EDITOR’S LETTER
Juicy greetings Welcome to this special Back To School edition of Juiced! magazine. READ
Clearly, no matter what we do, we will all eventually pass away. Yet, this amazing book illustrates the best way to not do so too soon. Thought-provoking and guaranteed to challenge your outlook on life, it’s a title that I can highly recommend.
WATCH
If you ever think you’re not making a difference in this world, watch this. It is one of the most inspirational and moving films I have ever seen. It’s quite long, so get yourself comfy and don’t forget your tissues.
LISTEN
The movie wasn’t up to much, but the music is pretty good! If you find yourself at Juicy Oasis enjoying a tantric massage, maybe ask them to play this sensual soundtrack… Juiced! is published by Chapel Road Creative on behalf of Juice Master. chapelroadcreative.co.uk tel: 01485 533064 email: hello@chapelroadcreative.co.uk Managing director: Daska Davis Contributor: Charlotte Thorneycroft Sub-editor: Lorraine Shah Creative director: Matt Davis Production director: Emma Elmer Repro: Williams Lea Tag Print: Swallowtail Print The publisher has taken every care to ensure contents are correct but can take no responsibility for errors or omissions. I have been studying Natural Juice Therapy for almost two decades now and I’m excited to announce that I’ve condensed everything I’ve learnt into an extremely substantial Juice Master Academy online course. The course launches later this month and you can read all about it in this issue, on page 10. I have thrown everything into this and I’m extremely proud of what we have put together. It is, in my opinion, the most comprehensive juice e-learning experience in the world. I am also delighted that the super fit, super lovely and super talented Gemma Atkinson is our Juiced! cover star this issue. I caught up with Gemma this summer in a small speedboat on the stunning Zêzere River, which flows directly in front of Juicy Oasis. We talked all things fitness, nutrition, acting, Ronaldo! and, of course, about getting the call to go on Strictly Come Dancing (I had to keep that juicy piece of information very close to my chest, as it was top secret at the time!) Not only do we have all the juice on Gemma and full details of the new online Juice Master Academy, but there’s also the usual blend of lifechanging real life stories, mouth-watering, healthy comfort food recipes, the latest juicy news plus a few cheeky articles challenging the healthy status quo. So grab some fruit and veg, make juice, kick back and enjoy this latest issue of Juiced!

JUICE SPOT NEWS AND UPDATES FROM THE WORLD OF JUICING
All treat no tricks
It’s the season of all things orange and gruesome (and we’re not talking Strictly contestants!), so we challenged the Juice Master to grab a gourd and conjure up a glass of the good stuff. This pick-me-up combines autumnal flavours of apple and cinnamon to create a juice that leaves a pumpkin latte out in the cold. Packed with vitamins B1, B2, B6, E and beta-carotene, plus potassium, calcium, magnesium and iron, pumpkin juice will boost your immune system, support your digestion and give you a better night’s sleep, thanks to its sedative effects. Ditch your coffee cup and grab a glass of super squash to go!

NEWS
New arrivals We couldn’t say goodbye to summer without sharing some of our favourite holiday snaps from Juicy Oasis. Alesha Dixon and Beverley Knight hung out with Jason at Juicy Oasis, while Vicky Pattison posted the results of her hard work at the retreat in this incredible bikini shot. Cover star Gemma Atkinson posted this balcony shot and told the Juice Master she wanted to stay forever – a wish Jason would be happy to grant!
Happy juicy after Jason was delighted to be in attendance when one of the Juicy Oasis team tied the knot in Portugal this summer. The crew sent the beautiful Dana off in style with a scattering of fresh rose petals at a traditional ceremony in a Medieval village, dressing the part in their ‘Team Juicy O’ t-shirts. We wish you a long and juicy life together.

JUICE MASTER ACADEMY
Whether you want to understand the science behind juicing and become a juice practitioner, or simply want to know more about the good stuff you drink, the new online Juice Master Academy has the power to turn you into a nutritional ninja
School’s in, but it doesn’t have to be just the kids who get to stretch their grey muscle. The start of the academic year is the perfect moment to focus on your own learning and knowledge. After summer’s hiatus, most of us are refreshed and have a new energy and focus, and if you are serious about your juicing it could be the perfect moment to take this interest to the next level. This month, Jason Vale is launching his brand-new online Juice Master Academy. He has taken his two decades of knowledge in this area and condensed it into perhaps the most comprehensive juice e-learning course in the world.

JUICE MASTER ACADEMY
Freshers’ week From mid-September, anyone from anywhere in the world will be able to soak up Jason’s comprehensive knowledge on juicing and health at the touch of a button. The new Juice Master Academy is comprised of two separate courses: * JUICE MASTER CLASS * JUICE STUDY COURSE Students can take either course individually or complete both and become a qualified Natural Juice Therapist (NJT) Practitioner. The Juice Master Class offers a practical, life’s teaching juice course. Jason has recorded more than 50 videos, showing everything from how to teach a juice demonstration, to fully understanding his famous goldfish bowl concept. This is also where you’ll find Jason live videos from his seminars, extended expert interviews and unseen footage from his groundbreaking documentary Super Juice Me!, along with a wealth of insightful juice study information. This is the course for people who aren’t fussed about achieving a qualification but simply wish to increase their knowledge of the subject in an engaging way. By contrast, the Juice Study Course is an in-depth, academic course with modules in biology, anatomy and physiology, nutrition and juicing. Once they complete the Juice Study Course and Juice Master Class, students graduate
12
as a qualified NJT Practitioner. This important qualification enables the recipient to focus on juicing in their health, nutrition or wellbeing career, and to advise others as a consultant or to run a juice therapy-based business. Fully accredited by the Complementary Medical Association (CMA), the new academy replaces the courses which previously took place at Juice Master HQ, which were limited in number and frequency. The move is part of Jason Vale’s mission to juice the world and, by sharing this unique learning online, his vision is to increase the reach of his teaching globally. “The academy used to be a live event for up to 50 people, several times a year at our HQ,” says Jason, “and people travelled from around the world, including Australia and New Zealand, to be part of the course. But for most people it was too far to travel and be with us for just a weekend. By taking Juice Master Academy online we can offer universal access and bring my vision to juice the world to life. FAST-TRACK TO SUCCESS “When I began Juice Master, the internet was in its infancy, but today’s technology makes an online Juice Master Academy possible and all you need is an internet connection to access the courses. It’s taken a long time to develop the course materials and, as you would expect, I wouldn’t
allow the academy to be launched until I was 100 per cent happy with the content. The Juice Master Academy is a unique opportunity to tap into 20 years of my knowledge and fast-track your own understanding of the nutritional benefits of juicing for yourself and others. “The two tiers of learning are designed to appeal to juicers looking for different levels of knowledge, and although there’s no certificate at the end of the Juice Master Class this is the perfect course for anyone who has read one of my books and wants to learn more about juicing, blending and nutrition.
D itch the junk! Jason demonstrates how the body is polluted by poor nutrition with his goldfish bowl concept
Masters of juice “The modules are more than just a juicing demonstration and provide an insight into the science of juicing. They tackle issues such as ‘big pharma’ and how to make lifestyle changes to eat healthily after juicing. “When you understand the benefits of fresh juice, your brain knows there is no substitute and the trade-off is immense. For example, I won’t eat cooked broccoli as I find it disgusting and bitter, but I will juice it to get its raw goodness into my body, as I have the knowledge to understand how it will change me. “Once you’ve completed the 11 modules of the Juice Master Class, which will take between two to five months, depending on the time you
choose to commit, you can watch the videos again and again, and you will have the knowledge to share with others who are interested in juicing. “There’s also access to a new Ultimate A-Z of Ailments download, which is an invaluable tool in tackling common conditions that may be affecting you or your family’s health. “In short, it’s 20 years’ worth of Jason Vale condensed into 11 sessions, and the best value-for-money course on juicing you’ll find anywhere. I’ve always had the philosophy of giving more for less, as my mission is to juice the world, and that’s the entire premise of the Juice Master Class which offers a unique lifelong juicing resource.”

