Analysis
An institutional building design is challenged to transcend from its utilitarian spaces and rituals into assemblies for shared experiences of a community that can encapsulate the imaginative and unexpected spatial and experiential forms.
Design
Brief
An architecture that hosts a diversified range of events, programs and essentials to nurture a purposeful sharing and caring environment with a specific culture. A positive-driven centre that reflects a collegial ethos based on an understanding of the spatial and experiential connections by culturing A Symbiotic Architecture also known as [...] So that it can correspond with the community in the context of contemporary Singapore. The challenge is to re-imagine an all-embracing and empowering composition of human experiences with the site of Project [...].building’s programmes, the building’s formal expression and spaces that involve and revolve meaningful aspects of a community.
A site analysis done virtually at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, my sub-group was in charge of the Musuem District of the Civic & Cultural District. Through this, we discovered more about the site, its history and myriad of facilities and programmes that enriches it. Although this particular Site Analysis was a challenge due to the circuit breaker restrictions, it allowed us to push ourselves in terms of researching, analysing and understanding the site through only the information available online.

Insights Group Vision Statement An institutional [...] that facilitates the integration and sharing of different socio-cultural environments. To foster a community that coexists with one another. A community in which the historical narrative can be the common foundation/identity as well as the catalyst for the fostering of new experiences.
Individual Reflection One thing that amazes me about this site is its history and how it still carries the essence of the Jackson Plan, as the current landscape of Sub-Div 5 is shaped by it. This historical aspect should be conserved but one should also not neglect the future developments that can put a spark back in this division. In order to draw locals, we need to think from an approach that is local-centric, that complements the site typology and add value to it, with considerations to the pandemic climate.

VISION A nation of lifelong learners; a society that values skills mastery
MODULA is a lifelong learning centre where adult learners can upgrade their skillsets in a condusive and a effective learning environment. Combining the site’s proximity to the city and its unique typology allows for an ideal learning space to be created. Reinforced by its modular framework that also acts as a structural system, MODULA both complements the site and contrasts it. The staggering of voids allows for outdoor spaces to be created, inviting in the exterior to the interior.
SkillsfutureSG was my chosen client, as I wanted to bring a learning Center closer to the city center, which will also bring back locals into the site. Furthermore, the surrounding educational institutions such as SMU can benefit from a Skillsfuture facility being in their proximity.
The modular framework enhances its spatial flexibility, for both the user experience and programmes, allowing for diverse functions to occur, making it future resilient.
