PROJECTS 1. Els Tres Turons, Boundary. Barcelona: From strategy to detail (1) 2013 Barcelona, Spain Academic project Variable Juanangel FermĂn, Evangelos Gkoumas, Claudia Landi, Alexandra Rodriguez, Marina Tsafari Tutor: Jordi Sarda, Agata Buscemi, Marina Cervera

Year: Location: Client: Area: Team:

The proposal focuses on the reflection and inquiry of natural physical environment Els Tres Turons and their relationship with the city of Barcelona. It seeks to be the purposeful look that gets the keys to project. A look attentive to the complexity of these three natural pieces and their condition of redoubt against urban growth.

1

2 1: The edge between structured city and natural relief is an area plenty of opportunity, where grows spontaneous construction.

3 4

Vimeo 2, 3 y 4: These three mountains have a relationship with the city at different scales; one of them is a metropolitan scale due a double condition of receiving park guell´s tourist and its visual predominance on the city; a second scale in the public parks: Creueta del Coll, Parc Guinardo and El Turo de la Rovira, and its value as urban space; and finally the local scale reflected in the areas that are in direct and constant relationship with citizens, a relationship that entail changes, perhaps disturbances, but without doubt reflects a community need.

6 5

5: The idea of boundary between urban structure and natural space appears in distinct ways: there are boundaries constructed, drawn and dwelt.

Vimeo 6, 7 y 8: The orographic is the most important feature that define urban environment, suggesting differents ways to read and adapt to the slope. This determines the ways to look, to approach and use it, therefore, it affect life community.

7 8

9 10

9 y 10 : Was performed a lift of activities, public bus routes, access, stairs, urban facilities and relationship established between the people whom live at the edge of Els Tres Turons and its surrounding.

PROJECTS 2. Els tres Turons, Vestige - Carrer de Marià Lavèrnia. Barcelona: From strategy to detail (2) Year: Location: Client: Area: Team: Tutor:

2013 Barcelona, Spain Academic Project Variable Juanangel Fermín, Claudia Landi, Marina Tsafari Jordi Bellmunt, Sergi Carulla

The proposal establishes a relationship between El Turó de la Rovira and the Hospital Santa Creu, availing of the projection of four new public spaces that articulate El Guinardo with El Carmel, trough Parc Guinardo. This new public spaces can function independently, concentrating activities that respond to the topography, the plant pre-existence and the needs of the community.

1

2

3

1, 2 y 3: The project is a sequence paths that allows ascend and connect with El Parc Guinardo. Each one of them respond, individually, to the conditions of its environment: accesses, spaciality, visual relations and activities for the community, being adjusted to the natural and cultural features.

4

4: At El Turo de la Rovira, it develops a project using a group of houses located at the top of the hill. This project will be a transition space between El Parque del Guinardo and Las Baterias de la Rovira, and the development being adjusted to every plot of the demolished houses, where every constructed area will be replaced by green terraces and the old courtyards will be impermeable terraces.

5

6

7

8

5, 6, 7 y 8: The terraces system proposed has variations in height of 0.50 cm that will allow relationship between the project and the hill. The construction of the project refers to the tectonics of the demolished houses and the simplification of the construction process, consisting of reinforced concrete wall that incorporate on its section a lighting installation.

PROJECTS 3. Le Gran Vide. Tourism: new uses for old territories 2013 Port Leucate - Le Bacares, France Academic Project Variable Konstantine Abzianidze, Juanangel Fermín, Evangelos Gkoumas, Felipe Martínez, Francisco Navarro Tutor: Ricard Pié Ninot, Purificación Díaz Ameneiro, Anna Majoral Pelfort, Mònica Batalla Farret

Year: Location: Client: Area: Team:

The project focus on the Racine Operation, developed at Languedoc Roussillon coast, in the south of France, specifically on the Port LeucatBarcarés´ turistic station, this operation was applied as an attempt to activate the territory with tourism. This project does recognition of the territory and an evaluation of the problems arose in the last decades, for the development a regeneration strategy.