Top of the class For those who are looking to take their knowledge further with the potential to develop a career in nutrition, with juicing at the heart of their business, the Juice Study Course provides a step-by-step programme with continual assessment followed by a final exam and video project to qualify as a NJT Practitioner. Providing indepth knowledge of the human body, nutrition and health, this academically focused course will equip you with a ‘black belt’ of juicing knowledge. Again, while the course can be undertaken at the pace that suits you, the Juice Study Course is intended to be completed within three to six months, and ideally within an 18-month period to ensure you have a solid understanding of every aspect of the programme. Along the way, the Juice Master team is able to offer extra advice or support via email. The Juice Master Academy encompasses both the Juice Study Course and the Juice Master Class, and graduates of both programmes will be completely immersed in the world of juicing. Awarded a NJT Practitioner qualification, they will be featured on the ‘Find A Therapist’ section of the Juice Master website which is viewed by millions of Jason’s fans around the world. “We wanted the Juice Master Academy to provide a completely immersive experience and an in-depth foundation, much like an NLP course,” adds Jason. “Some people may choose to finish their studies with a retreat at
14
Juicy Oasis or Juicy Mountain, which would be the perfect way to celebrate and contemplate the next steps towards embarking upon a juice-based business with the knowledge they have acquired.” Always a visionary, Jason is rightly proud of the development of Juice Master Academy and its ability to transform the juicing community through knowledge growth. “There’s not going to be another course out there like
this and the Juice Master Academy has everything you need for whichever stage you are at in your juicy journey – the Juice Master Class is a Mini Cooper, great fun and gets the job done with flair, while the Juice Study Course is a Volvo, offering clear, reliable, infallible learning. “I set out 20 years ago to juice the world and this is a real milestone for Juice Master which is a step closer to realising my ambition. Completely global and more affordable, the Juice Master Academy is a unique resource in spreading the juicy word.”

QUESTIONS? WHAT ELSE DO I NEED? It should come as no surprise that you’ll need a juicer and blender to put your new knowledge into practice, and Juice Master has all the equipment you need. Watch Jason’s Juice Tube guide on YouTube to help you select the gear that you need and then head over to juicemaster.com/ shop to bag a bargain on your quality juicing tools. If you are taking the Juice Study Course, you’ll need some additional textbooks which can easily be purchased on Amazon, bought second hand or even downloaded online – choose the resources in the format you need to study and succeed! HOW CAN I DEVELOP A JUICING BUSINESS? If you complete both the Juice Master Class and Juice Study Course, and graduate from the Juice Master Academy you will receive NJT Practitioner status. You will be able to provide one-to-one consultations and workshops with clients, speak at events and seminars, perhaps offer ‘juice parties’ or even run a juice bar. However, it’s not possible to use the Juice Master brand or Jason Vale’s name as part of your business – as you can appreciate, these are legally protected assets. However, by completing the Juice Master Academy, you have the potential to develop your own juice business and spread the juicy word in new ways. As Jason would say, ‘Use the juicy power!’

JASONVALEOFFICIAL.COM
With the launch of a new official website and controversial blog, Juice Master Jason Vale explains why he wants to start a debate about the NHS
OK, so I am a little late to the party, but better late than never! I have been asked for years if I would do blogs and vlogs, but always resisted due to time restraints. However, as the new Jason Vale official website (jasonvaleofficial.com) went live, I thought I’d include a blog section where people can keep up-to-date with my latest rants and opinions on what’s going on in the world of health. I will also be doing the odd vlog or two, when the mood or general outrage over something inspires me to do so. I have always been quite outspoken, especially on the subjects of health, fitness, nutrition and addiction, and I am more than aware (and fully appreciate) that I am not everyone’s cup of tea. However, in my blog I intend to really get stuff off my chest. It’s not always going to be pretty and many won’t always agree with what I am saying, but such is life and the freedom of speech. Having said that, I feel many will be pleased that I am bringing an alternative and, at times, controversial voice to the arena. There is a lot of talk surrounding the underfunding of the National Health Service (NHS). It is easy for most people to jump into anger mode at politicians and scream that they aren’t doing enough, and all that’s needed is more money. I fundamentally disagree with this opinion and believe that we all, not just politicians, need to do what we can to help the NHS. Ask not what the NHS can do for you, but what YOU can do for the NHS At a later date, I plan to take a long look at who is ultimately responsible for the ‘broken NHS’ and what we all need to do, as a collective, to try and fix it and make it work – as intended. I say ‘as intended’ because when the NHS was first made available, it was very clear what it was set up to do, who it was developed to help and what
treatment it could offer. Today, seemingly almost anything can be got on the NHS and I feel it’s our collective responsibility, along with the politicians, to start doing what we can to remove some of the burden on this wonderful institution. This starts with taking some responsibility for our own health, some responsibility for what we can and are willing to pay for outside of the NHS (if able) and, moreover, for recognising that some things simply shouldn’t be funded by it. We are in a situation where much-needed cancer drugs are refused by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the NHS due to expense, while at the same time people receive ‘luxury’ treatments, costing thousands of pounds, for free. I will go into what I view as ‘luxury’ treatments in another blog and yes, it will rustle a few feathers, but I think a huge paradigm shift is needed in how the NHS is run. We also need a massive re-evaluation of what should and should not be available on the NHS. The sheer scope of treatments has risen to include a plethora of things which clearly should be paid for by individuals themselves. Things which aren’t medical emergencies or genuine preventers of future disease (and trust me, there are plenty!). On top of this, we have 'big pharma' manipulating medical drug studies in order to flood the NHS ‘market’ for huge financial gain. Tamiflu is just one example, and I will talk further about how millions of pounds of NHS money was needlessly spent on this drug and many others. The NHS is perhaps the biggest ‘customer’ of all for 'big pharma' and if they can convince the right people why their drug is absolutely necessary, then BINGO! – they’ve hit the big government money jackpot. I hope this gives you a taste of what I wish my blog to be about. In the meantime, I hope you like my new, small and simple website and that you get involved with the blog and any debate which may (no, WILL) arise from it.
Be part of the debate – read Jason’s blogs at jasonvaleofficial.com

