PEOPLE AND PLACE In this part we explore the site using videography as a based for our site analysis in later design. In my concept the film represent the memory if the beach that explore the attactions and cultural event across the stretch. The concept of the video is telling a history of new-biggin where they already attracting a lot of visitors since it was open in 1930’s when yeh whole seafront was packed with variety shows and entertaiment, but in current ere, the site become socially cold because of the constant growth of housing and technology, maks people don’t go out often. I made this video packed like vlog and short film in hope to attract more people outside the context to treat Newbiggin as the face of the city again.
PAGE 10 Scene from every video telling the story of past and future memory of the place from the girl. This video showing all the diffrent historical places, tourist attractions and local events to promote the site. In the video the blue colour tone represent the current situation of Newbiggin where everything only remnants of the past and the sepia colour tone represent the joy and excitement of Newbiggin in the past.
PAGE 11
ADVERTISE THE PLACE
BROCHURE DESIGN To advertise the beach in my studio we create a series of graphics design such as poster and brochure. My concept of graphic is clean with playfull bright colours to attract people from distance.
PAGE 12
BEACH POSTER
The beach poster goal is to bring back the memories of Newbiggin to its prime condition for people to enjoy the site again, with the photos in the middle representing the re-creation of the past that will be revive again in 2040.
PAGE 13
FILM POSTER
From the film I made a poster trying to capture the romantic feeling of the site. The graphics represent the beach as a highly memorable place where you forget the daily life and traps within the vibe. The feet represent the pleasure of relax and escaping from hectic life. the sea reflects the site mood and the on top of the rocks theres a newbiggin landmarks the couple statue.

My focus on cross discplinary design is fashion. I designed a masked for AR to watch performance. I used clay as a massing model and vacuum forming plastic coated with black paint and glossy finish. The real product will be made from aluminium for balance weight, anodised to make scratch resistant and highgloss finish. This mask will enhance my design experience taht want to traps people in fantasy and strange dream.

CITY OF DREAMS +
+
+
+
Although the relationship between culture and commerce can often prioritise the former over the latter, We must recognise the many complex, hidden interdepencies between them in contemporary society. Rather than moments of dissension, we see them as opportunities. The many latent effects of cultural projects may not be obvious, but play a large role in reshaping cities. My design aim is to revitalise the pragmatic, sober town of Newbiggin by the sea. Through this lens, my aim to exploit the performative element of the theatre, and of architecuture in general, far beyond its conventional functions. I believe that architecture should encourage interaction between the architect, The object and the public, This, in my design, drama and circus performance are not restricted to the theatre, but reach out to enhance the liveliness of the city
PAGE 24
UNDERSTANDING CONTEXT +
+
+
+
The site is located in Newbiggin by the sea in Northumberland coast, United Kingdom. It has four seasons, strong wind and cloudy sky. The site has transparent landscape (‘nothing there, but there’s something there’) that mostly covered by empty grasslands. It is an interesting area with a lots of unique events and culture. It has one of the longest promenade in Northumberland, the couple statue located on the sea wall, and St. Bartholomew’s church which is the main landmarks of the site. The promenade and beach itself become a public display for perfomance and event such as easter kite festival and camping on the sea. Other interesting part is, it has circus and theatre community that perform in Newbiggin Maritime Centre every three months. The only down side of the site is the community and cultural events lacks the iniative to promote the town and there is no connection between the community and public. From this general finding my idea is to create a beacon

SOCIAL, ECONOMY, HISTORY Further study to develop my design I’m curious about the social, economy and history of the site. Fishing has always been associated with Newbiggin, although later many inhabitants were employed in coal mining. By Victorian times, Newbiggin was Northumberland’s favourite seaside town, attracting hundreds of visitors every day in the summer months. Since promenade was made in 1933 the city changed from fishing to resort town. As the time goes by the town become sober due to large growth in high social housing, makes the promenade become less public due to big private zoning.
Has a very large concentration of children that are under 16 at resident population. This commonly seen in suburban neigborhoods and sometimes in areas of high social housing.
The vibe after the finish construction of the promenade
Mostly are semi-skilled and unskilled worker in the site. Creating jobs opportunities within the site is considered to enhance the city growth.