1 2 1: The project intervenes in the water system, through construction of sand barrier, could increase leisure activities due to the diversifying condition of water. The water system will have three parts: one system of recreational water channel connecting the architectonic unities and the sea; a system salt water where oysters are produced nearby Port Leucate; and finally a pond that will change its salinity due the input of fresh water from aquifer, this pond will be an important ecological resource. 2: There are eight architectonic unities, developed following the criteria of Racine Operation. In this moment, these unities are independent, alternating each other by a serie of idle voids.

3

4 3, 4 y 5: From recognition of the void, public and private, and the lack of landscape criteria, it propose its articulation, from the small communitarian backyards go through circulation voids until connect with the natural voids. This unitary void will developed according the natural condition of the sand bar, and recovering the dunes. This new spaces will increase leisure activities associated at tourism.

5

6

6: This sequence of spaces will combine recreation activities, permanent and ephemeral, and the circulation system established at Racine Operation. The private parking lots will be organized to permit these new uses.

PROJECTS 4. 10.000.000 m3. Disturbances 2013 Castellar del Vallés, Spain Academic Project 456.023 m2 Juanangel Fermín, Corrado dell`Olio, Juan Pablo Martínez Tutor: Manuel Ruisanchez, Anna Bonet, Marcel Cumplido

Year: Location: Client: Area: Team:

The project establishes a standard for the filling process of the Vallsallent quarry with an estimated quantity of 10.000.000 m3 of inert waste in a span of 100 years. The developed parameters allow the generation of a new landscape, thanks to the activation of natural processes related to the erosion control, rainwater management and the consequent vegetal dynamics. A man-made place, but not a place for men; only time will clarify its relation with the surrounding environment.

1 2

3

1: Many tests were made on a physical model, using basic tools, in order to investigate the filling capacity of the quarry and various formal configurations. 2 y 3: The chosen topographic solution is made of macro-dunes which support the rainwater management throughout the filling process and, gradually, allows the formation of diverse soil moisture zones.

Vimeo

Vimeo

4

5 6

4: In the first stage of the filling (with an estimated yearly quantity of 250.000 m3) the erosion process is treated with the contour brush layering, moreover the first constructed dunes prevent the nearby creek from pouring into the basin. 5: In the second stage, while the filling goes on, some works of slope revegetation are started, while the wetlands stabilise themselves. 6: Third stage. Once the filling process with inert waste is finished, the last dunes are constructed, reaching the final topographic form. A modification of the first constructed dunes allows the creek to flow back to the valley and to feed the wetland.

8 7

7: The reconstruction of this new place makes reference the man’s capacity of modify, until obtaining a new landscape, that starts natural process conditioned by the project decision. 8: The vegetal regeneration develops in time with differents states of growing, due at the different stage of construction and the new topographic.

PROJECTS 5. Vallvidriera. L´aigua de Collserola II 2012 Vallvidriera, Collserola, Spain Academic Project Variable Annunziata De Comite, Juanangel Fermín, Marina Tsafari Tutor: Enric Batlle, Javier Zaldivar, Iván Sanchez

Año: Ubicación: Cliente: Extensión: Equipo:

The Vallvidrera stream originates in the Serra of Collserola, within the limits of the metropolitan park of Barcelona. It is part of the Llobregat river basin (length of 12 km), crosses the old part of Vallvidrera village, ending in the Llobregat at Molins de Rei, being the only permanent watercourse of Collserola Park. This valley is characterized by an extreme variety of scenarios (riparian forest, agricultural areas, industrial and residential peripheries), by water availability during the year although not always of good quality, by a position that makes it a potential and attractive element of connection between Barcelona and the Llobregat.

1

2

3 4

5

1, 2 y 3: The project ambit is the contact area between the streams and the mountains and cities, with the intention of improve the circulation through the site values, focusing the water systems. 4 y 5: Building “active parking areas that carry out a first purification of storm water; structuring a system of constructed wetlands to improve the quality of water and ensure the reuse of it.

6

7 8

6 ,7 y 8: The project uses landscape values: fruit plantations, water systems and forest to make a new structure of agricultural production, landscape conservation, to improve water resource and the transversal and longitudinal connection. The management of the agricultural landscape will create a changing image of the place, using the different natural processes of farming.