JUICY INTERVIEW
Strictly the
best
From soap star to Strictly contestant, Gemma Atkinson loves a challenge and a daily juice keeps her on track It’s Wednesday afternoon and Gemma Atkinson has just enough time to catch up with Juiced! magazine before she heads to her next appointment, even though she’s been on the go since 4am. It’s another busy day in a neverending, crazy schedule, but she isn’t one to complain. In fact complaining doesn’t figure at all in Gemma’s make-up, which brims with positivity, gratitude and a natural care for others.
18
Inspirational women “I love Cameron Diaz’s and Kate Hudson’s openness about physical and mental health,” says Gemma. “Even though they are Hollywood stars, their attitude is refreshing and supportive of all women going through the different stages of life.”

“When you’re fuelling your body with such good nutrients, you start to feel amazing. It’s like giving yourself an MOT” 20
It’s not that she’s not ambitious, and having joined the Strictly Come Dancing class of 2017, there’s plenty of drive to achieve more than she already has since her first role as Lisa Hunter in Channel 4’s Hollyoaks in 2009. As she teams up with a pro dancer for Strictly Come Dancing, she’s also busy in her role as presenter on the Gemma, Matt and Mike Show, the primetime breakfast slot on Manchester’s radio station, Key 103. It’s a leap from her screen role as Carly Hope in Emmerdale, and several thousand miles from I’m A Celebrity..., Hollywood films and theatre, including a West End run in Calendar Girls.
“I’m loving doing radio for now,” says Gemma. “It’s Manchester’s #1 radio show and I’ve known Matt and Mike (her co-presenters) for years, so it feels very comfortable. But going into Strictly, I’m going to be putting on my stilettos and frocks and trying to compete for that glitter ball. I never thought those words would come out of my mouth. “It’s a challenge. I think you should always push yourself out of your comfort zone with stuff, and this for me is completely out of my comfort zone. I just want to have fun with it, plus you get to learn a new skill, so I’m going to take the opportunity and run with it. My aim is not to go out first. I would

love to get to the final, absolutely. For me learning to dance itself is a milestone, so if I come away from the experience being able to say I can dance, then that itself is great.” So, with a gruelling three-month schedule of Strictly rehearsals and performances ahead, and having taken to headphones and microphone like a proverbial duck to water, is acting on the back burner for Gemma? “No definitely not,” she says emphatically. “If an opportunity comes along, you’ve got to grab it with both hands. I definitely felt the radio show gave me the chance to try something different, but I am 1,000 per cent not giving up on acting.
“On the surface, acting looks glamorous but it’s hard graft. I’m still working hard and am on the go from 4am, five days a week. I’m enjoying the experience of radio, but I love acting. “Since doing the radio show, I have a new routine – once we come off air and have our after-show meeting, I head to the gym, four times a week, for an hour. I can then jump on the train to London to meet my agent if I need to, or to meet up with friends, but I have to be in bed by 9.30pm so I can get up at 4am!”
Healthy passion
Whatever the challenge, Gemma tackles everything she does with bags of enthusiasm, and works hard to maintain the stamina a career in show business demands. Passionate about fitness and nutrition, Gemma is in great shape, boosted by a recent stay at Juicy Oasis – her third visit since it opened. “I love it,” she says. “The scenery is breathtaking and I have the chance to switch off and unwind. We never know how hectic life is until we stop. To not have to think about anything and to be able to relax is sheer bliss. “I love the yoga classes, walks and hikes at Juicy Oasis, and when you’re fuelling your body with such good nutrients, you start to feel amazing. It’s like giving yourself an MOT and I think you need to give your digestion a rest at least once a year. “I had juiced before I visited Juicy Oasis, but I didn’t really understand it properly. Now I juice every day, even on holiday, and take one to the radio show to have mid-morning, which keeps me going to lunchtime. “Juicy Oasis gets better and better and, having stayed when it was brand new, it’s been brilliant to see it flourish. Jason has worked so hard and the team are passionate about what they do. Lots of people I chat with are on their second or third visit, which I think is proof of the value of a stay.

“This time I visited with my mum and her husband, and they loved it too – they lost 10lbs each and thought it was fabulous, they’ll definitely be back.” Family and home life are important to Gemma, who is more than happy to switch her LBD for nights in. “I’m a home girl at heart,” she says. “I love going to my mum’s and sister’s and hanging out with her kids. I would like children at some point, perhaps the other side of 35, but I like my life at the moment. Glitzy events are hard work and while I have to go for work, it’s a hassle to figure out what to
Having modelled in her early career and been voted sexiest ever I’m A Celebrity… star, Gemma isn’t one to let the glamorous side of show business go to her head. “It’s flattering but I take it with a pinch of salt,” she says. “Health is more important and I always believe if your heart’s strong and your head’s in a good place, you’re fine. “Fitness has always been important to me – I ran for Manchester Harriers & Athletics Club as a girl, and I wanted to be Jet from Gladiators when I was growing up. I had planned to study sports therapy, but I landed the role in Hollyoaks and that shaped the direction of my life. It was a pivotal role for me, so I have no regrets and I’ll always be grateful to the show. “Exercise is important to me and I love helping women realise their potential with boxing, which I love. I don’t want to do a DVD or sell a product, but encouraging others is rewarding and I may take it further at some point. I always tell people to be patient and consistent as there are no quick fixes. You have to see fitness and good nutrition as lifestyle choices. Know your limits and your strengths and be kind to yourself, be human. Have a pizza, but get back on it…” It’s Gemma’s healthy, balanced outlook that makes her a hit with fans on social media who adore posts from her daily life. She uses her channels to raise awareness of animal welfare and is president of Lancashire’s Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary. “As long as everyone around me is OK, that’s what’s important. I never like to plan ahead too much or put myself under too much pressure. I enjoy living in the moment and I think that’s the best way to get the most out of life.” ■