URBAN STRATEGIES & CIRCUS TYPOLOGY +
In this section I’m looking for a new typologies of performance that is not restricted in one place, but reach out to enhance the liveliness of the city by studying the ancient and contemporary circus. The result is combining the narative journey of promenade and circus called ‘Promenade Circus’ can be a solution to revitalize the city vibe.
Narrative Journey

In the urban solution I extend the promenade, piercing the building, creating a loop with promenade circus that will achieve higly narrative and memorable journey.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY +
+
+
+
My design concept is aiming to create an surrealistic atmosphere that traps the visitor inside giving a sense of entering a different realm by combining the circus performance and interactive digital art exhibtion that will immerse the visitors. First initial idea is finding the shape from nature to achieve a sense of movement and as a beacon that stand out from the context, an alien shape building sitting on the site.

PAGE 41
At the end of finding the design form concept, I took the language from stone eroded by the wind. Using the site landscape as precedent creating an extruded promenade extention that will create a canyon like structure. The cliff and rock landscape from the site will gives more character for my design that somehow is part of the newbiggin.

BUILDING PROGRAMME +
+
+
+
Early massing programme diagrams I am constantly working inside outside to test the layout control and programme to achieve functional and highly atmospheric organic quality. What I want to achieve in this process is to create a promenade circus with multilevel performance inside the building and main performance at the heart of the building.

The main materials for this project is using Ceramic pearl tiles and GRC concrete panel. The ceramic Pearl tiles represent a dance of spectrum colours that change base on the sun rays position, creating an elegant and playful movement like the circus. The GRC panel is seperated into two types. The organic canyon shape is using textured GRC concrete that represent the sand texture within the landscape and the smooth concrete represents the work of man which is very smooth, technological, and precise. Both of the concrete finish represents the combination of traditional and modern art at the same time.

The water in this stage act as a curtain, circus performers who do aerial performance can jump into 5m deep pool and completely vanish in the water in the audience point view. Oxygen masks are provided for performer to standby underwater with scubadiver, light who guide them and rope for easy and fast movement without draining performers energy in the water. The moveable floor in the pool use as a platform for circus performer to either perform like its dancing on the water or raise performers from underwater.

ENVIRONMENTAL STRATEGY
The site has a an obvious energy potential that can be harness. It has strong sea wave power in the site. Sea power is the main source of power that can further reduce the green house effect. The most suitable renewable wave power station is using CETO because other power station need a big construction, disturb the view of the sea and damaging the coral ecosystem below. Compare to other renewable wave energy the device operates under water where it is safer from large storms and invisible from the shore. It does not have large construction which has minimal damage to coral ecologies in the site.
PAGE 79
SPRAY CONCRETE METHOD
Reduction in Formwork Costs In comparison with conventionally poured concrete, sprayed concrete requires far less formwork. This is especially so if curved or organic shapes are favoured by the designer which may be impossible to achieve using conventional formwork. Virtually any shape can be formed especially thin shells and linings. Ease of Access The ease of application of sprayed concrete means that material can be applied in restricted areas, often considerable distances from the point of access. Without the need to transport and erect bulky formwork only the operator and delivery hoses need to be able to visit the workface. The cement and sand mixture can be transported over long distances from the production plant and also suitable for organic shape design, hence using this method are suitable for my building skin cosntruction Low Water/Cement Ratio Sprayed concretes generally have a lower water/cement ratio than poured concrete. This is particularly true in the dry process where a low slump mix capable of supporting itself without sagging is quite normal. Wet process mixes achieve a similar result using a plasticiser. High Strengths with Rapid Strength Gain Sprayed concretes can be expected to attain high compressive strengths particularly with a low water/cement ratio and the dense compaction achieved by the high velocity of application. Rapid strength gain is also achieved, especially when using factory batched materials. Compressive strengths 30% higher than conventionally placed concretes can be expected. High Density/Low Permeability The high velocity of placement ensures good compaction and high density coupled with low permeability and water absorption. This results in a durable homogeneous material with excellent freeze/thaw resistance, low surface cracking and a high degree of abrasion resistance. These properties may be further enhanced by the use of fibre reinforcement in the mix. Enhanced Adhesion and Bond Strength
As with so many operations in construction, good surface preparation is vital. Assuming that the substrate is properly prepared then the bond strength with sprayed concrete is generally excellent. Furthermore, the use of bonding agents and coatings is usually unnecessary and, under certain conditions, damaging to the bond. High Speed High Output Sprayed concrete can deliver high volumes quickly and economically. Free formed tunnel linings or retaining walls can be sprayed immediately after excavation. Walls up to 1m thick have been constructed in the USA using the wet process even with very high reinforcement densities. Multiple layer application can reduce the generation of thermal stresses in construction.