9 10

11

12 13

9, 10,11, 12 y 13: Its present appearance is patchy and sometimes degraded , for sure not always able to communicate its potentiality and its history. The goal of returning an identity in this place making it active and conscious in use and productivity (agricultural, cultural and tourist) has led us to “infrastructure the area starting from its water, returning to its generating element a central and active role. Rebuilding and reproducing the original system of movement and storage of water along the fringes of agricultural walls, we have given shape to a system that holds together the productive functionality, the usability for playing and recreational aim, otherwise inaccessible or considered unattractive, the story of an agricultural tradition that can be interpreted in the light of new lifestyles and new channels of distribution of quality production.

PROJECTS 6. Overlape. Projecting green roof 2012 Molins de Rei, Spain Academic Project Variable Annunziata De Comite, Juanangel FermĂn, Chrysi Gousiou, Marina Tsafari Tutor: Joao Ferreira Nunes, Carlos Ribas

Year: Location: Client: Area: Team:

Publication: Revista Paisea #025, La cubierta vegetal / Green roof

The project is located in the suburbs of Barcelona, right next to the mountain of Collserola, in the alluvial plain of the Llobregat River, an area which used to be covered by agricultural and which now is half occupied by industrial settlements. The building is located in this industrial layout and its last floor offers views towards the mountain and the river landscapes. The landscape has evolved through the overlapping of signs and elements, some of them remain hidden under layers of sediments, apparently lost. Our study of the evolution of the landscape has revealed the juxtaposition of the nature of the mountains and the river with the latter structure of the agriculture, currently under a process of urbanisation. We aim to reveal through an archaeological process these two memories, the original wild landscape and the organized structure of the agriculture.

1

2 3

1, 2 y 3: The project is a first operation on the territory, capable of being copied for the rest of the buildings, allowing reveal and restore the relationship between the layers that had existed before industrial development.

4

4, 5 y 6: As a result, the idea of the green terrace has been translated

into a double layered structure, a green surface on the roof of the building referring to the mountain and a green pergola over it referring to the agriculture.

In the first layer, the green roof, the native vegetation (high and low herbaceous species of Collserola) creates walls and open spaces which guide the movement and the vision. The second layer, a metallic structure over the building with the geometry, scale and vegetation of the “agriculturescape” (vineyard), creates the second skin which open windows toward the “mountainscape”.

5 6

7

8

9

7, 8 y 9: The new double roof, one wild and the other one closer to the human scale, seeks to encourage an aesthetic experience that explains the identity and evolution of the area and accentuates the exterior natural references while creating a microclimate that can easily take part of the daily life of its users.

PROJECTS 7. Breaking barriers. Girona-Onyar Year: Location: Client: Area: Team: Tutor:

2012 Girona, Spain Academic Project Variable Juanangel Fermín, Andrea Salazar Víctor Ténez, Martí Franch

Girona is located in the confluence of four rivers, one of them is Onyar, responsible of the most important picture of the city, the facades of the houses reflected on the river. However, this spectacular condition is present only in the last third of the urban river, from Ter River until Catalunya square. The middle third is concrete due to the historical floods. The last third is located at the suburbs of the city, in apparently natural condition, coinciding with immigrant neighborhoods. The project develops a solution for the two last third of the river Onyar, that resolve the flood issue and transform it in a city value.

1

2

3

1, 2 y 3: The project creates a unitary perception of the two last third of the river, through applying specific strategies for each one of them: Middle third (tramo 01): it propose the restoration of the riverbed and the enlargement of the section, through the connection with the public spaces of the city. Last third (tramo 02): the riparian forest is restored and is integrated with the opportunity places at its margins: industrial polygon and the scientific park, facilitating the connection with Villa Roja and Creuta.

These operations will convert the river in one urban corridor, facilitating the north-south connection, also will increase the leisure activities.

4

5 6

4, 5 y 6: In the last third of the river, it projects a modification of topography to make a pond that keeps back the floods and permits to treat the stormwater. These modifications of the landscape can be supplemented with cycleways and pedestrian paths that permit acces to the new urban corridor.