Meanwhile... prepare the layers Remove the ends from the courgettes and cut lengthways into thin slices (about 0.5 cm thick). Place them in a dish and drizzle with the olive oil, turning so all are coated.
GRIDDLE
Heat a griddle or frying pan and cook the courgette strips over a high heat, turning regularly until they are cooked on both sides (you will need to do this in batches). If these are ready before the sauce, just allow to cool.
Meanwhile... make the cheese sauce
Add the filtered water, goat's cheese, mustard and salt to the cashew ‘flour’ in the hand-blender container and blitz for 10-20 seconds until it forms a smooth sauce.
Assemble
Place a layer of courgettes on the bottom of the baking dish (cut to size if needed). Next create a second layer using half of the tomato sauce, followed by a third layer using half of the cheese sauce. Repeat with the remaining ingredients and finish with the ground black pepper.
Cook
Pop in the oven and cook for 15 minutes or until the lasagne starts to brown.

I have always loved bangers and mash, but since leaving ‘mystery food’ behind (what’s in the average meat sausage? Exactly, it’s a mystery!) I had to find another way of getting the wonderful classic tastes of this dish. Now making a good veggie sausage isn’t as easy as it may appear and it took me a while to get this right. What I will say is, if making your own veggie sausages seems like a little too much faff for you, feel free to go and grab some good ready–made ones. Whatever route you go, a good veggie sausage on a bed of sweet potato mash with some red onion gravy is one classic you won’t want to miss.

If only Rachel from Friends had had this version to hand, she’d never have put mince in the trifle (sorry if you’re not a Friends fan!). This is a true British classic; it’s one of those extremely comforting dishes which immediately transport you back to childhood and makes you want to curl up on the sofa with a good book.

Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F/ gas mark 6). Remove the ends and skin from the onion, garlic and potatoes and dice the ingredients. Chop the tomatoes and mushrooms into small cubes. Remove the end from the leek and slice thinly. Drain and rinse the beans.

Place the potatoes in a pan, cover with the boiling water and boil for 15 minutes until soft. Whilst the potatoes are cooking, heat the remaining olive oil in a frying pan and cook the leeks for 3 minutes until it softens and starts to brown.
MAKE THE MASH
Once the potatoes are cooked, drain away the water, return the potatoes to the warm pan, add the salt and pepper and mash. Then add the cooked leek, gently combine and replace the lid.
THICKEN
Once the vegetables have cooked for 15 minutes they will have released their juices. At this point add the stock cube, stir well to ensure it is totally dissolved and continue to cook for a further 5 minutes with the lid off using a stickblender pulse for just 6 seconds, so that some of the sauce is blended to create a thicker sauce, but the majority is still in its original form. If you don’t have a stick blender, you can blend 4 tbsps in a regular blender and then return to the pan and mix well.
CREATE
Pour the filling into an ovenproof dish, cover with the mash and leek topping and pop in the oven for 15 minutes to brown.

This chilli is hot, healthy and hearty. Beans themselves are so filling and ‘meaty’ in their own right, that even an avid carnivore might not notice the absence of the meat. I would recommend making a double batch of the chilli and popping half in the freezer, ready for a delicious meal on a cold winter's evening.

REAL LIFE JUICERS
My juicy story Health reclaimed and out of the rat race! Meet two inspiring readers whose lives have been transformed by the power of juice When Juiced! magazine reader Danielle Drayton won a trip for two to Juicy Mountain, Jason’s Turkish retreat, in our launch issue, she had no idea it would be a life-changing experience. But the power of juice often surprises people. Danielle and her husband Rhys first heard Juice Master Jason Vale when he spoke at a seminar alongside personal-
development maestro Tony Robbins. Inspired by Jason’s talk, the couple immediately went home and watched Super Juice Me!, his groundbreaking documentary. Having suffered from ulcerative colitis for ten years, Danielle knew she had to start to juice. Embarking upon a seven-day plan, boosted by cabbage shots, the

couple were quickly hooked on this amazing source of liquid nutrition. Danielle’s colitis was soon in remission and amazingly her prescription medication was reduced from 12 to one tablet per day, and she ceased to need anti-inflammatory injections for her condition.
Spiritual experience
As part of her juicy journey, Danielle picked up a copy of Juiced! magazine

and saw our competition to win a trip. “I imagined how amazing it would be to stay at Juicy Mountain with that incredible view, and to learn so much from professionals for a week in peace and quiet,” says Danielle. “When I received the email saying we had won, I couldn’t believe it and I felt a mixture of sheer joy, excitement and shock. “I was a bit nervous before we left, in case we wouldn’t be able to handle all of the exercise and activities on offer at the retreat, but as soon as we arrived and I met the team I relaxed. Chatting with other guests, I realised almost half of them had been previously and that put

“On day one I got my first taste of rebounding, which is now my favourite exercise. I also played volleyball for the first time, which I loved, and we were both surprised by how the more exercise we did, the more energised we felt. “Rhys and I had decided that as we had been given this amazing opportunity, we were going to do every activity on the schedule and give it everything we had. We tackled ‘The Climb’, which has a bit of a reputation as a tough challenge, and at the beginning of the week we completed it in a respectable 1hr 2mins. We were determined to beat this and, although it was really hard, we shaved 11 minutes off our time on our second attempt, which was a huge achievement. “We enjoyed a fantastic juice workshop and experienced delicious real fresh lemonade made by the team, and both Rhys and I started to crave juices – we couldn’t believe that we didn’t feel hungry at all. In fact our first meal before we left Göcek was an avocado salad, and we couldn’t finish it! “At the retreat we also got to try
meditation, which I was a bit nervous about as I didn’t know how to and thought I wouldn’t be any good, but it turns out no one is really amazing at it! Thoughts will always come into your head, but it’s about recognising this and refocusing on your breathing. “Juicy Mountain is a truly magical, spiritual place and I was able to empty my mind, forget about the world back home, focus and relax. One day a member of the team read a poem at the ‘Limestone Mountain’, which made me cry – I felt so moved and lucky to experience such a special moment.
Make a wish
“Experiencing a holiday where you interact with other people so much was new to us, and one we definitely want to repeat. On the last day we all made a wish on the ledge, overlooking the incredible view from the mountain, and mine was to return to Juicy Mountain every year from now on. “Back in the UK, I came home to find my clothes looser and we had both lost eight pounds over the week. I felt stronger and leaner and had so much energy and vitality. We have continued to eat clean and juice every day, and we have no intention of stopping!” ■
Path to freedom
Downloading Jason’s Stop Smoking in 2 Hours app quite literally changed Jenny Thomas’ life...

