Immediately after Kelly (Lawson) photographed our home, I began counting the days until this issue could be shared with you, our amazing Tuck community.
In 2019, my partner, Caleb, and I purchased land in rural New Brunswick, just outside Saint John, with no immediate plans to build At the time, we were still living in British Columbia, and our return to New Brunswick was part of a long-term plan. However, soon after making the purchase, we found ourselves missing home and decided to fast-track that plan.
Following our move, we began designing our first home, starting with a sketch on a scrap of paper. Once our plans were finalized, we secured trades and subcontractors and broke ground in the spring of 2021. By December of that year just six months later we were moving into our dream home
To this day, I’m still in awe that this is my life, in our house, in this beautiful province, surrounded by people I love. I’m always grateful for it and feel so proud of what we accomplished with an incredible team of trades every time I look around the house
Thank you for taking the time to read this issue and for your support of Tuck and me! I hope that, after reading this, you feel inspired to tackle some projects in your own home.

Josh, a pivotal member of the Tuck Studio team, collaborates closely with Judith on interior consultations. He temporarily relocated with his partner to British Columbia before returning to New Brunswick during the pandemic, where they built their dream home.
Josh and Caleb built their home together, taking on the roles of project managers and handling the renderings, plans, and selection of finishes and details. Their hands-on approach extended beyond planning, as they finished parts of their home themselves. This collaborative effort resulted in a space that reflects their shared vision and dedication.
The couple intentionally designed the bedrooms to be smaller than the expansive open-concept living room and kitchen, allowing them to maximize space efficiency while capitalizing on the breathtaking landscape views afforded by larger windows in the living room.

One of Josh and Caleb’s goals for their home was to craft a minimalist space that exuded comfort and warmth They accomplished this by employing a restrained colour palette and incorporating soft textures throughout the space, achieving a harmonious balance between simplicity and coziness.
Josh and Caleb have had their Gus* Modern sectional for over 10 years, surviving four moves between provinces. They own the original Adelaide Bi-Sectional in Varsity Charcoal. In 2024, Gus* Modern introduced its redesign, the Augusta.

A SLEEK, SEAMLESS LOOK WITH EASY-CARE CABINETS
The all-black kitchen anchors one side of the open-concept kitchen and living room space, creating a striking focal point. By incorporating all-black details, the kitchen achieves a cohesive and seamless look. Despite initial concerns about maintenance, the black cabinets feature an anti-smudge and anti-fingerprint finish, making them easy to clean with just water and a microfiber cloth. The countertops, Dekton in a matte finish, are easy to wipe down and are highly stain resistant.
Inspired by the charm of small European homes, Josh placed a dining table in the middle of his kitchen instead of a kitchen island. This choice adds a functional gathering spot while infusing a hint of classic elegance into his modern home. The dining table seamlessly blends old-world charm with contemporary design, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for meals and social gatherings.

Josh's minimalist kitchen thrives without overhead cupboards. By eliminating these cabinets, he opens up the walls for more windows, flooding the space with natural light and maintaining an uncluttered, airy feel. This decision enhances the kitchen's clean lines and aligns with his goal of keeping the environment simple and free from unnecessary elements.
1. Opt for a neutral colour palette, such as white, gray, or beige, for a calm and cohesive look.

3. Invest in high-quality, multi-functional kitchen tools and appliances to reduce clutter.

A Guest Room That Maximizes Functionality DOUBLE UP!
The guest bedroom features two single beds that can be configured to form one queensized bed, providing Josh and Caleb with flexibility to accommodate varying numbers of guests staying over while optimizing space usage.
The primary bedroom is intentionally kept small with minimal furnishings, as Josh and Caleb didn't want to sacrifice any living space. They chose small floating nightstands, a runner instead of a large area rug, and all-white walls with minimal decor. The one must-have? A king-size bed, which fits perfectly.

Josh first noticed this monoprint by Ryan Livingstone and made a passing comment to Judith about its beauty and how it suggested two genderless figures in love. Before he moved to British Columbia, Judith gifted him the artwork as a farewell present. It now hangs in the primary bedroom, where Josh and Caleb are often asked if it depicts them.