Compare to other renewable wave energy the device operates under water where it is safer from large storms and invisible from the shore. It does not have large construction which has minimal damage to coral ecologies in the site. Advantages of CETO No Visual Impact – fully submerged Flexible -operates in variety of water depths, swell directions, tides & seafloor conditions, onshore & offshore power generation. Storm Survivability – fully submerged & energy dampening system Security – provides emissions free sustainable energy and water security to countries & islands Scalable – modular array design Minimal – environmental impact, co-exists with marine life. Desalination – zero-emission freshwater & co-production possible Consistency - It produce a consistent energy because it is fully submerged even if the sea is visually very calm, but at the bottom it still have the wave power resulting a very consistent energy Building Strategy Most of the interior requires dark space, the only space that requires light only the restaurant space. so it is place at the corner with undistrubted view and also gain daylighting throught the day. slighltly tilted glazing use to gain as much sunlight, due to the sun is not that strong in the site. Adjustable louvres control the quality of natural light through the glazed roof in theatre area. It provides daylight when the space is in used for performers to practice and rehearsal and all the louvres are closed when in performance.

PLATE HEAT EXCHANGER
Ventilation - As most of the rooms within the structure are use for interactive digital art exhibition, hence there is very minimal windows. So considerable mechanical ventilation are needed for building comfort. Plate heat exchanger provide hot filtered air from outside suitable for cold weather in the site, the plate are heated from wave power electricity make the building more sustainable. Ducts are placed at the bottom side of each room and for stage performance the ducts are place below seating area. The hot air at the bottom are better, because hot air is much lighter than cold air, when you place the ducts on the floor you get a warm feet to the body and slightly cool temperature for the head which is more comfortable than ceiling duct work.

The primary aim of this book is to analyze the psychic quality of mystical experience through phenomenology for application in architecture design. This theory might be essential to give more understanding of mystical or spiritual atmosphere in creating or achieving mystical atmosphere in various kind of space. To make this book I went to Bali for my case study to help my understanding of the mystical experience and their ritual application of building their temple. I stayed two months in secluded small village called desa Tembuku. I practiced and participated a lot in their rituals as a Hindu-Buddha monk to build small temple called pura Candrawinata within the village. However it is impossible to explain all the rituals in this book due to duration and words restriction (I only chose specific rituals that relevant to architecture) and also I cannot provide many photos due to respect their sacred rituals, because it is not allowed to be shown in public. Thus before going to Bali I must gather all necessary knowledge so I can properly research and sensitive on which part of factor I should write about. In first chapter of the book will explain necessary knowledge about mystical experience and then moving on to case study and the theory that I get from all these knowledge for application in architecture. b