MY JUICE JOURNEY
Procrastination is one of the biggest obstacles to having the life we want, and for Jenny Thomas the decision to finally listen to Jason Vale’s Stop Smoking in 2 Hours app was the catalyst for change. Having downloaded the app six months previously, Jenny was desperate to quit the habit and in February 2014 finally committed a mere 120 minutes to breaking her addiction for good.
“Jason’s app was the catalyst for change and I would never have gone to Juicy Oasis without it” “It only took a couple of hours and, like so many things, once I’d done it I couldn’t believe how easy it was,” says Jenny. “That was it, I had jumped on my path to freedom. I didn’t realise at the time just how much would change, following that day.” Freed from addiction, a few weeks later Jenny experienced a setback when she tore her calf muscle playing netball. “It might seem hard to believe but this was catastrophic to me. I have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), so eating healthily and exercising play a massive part in managing the condition. Unable to exercise, I gained nearly a stone in weight.
Best foot forwards
“A friend suggested a visit to Juicy Oasis and I decided to book a stay. The first few days, my body and mind went into a state of shock. Apart from netball, I hadn’t done any real exercise in years and my lungs were those of a 30-40-a-day smoker, so I found the exercise pretty tough but also really good fun and it helped me work out some of my frustrations. I noticed the difference that the pure nutritious goodness of juice had on my body too.” Along with the physical effects of the Juicy Oasis programme, Jenny felt a shift in mindset during her retreat. “I’m not sure if it was one moment
or lots of things coming together but I had the realisation that my life was not what I wanted it to be and I was really unhappy,” continues Jenny. “It was hard as I’d had a successful marketing career over 20 years and held a senior position in a global company. I knew I needed to get off the treadmill, take back control of my life and start living the life that I wanted. “If you’ve never experienced a week-long juicing detox it might sound strange, but I hit a ‘juicy high’. I have honestly never felt so energised, alive, positive and unstoppable. After one amazing walk, I started thinking about what I could do to build the life I wanted, and it was definitely one with juice in it! I started to focus on what makes me happy – work that is rewarding and fulfilling; listening, understanding and helping people to make their dreams become reality. It took a while to make the transition but

Juicy Oasis was the best thing I could ever have done for my body and mind – it changed everything for me.” Having launched Revitalise Coaching (revitalisecoaching.co.uk), Jenny is about to celebrate her first year as a confidence and career coach. “I took out a year to train and qualified as a NLP practitioner and personal-performance coach. Jason’s app was the catalyst for change and I would never have gone to Juicy Oasis without it. Earlier this year I walked the Jurassic Coast for Macmillan Cancer Support and I’m going to walk up Mount Snowdon in a few weeks. I’m finally living the life I want.” ■

INGREDIENT FOCUS
BEANIE BABIES
LEND A HAND FOR LENTILS
Beans, beans, good for… Well, you know the rest, and fibre certainly is important, but a cup of cooked beans also offers around 15g of protein. Use them to make veggie meatballs or burgers, or as a substitute for a meat-based pasta sauce.
Considered a starchy protein, a cup of lentils provides 18g of protein along with plenty of fibre and carbohydrates. Add cooked, spiced lentils to rice or quinoa for an extra dimension to a tasty meal.
GO NUTS
SOW A SEED
Almonds, cashews, walnuts and pistachios are rich in minerals, vitamin E and healthy fats, and offer 7-9g of protein per quarter cup. Top cereals or a salad with nuts for nutritional crunch, make your own nut butter or use as a ‘flour’ in gluten-free baking.
KEEN ON QUINOA
A gluten-free grain (and technically a seed), quinoa contains carbohydrates, fibre and 7-9g of protein in every half cooked cup. Use it as a base for a stir-fry, grain-based salad or porridge. Try quinoa flour for gluten-free baking too.
Seeds pack a nutritional punch and with a variety of flavours (sunflower, sesame, chia, hemp, flax and pumpkin), add them to your diet in the same way as nuts. Throw a handful on a salad and take green leaves to the next level with 30g of protein per 100g.
SUPER SOY
Tempeh, tofu and edamame are soy superstars, packed with fibre, healthy fats and – you guessed it – plenty of protein. In fact a single half cup serving contains 20g! Seek out organic varieties and add to stir-fries and salads or marinate for extra flavour.

Cucurb-it! Vegetables from the squash family such as sweet butternut and fleshy courgette are so versatile. Courgette’s mellow taste makes it great for juicing and the meaty texture of both courgette and butternut makes them perfect candidates for spiralising or adding substance to main dishes too. This refreshing juice will take you right back to summer with an uplifting hit of ginger to awaken the senses. Courgettes are a good source of potassium, manganese, magnesium, vitamins A, C and K and folate.
Juice first: Sooo Cool ’n’ Sooo Zingy Courgette 2cm chunk Fresh ginger root 1cm chunk Cucumber 1/4 medium Unwaxed lemon 1/4 (peeled)
Celery 1/2 stalk Fennel 2cm chunk Golden Delicious apples 2 Ice cubes 1 small handful
Peel the lemon, leaving as much of the white pith as possible to make the juice more nutritious, and then juice along with the rest of the ingredients. Either pour the juice into a glass over ice or, for a cooler juice, pop the lot in a blender with the ice and whizz to perfection. Taken from The Funky Fresh Juice Book

Flower power Cauliflower is now at its best and makes a perfect substitute for rice or couscous. Perhaps because the most commonly recognised variety is the white cauliflower, it is wrongly judged to be less nutrient-rich than greener members of the brassicaceae family such as broccoli and cabbage, although research tells us otherwise. Sulfur-containing glucosinolates found in the white vegetable are believed to support the digestive, immune and cardiovascular systems. On a chilly autumn evening, this ‘oh so good for you’ curry will satisfy and soothe when only a hearty bowl will hit the spot. Rich in anti-inflammatory nutrients including vitamin K, this knobbly vegetable is a star ‘super food’.
Super recipe: Butternut Squash, Chilli, Ginger, Lime & Coconut Curry on a Bed of Cauliflower ‘Rice’ Butternut squash 1/2 medium Red onion 1/2 medium Garlic 2 cloves Red chilli 1 medium Ginger 1" Lime 1 Coconut oil 1 tbsp Coconut milk 400ml/14 fl oz Turmeric 1/2 tsp
Cauliflower ‘Rice’ Cauliflower 1 large Olive oil 1 tbsp Himalayan rock salt 1 pinch Ground black pepper 1 generous pinch
Peel the butternut squash, remove the seeds and cut into bite-sized chunks. Peel and thinly slice the red onion, garlic and chilli (remove the seeds). Peel and cut the ginger into matchstick strips. Cut the lime in half. Put the coconut oil in a wok or large frying pan and place over a medium heat. Add the butternut squash and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the onion, chilli and garlic and cook for 10 minutes. Add the coconut milk and turmeric and squeeze the lime into the pan. Reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove the leaves from the cauliflower and cut into quarters. Place in a processor and pulse until it is broken down and resembles cooked rice. Alternatively, using the large holes, grate the cauliflower. Put the olive oil in a pan over medium heat, add the cauliflower, salt and pepper and cook for 5 minutes stirring frequently. Serve the curry and rice in a bowl. Taken from Jason Vale’s 5:2 Juice Diet

