always enjoy good company and to listen to your stories. FL411: So it’s spring break here in Florida, what are some things you feel someone from out of town would want to do? JS: This isn’t Miami Beach, so please keep your tops on lol. I understand you want a break from school and go wild, but just take a minute and stroll the streets and settle down. Your bank account will appreciate it. FL411: What is one thin you want to tell the readers about yourself, and how can they reach you? JS: I’m the type of girl who’s past the weekend party scene. I like to just sit back on the beach and enjoy either some ice tea or if I want to be bad, pour me a margarita baby haha. I”m real