7 8

7 y 8: This intervention builds a periurban park, that it will be a new spaces for the citizens, changing with every season, and making a wild central void.

PROJECTS 8. Passage Galeria Venezia Year: Location: Cliente Area: Team:

Publication: Magazine Entre Rayas nº103

This competition look for a project that renews Passage Galeria Venezia. The strategy of the proposal is to generate a master plan at municipal scale, in which the summation of individual strategies make the proposal. Analytic criterias of actual situations, aesthetics, spatial solutions, contextual incidents and behavioral aspects are studied in each strategy.

1 2

1 y 2: The application each one of the masterplan´s strategies will allow revitalize the passage, transforming its lugubrious atmosphere by one that results in the diversity of activities and position about public space by the users.

3

3: To make a renovation in the use of the passage is necessary understand the dynamics that happen with it. The terms of use of the space vary time to time, therefore there are multiple dynamics. This tells us that the passage is an area mutable, this could be the most important design criteria. 4: The terraces and the central courtyard of the building are the points where we can drill the roof without disturbance the building working. In these spots have been designed lighting elements that replace the plafond.

4

5

6

5: Having as model the geometry of the soil, it proposes the installation of a second facade, creating a new perspective for the commercial shops, unifying all the facades. 6: It proposes a municipal sign with the incorporation of street furniture staying in the second facade. This furniture is capable to transform the space, and configure multiple activities.

PROJECTS 9. Metropolitan Park of Maracay AYear: Location: Client: Area: Team:

1

2

3

4 5

1, 2 ,3 y 4: There are a vegetal preexistence that organize and divide the total spaces in sequences of vegetal voids. The proposal focus in this vegetal preexistence, through implementing strategies that focus on this feature and increase the diversity. 5: For the development of the proposal are established four biotopes: savanna, forest, understory and urban green. Each one of them with particular features and function, and together allow to build the park essense.

6

6: The voids are enhanced like active landscapes, offering a sequences of open spaces that includes: amphitheater, concerts, dancing classes, theater performances, baseball fields, pond and playground. Also, are incorporated the existing structures with their uses, improving where is necessary (police station, toilets and cafeterias). It will include a maintenance building, information and composting area.

7

7: Green urban biotope. Space located in the park perimeter that relationed the city with the park, as a buffer zone, utilizing the plants to make a suitable encounter with the visitors. 8 9

This project arose for the direct relationship between the public authority, private institution and the organized community, and it seeks to propitiate the sensibilisation of the citizens about the Casupo Municipal Park, through a study that facilitates the compression of the complexity of park dynamics, and its potential, considering its natural values. There were proposed four areas of intervention: Urban Corridor, Portals, Crest and Basin.

1 2

3

1: The Casupo Municipal Park was created by municipal authority in 1988, and it´s part of the green belt of the city. It´s formed by the foothills of the coast mountain system. This park consists in hills, sequences of crests and basins, where there is a dominant view over the city. 2 y 3: The boundary of the park has been in constant pressure by the growth of the city in the last 30 years. However, this condition not only has generated conflicts, but a system of opportunities that allow the easy access by citizens to the top of the mountain.

5: Were established four areas of intervention: Urban Corridor: The development of this corridor allows to make an easy connection of the park by the citizens, using the urban circulation systems and the public spaces located at the surroundings of the park, through the implementation of a recognizable references system, and the development of cycleways, parking lots and sports courts. Portals: Intervention of the existent access areas, through the introduction of new uses: information office, control access and toilets. These intervention will have a unitary image. Crests: The park is connected by the pedestrian pathways located at the crest. It improves this pathways to add a system of hiking and mountain bike, supported by a control spots, signage and rest spots. Basins: In the park, these spaces are an ecological value to protect, there are water streaming, and the most diversity of wildlife. Therefore, it implements didactic classrooms and interpreting pathways for awareness of the citizens.

4

5 6

7

5, 6 y 7: The urban corridor will allow connecting the park with the public spaces system. These pu-

blics spaces will have complementary activities to the park, and will have the same signage systems of the park, to assure the recognition as just one structure.