INGREDIENT FOCUS
SOWyour OATS Don’t let this store-cupboard staple linger at the back of the larder; they can offer far more than a bland, stodgy bowl on cold winter mornings. Oats are incredibly versatile and packed with goodness, so dig in! Perfect start
There’s no better breakfast than oats to set you up for the day. Sweet, savoury, hot or cold, there are unlimited ways to add pizazz and enjoy these carbohydrate-based whole grains. Containing beta-glucan, a soluble fibre which dissolves in the gut forming a thick, gel-type substance, oats give a fuller feeling for longer and offer great slow-release energy. It is this beta-glucan which is also thought to make oats good for reducing cholesterol and lowering the risk of heart disease.
Power-packed
High in carbohydrates and fibre, oats contain more protein than most cereals as well as a high proportion of important vitamins and minerals, including manganese which is essential for bone health. This antioxidant grain is also a good source of iron, zinc and vitamin B6, which all help to support a
healthy immune system. A number of studies have also explored the benefits of the unique antioxidant compound avenanthramide which is found in oats and is believed to aid further the prevention of cardiovascular disease. It’s hardly surprising that experts say that oats are one of the most nutrient-rich foods you can eat!
Good for skin
These über-useful little grains can also be found in a number of skincare products, so you could be excused for moisturising straight from the cereal bowl. Finely ground and applied directly, oats can help soothe dry, itchy, irritated skin, including conditions such as eczema and chickenpox. Try adding a cup of ground oats to a warm bath to soothe body and relax mind, combined with a little essential oil. It would be hard to find another cereal that provides such a wholesome fix, inside and out.

The greatest nutritional magic trick of all
How to turn five portions of fruit and veg into one, with a blender – Juice Master Jason Vale questions the absurdity of eating rules
52 36
JASON ON...
Have you ever started a new juice plan only to hear the critics – often our nearest and dearest – circle with doubts and negativity? It’s not that they want to put us off better nutrition, but the ‘risk’ is that we could eat too many fruit and vegetables. Here’s how the scenarios typically go, and here’s why they are nonsensical arguments against the unarguable benefits of juicing.
Have you checked with your GP that it’s ok to juice for a week? This makes no sense. I have never heard of anyone who has said to their friends, 'So, I have decided to go to Vegas for a week, get absolutely s**t faced, eat a lot of crap, do no exercise and be out every night until late,' to be met with a reply of, 'I think you should ask your GP if it’s safe to do so.' Yet the moment you tell them you’re having green juices – BOOM! 'Oh, I don’t think that’s a good idea, have you checked with your doctor?' How have we reached this stage? We are experiencing the worst obesity and lifestyle illness epidemic in history. One which no medical or dietetic person would dispute would be massively improved if we consumed more fruits and vegetables. A major study into the effect of fruits and vegetables on disease was published by Imperial College London in 2017. It calculated that if we increased our intake of fruits and vegetables to ten portions a day, it could prevent 7.8 million premature deaths a year. It also identified specific fruits and vegetables which reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease. I can’t understand why anyone, especially the medical profession, would discourage anything which gets more fruits and vegetables into a person. Yet the government guideline states:
Juicing can only ever count as one portion of fruit or vegetable The National Health Service's (NHS) website states, at the time of writing: Do juices and smoothies count
towards my five-a-day? Unsweetened 100 per cent fruit juice, vegetable juice and smoothies can only ever count as a maximum of one portion of your five-a-day. For example, if you have two glasses of fruit juice and a smoothie in one day, that still only counts as one portion. Your combined total of drinks from fruit juice, vegetable juice and smoothies should not be more than 150ml a day – which is a small glass. For example, if you have 150ml of orange juice and 150ml of smoothie in one day, you'll have exceeded the recommendation by 150ml. Future generations will look back at this stage in human development and be unable to figure out how this advice ever appeared on a government advice website. A portion is 80g or 3oz – in real terms, a small banana, pear, three heaped tablespoons of peas or a large handful of spinach. How is it possible that if I place these into a blender and make a smoothie that I have reduced the four portions to one portion?! This is a magic trick worthy of a David Copperfield show. In fact it’s even more crazy in the case of blending (or smoothie making) as the fruit/vegetable is whole, so how, if you put say five portions into a smoothie, does it turn into one because you’ve blended it? Does that mean if you chew your whole fruits and vegetables when eating them, they also only count as one portion no matter how many you eat? After all, you have chewed them – which is all the blender did!
This argument doesn’t stand up when talking about juicing either. Yes, a juicer extracts the insoluble fibre from fruits and vegetables but this does not feed the body – it cannot penetrate the intestinal wall, so how can you lose nutrition you wouldn’t have received in the first place? All freshly extracted juices contain pectin, a soluble fibre, so to say juices have no fibre is false. I would go further and argue that in freshly extracted juice form, the nutrition is more bio-available – meaning more nutrition gets to where it’s needed.
If you have ten portions of fruits and vegetables in juice or blend form, it does count as your five-aday I don’t care if any qualified dietician or medical practitioner says otherwise. How can you have a study where Dr. Dagfinn Aune, one of the researchers, writes: 'Fruit and vegetables have been shown to reduce cholesterol levels and blood pressure and boost the health of our blood vessels and immune system. This may be due to the complex network of nutrients they hold. For instance, they contain many antioxidants, which may reduce DNA damage and lead to a reduction in cancer risk,' yet we still have government guidelines which discourage a method for getting more of the good stuff in your body? If you're a happy camper eating ten portions of fruits and vegetables daily in a wide spectrum of colours, feel free to skip the juicing and blending and munch away. Equally, if you know that juicing and blending are the only ways to achieve this, ignore the naysayers of every description (including the ‘qualified’ ones) and do so to your heart’s content. I know I will. ■
It is only the juice in the fibres that feed you