CHAPTER I : REVELATION Mystical in Unconscious
Logic is certainly unshakable, but it cannot withstand to the power of sens-
es and interoception. These elements evoke numerous perceptions such as time (chronoception), agency, familiarity and rely on the ability to detect and transduce mechanical force. When I read the essay ‘Imaginative Enclave in the Maison de Verre‘ wrote by Katriina Blom, she mention “Spatial imagination relies on spatial perception and architecture’s concrete qualities, which interact with our body, our unconscious” 1 , it happens when the space reverberates to our senses creating interoception. I like to use word interoception instead of mental image. “Mental image is the representation in a person’s mind of the physical world outside of that person”2 , however for me interoception is a combination of spirit, soul and body, these three part is not merely muscular relation and representation to object in physical world, but is an one’s body awareness intimately connected to self-identity, the concept of being “me”. “Me” is a psychic sensitivity within the body, the body is a sense of a physiological condition, feelings that is a used to represent one’s body inside from ubiquitous information channel. 3 Mystical experience is an empirical rather than theoretical. We must purify our interoception and lost in the experience itself. When the conscious empty, it enters into a deeper state to unconscious.
In order to understand mystical experience, we must understand the un-
conscious. In this case my theory lends itself to the unconscious theory from Jung. In Jung’s theory the term ‘unconscious’ has a series of specific meanings. I think ego has a relation to the unconscious, because in general meaning of psychoanalysis ego is the part of the mind that mediates between the conscious and the unconscious and is responsible for reality testing and sense of personal identity 4 This notionlleads to thelprocess oflindividuation, is structured byla sequence of phaseslof the development oflconsciousness close to animallinstinctual consciousness but mediated-bylhuman institutions. 5 In architecture the process of individuation is critical. All architecture has the same concept means to dwell, what makes them different is the process of individuation, because they need different solution, different situation and conditions to satisfy person’s psychic and physical needs. The unconscious appears asla paradoxical unknown ‘Self’: “the egolis by definition, subordinatelto the selfland is related to itllike a part tolthelwhole.” 6 Jung postulate ‘absolute unconscious’ tolspecify theltotality of everythinglthat is unconscious. “Consciousness is likela surface or a skinlon a vast unconsciouslarea of unknown extent” 7 Hence the unconsciouslincludes not only repressedlcontents, but all psychiclmaterial that lies belowlthe threshold oflconsciousness, 8 repressed mental contentlis not restrictedlfrom the unconscious. “I define thelunconscious as theltotality of all psychiclphenomena that lack the quality oflconsciousness” 9
That meanslthat the consciousnessllack the ability to
describe the unknown withinlouter world in parallel tolthe unknownlwithin inner world. Thelunconscious has thelspiritual experiencelof a situationlat a distinctltime during alprocess. As Jung saidlthat the unconsciouslis the totality oflall psychic phenomenalthat lacklthe quality oflconsciousness, if thelunconscious is entirelylunknown than a personlcannot enter or linklwith it.

EXPLORING EXPERIENCE The main purpose of the building is to increase awereness of plastic consumption, education centre, and meeting space. There are two artists who live permanently as an professional film model maker who also teach visitors in digital film making and model making, and the other 2 artist as an experimental bioplastic painter, who create and experiment with the facade panel. The building also has a small scale recycle plastic factory gathered from nearest area to become the main source of material to make miniatures and small furniture that later can be exhibit and sell in shop.
The diagram show the workflow diagram and atmospheric drawing on how the artist start to cook the bioplastic to the facade panel installation.

GROW AND PLAY
The Bolivia Kindergarten main concept is urban farming to provide children a healthy food, independence, sensitivity of nature, enhance motoric skills and appriciate life beings. The kindergarten also provide library from book donation and playfull playground to encourage them to get a ‘positive busy’ hence decrease the chance for them to work outside school. In social and economic aspect urban farming can also help their parents to reduce school maintenance and cost by selling the farming products. Patio within the hall function as a children dining space and also use to provide parenting seminar bringing the Bolivia culture to eat and chat. The hall situated in the center of the school use for outdoor class, story telling and other activities. The Building aesthetic idea is from Mayan Revival and hanging garden of Babylon to provide children a memorable place to play. In terms of bioclamatic and economic materials, the main material are using compressed soil bricks locally source from the site, exterior ‘tamelass’ finish (mixed of 2 earth, straw and sand), interior ‘nous-nous’ finish to create a breathable interior. The envelope shape and big opening in the west facade to get more indirect sunlight making it cool during the day and warm in the night. The foundation is using building rubble from school and the zinc roof from the sportsfield are all re-use to fix the existing building roof. Playground space is playing with the earth contour to provide an economic and fun play level for children.