If the only time you break into a jog is as the bus pulls up when you're late for work, or you think trainers are just a comfy alternative to heels, you probably don’t think running is for you. But anyone can be a runner – there’s a faster you just waiting to get, set, go… Wherever you look these days, you’ll see a runner, pounding the roadside. It’s the sport of the moment, making us aspire to be hip and healthy, but for many of us who have watched marathons in awe, running still seems out of reach. Yet, according to England Athletics, there are more than 2.4 million of us taking part in weekly athletic activities such as running and with the help of campaigns such as This Girl Can and the NHS' Couch to 5K (C25K) this is steadily increasing. It is a fallacy that a runner is a certain type of person, and blogger Julie Creffield of toofattorun. co.uk – The Fat Girls' Guide to Running is out to prove the point. She and an army of plus-size women (as she describes them on her website) probably don’t fit the preconceived physical description of a runner but share a passion for
the sport and are (whatever their shape or size) athletes in their own right. She rejects the idea that there is one type of runner, encouraging anyone to get out there and have a go. It's a philosophy that Jason and the Juice Master team believe in too, encouraging everyone to make a start on improving their fitness and health. Setting out from a standing start can be daunting, whether you've previously been a runner or are a jogging virgin. C25K (www.C25K.com) is a fantastic programme aimed at anyone looking to take their first trainer-clad steps to fitness. Designed to take you from a fairly sedentary lifestyle to running for 30 minutes, non-stop, in just nine weeks, it follows the walk/run method, building up both the distance and seconds you spend running over the course of the plan.

MIND, BODY & SPIRIT
Good for your physical and mental wellbeing, running can lower the risk of serious illnesses such as heart disease. The benefits of regular aerobic exercise to help relieve stress and positively boost our mood as our bodies release endorphins has been well-documented. Some runners even claim the feeling is addictive! Why not see for yourself what running can do for you? Take your first steps today…
BEFORE YOU START Running is a relatively inexpensive sport, but if there is one thing worth investing in it’s proper footwear. Specialist running shops will assess your style on a treadmill and match you with a suitable shoe. SET A GOAL Having something to aim for is a brilliant way to stay motivated and give you a reason to improve. Start with a 5k fun run where there isn’t the pressure of a formal race, but enough of a challenge to make you train – most will reward you with a shiny new medal for your efforts. GET SUPPORT A running buddy can be great motivation and help keep you focused as you spur each other on. If you don’t have anyone to run with, find a local club that suits your needs – most will have sessions designed for new runners. If you would prefer to run alone, download an app such as C25K to use as your virtual coach. BUILD UP SLOWLY The key thing to remember is that it’s not a race. Well, it might be one day but for now you’re training your body to a new way of working. Always take time to warm up and down properly – it’s the most crucial part of your run.
56
Slowly building up muscle and stamina will not only be better for your health but also give you a more holistic approach to your end goal. STAY MOTIVATED Try keeping a running diary or blogging about your experience to keep your mind on track – 20 per cent of London Marathon runners kept a blog this year. As hard as it can seem to muster the enthusiasm for a run when the evening’s dull and damp or the telly schedule looks appealing, make the effort and you will be glad you did. STAY HYDRATED We all know the importance of H2O during exercise; make sure you drink plenty of water to replace valuable hydration lost through perspiration. Now, go, go, go...

MIND, BODY & SPIRIT
W
hy on earth are you reading this article? Sit with this for a few minutes… May I share with you a yogic secret: the universe, which asks nothing of you, through yoga does require one action from you. That is you be absolutely honest with yourself. Be honest about your feelings and fears, your actions and intentions, the whole lot. Mind will arise there, mind will impose the vision, the description, the thought of how things should be. Mind then correlates the gap between what is and how things should be. From this festering ground of discontent arises the ‘ambitious one’. This is the one who plots all you have to do to set your world to rights. Have you noticed how demanding and relentless this one is? It smiles brightly and promises much, such as how great life will be when, and only when, yet there is much to be done for this ‘only when’ to be arrived at. Have you noticed that you do not ever arrive? You do not see the ‘ambitious one’ clearly, because you are unwittingly mesmerised by it and collapse into assuming it as your identity.
Enquire within
Yoga shows the way and it does not take much to step back from it and rest as the essence of being. From this non-involved, wide-open perspective it is easy to see how aggressive and controlling the ‘ambitious one’ is. It might even be described as sinister and vicious. Often, it will not let you rest. You do not see this because you first allow yourself to be seduced by it and you seem to become it. It knows no true rest and it knows no peace.
Yes, the ‘ambitious one’ does throw you crumbs along your path. It will humour you with achievements, success, status. It may even fit you into a Little Black Dress. As spiritual pretence, it may create the illusion that you are ‘living in the moment’, or convince you that you are ascending consciousness. It will conjure up all kinds of false stories to appease you, yet most certainly such satisfaction will be short-lived. Even if you have the wherewithal to feel or say ‘thank you’ soon you will become dissatisfied. Therein begins the process of the rug being pulled under your feet. Saying ‘thank you’ may have helped fly the magic carpet of desire a little longer, but magic carpets cannot fly on autopilot.
Joy to the world
It is easy to be thankful for the pleasant things in life, yet are you on detox? In your decision to detox, have you noted certain things you do not want in your life? Is it 7lbs of excess weight, a ‘bad back’, sluggish digestion, a stressed mind or darkness within? Is there that within you for which you are not thankful, that you must clear before you are satisfied? May I suggest as an experiment that you practise gratitude for everything in life. Who is that one within you which has the wisdom, courage and equanimity to see everything as it is and without consequence, refrain from defining things as good, bad, beautiful, ugly or indifferent? Discover this and absolute peace, contentment and tranquility are endlessly and effortlessly available to you. Simply in just being, you will exude a sense of gratitude, joy and love for life. I am not suggesting becoming an inert spiritual vegetable; being around ‘juicy people’ is not a safe place for vegetables to be.
No pretence
In fact this contented one is very useful and effective at getting done that which needs to be done. Just as important, it is also clear about what does not need doing. In truth it has no vested interest at all. It is secure in and as itself and does not seek recognition for its achievements. Karma Yoga suggests that action in ‘doing without desire for the fruits of the action’ lets you follow a path towards liberation, possibly enlightenment. It is natural to always be demanding. Personality as the ‘mini-me’ is very calculating, constantly choosing where to invest energy. With that comes the anxious state of needing return on investment. Can you observe such tendencies in your life? Gratitude is useful; in the moment of being gracious, you practise awareness. This may help realise the innate aware state. Awakening this is one of the most natural, restful and profound yoga paths. Reverting to my question: Why on earth are you reading this article? In doing so is the vibration (Sankalpa) of your being resonating as the fullness of life, joyousness and contentment. The Sanscrit word Santosha, meaning contentment, is one of the early pillars upon which yoga practice is founded. Discover this. I have not referred to ingratitude or being ungrateful. Well, the endless sky is the space of stardust, from which every atom of you has been birthed. Infinity is your Cosmic Mother. And what does a mother have in store for an ungrateful child? Love, yet likely fewer presents. If it is presents you desire, you can try to play the game of gratitude. The Cosmic Mother knows what is going on. We cannot fool her. As Cat Stevens says, ‘There is no need to pretend!’ ■

It may not win you over with its looks, but the beauty of this unattractive fleshy herb lies deep within. We explore the magic mojo root… Prized for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine, ginseng is now thought to be one of the most popular herbal remedies in the world. Belonging to the botanical genus ‘Panax’, meaning ‘all healing’ in Greek, this hairy-looking root is revered across the globe for its medicinal properties, said to aid everything from diabetes to alleviating menstrual pain and even fighting major diseases. Characterised by its forked shape, said to resemble a pair of legs, the word ginseng stems from the Chinese ‘Ren Shen,' translated as ‘root man’, which is why it is often referred to as the ‘king of herbs’. This royal title was mirrored by the status it held with the ancient emperors of China who revered it more than gold. Historically, one of its main properties was its use as an aphrodisiac – the more human-like the form, the more potent it was said to be.
More than 5,000 years on, it is this stimulating quality which makes ginseng one of the most favoured herbs to turn to when the oomph has left the bedroom. Modern studies have explored the benefits of the herb as a natural remedy for men suffering from erectile dysfunction. Experts have also found that antioxidants within the root may help to alleviate fatigue, boost concentration and reduce stress, all of which can zap our energy levels. It may even provide a kick to the immune system, with trials ongoing to establish its efficacy in this area. When it comes to enduring the 9-5 grind, it’s little wonder ginseng is the 'go to' natural pick-me-up. Pukka Herbs' Wholistic Red Ginseng uses a concentration of the finest parts of red ginseng root for maximum benefit. Q&A
ask
Jason
Ever wondered what the Juice Master’s life is like? We asked your questions to find out what makes him tick
WHAT JUICE RECIPE ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF CREATING?
WHAT ARE YOU MAKING FOR DINNER TONIGHT? Well you’ve caught me while I am in test phase for my new programme, Super Blend Me!, so it’s a blend for dinner for me! I am doing the full 21 days of the Super Blend Me! Challenge and I’m on day 18 as I write. I am already planning my first meal and it’s going to be the mint pea risotto from my Super fast Food cookbook for sure!
DO YOU DO YOUR OWN SUPERMARKET SWEEP AND, IF SO, WHAT ARE YOUR SHOPPING-BASKET ESSENTIALS? Yes. Juicing staples are the usual big guns – cucumber, celery, raw beetroot, spinach, apples, pears, carrots, lemons and limes, while the blending big guns would include coconut and almond milk, coconut water, kale, avocados, bananas, almond butter, cashew butter, berries, mango, seeds and nuts. You’ll see things like wholemeal pitta breads, German rye bread, fresh salmon, salad leaves, rocket, sunblush tomatoes, rice, quinoa, buckwheat, feta cheese and crackers of some kind. You might find the odd Gü dessert or a block of cheese – we are all human after all!
64
The original Turbo Charge Smoothie. All of the juice pioneers I read never introduced avocado into their meal replacements and I wondered why. It seemed they were into juicing and only juicing, whereas I am a big believer in juicing and blending. Katie Price also made this smoothie ‘famous’ over a decade ago when she first did my 7lbs in 7 Days Juice Diet. It is my ‘go to’ main green blend and it just has the perfect balance of nutrition whilst being slightly sweet and creamy, with an earthy edge!
YOU’VE HAD SOME AMAZING ACHIEVEMENTS OVER THE YEARS, BUT WHICH ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF, AND WHY? There are many so it’s genuinely hard to choose. I’d have to say the building of Juicy Oasis. This was a mammoth undertaking, especially with no experience in hotels, building or having the money to actually do the project. It was the hardest project, which made it the most rewarding. However, by the time some read this article, there may well have been another goal fulfilled which usurps this one.
Q&A
IF YOU CAN’T GET TO A GYM, HOW DO YOU WORK EXERCISE INTO YOUR DAY? I am extremely lucky. I have organised my life so that I always have access to some way of doing exercise. I am currently into spinning and have a really good Stages bike at home, as well as having a dome full of them at Juicy Oasis in Portugal (my second home). When I’m not spinning, and when my hamstring now allows, you’ll find me bouncing on a mini trampoline. I also love sports of all kinds, especially football, volleyball and tennis, which I get to play when at the retreat.
TELL US A SECRET ABOUT YOURSELF. Then it wouldn’t be a secret, so by definition I can’t really answer that.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE TASTE/ FLAVOUR? That’s like asking your fave film, it all depends on mood. I think I’m the same as most people, I like sweet, savoury and earthy, it just all depends on the moment.
DEAD OR ALIVE, WHO WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO ENJOY A JUICE WITH? Almost impossible to answer. There are many people I’d like to do dinner with, I'm unsure if they’d all want to have a fresh juice though! Elvis, clearly, the true king of rock 'n’ roll, would be super cool to share a juice with, but I think he’d have preferred something slightly stronger. I’d also love to share a juice and kick a ball with David Beckham, Robbie Williams, James Corden and Rod Stewart.
IF YOU COULD ONLY TAKE ONE GADGET ON YOUR DESERT ISLAND, WHICH WOULD IT BE AND WHY? Well, oddly, I wouldn’t take a juicer (no electricity may be an issue!) so I think it would have to be a jet ski, which makes far more sense.
TECH-FAN OR TECHNOPHOBE? WHAT HI-TECH ITEM COULD YOU NOT LIVE WITHOUT? Like most people I couldn’t live without my phone. I say phone, what I mean is my portable mini computer. I travel a great deal and my phone and mini MacBook are my must-haves at all times. I’m always writing, dealing with emails or replying to social media questions/posts, so these are two amazing pieces of tech which I’d be lost without.
WHICH REALITY TV SHOW WOULD YOU LOVE TO APPEAR ON? I was asked to be on Celebrity Big Brother once, but I’d rather pluck my nasal hairs with a fish fork! I’d be useless on I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! because I’d be cool with just having the rice and beans they provide, so I’d definitely have to skip all the trials. I’d have to think hard if I were ever offered Strictly Come Dancing. I used to breakdance as a teenager, but that’s hardly Latin ballroom! I’m also unsure if I’d ever have the time but, of all the reality shows, that’s probably the only one I’d even think about doing.
