Executive Summary With the continued cold, it hardly feels as though another month has come and gone since our last update. However, unlike outside, where time seems to be standing still, I’m pleased to report quite the opposite progression within the walls of the 7th floor. For the last several weeks, crews working on 7 North have made great strides, continuing to meet and exceed our milestone target dates. Our last update marked the completion of through-floor tie-in work. Since then, finish trades have completely taken over the space. Decorative wall tile is up in almost all of the patient bathrooms. All rooms have been primed and firstcoated with paint. Flooring crews are making great headway with patient room sheet vinyl, nearly completing half of the rooms to date. Ceiling grid has been installed throughout the project, and workers are now cutting in all custom-fit acoustical tiles. Plumbers are installing fixtures, including sinks, faucets and toilets. Electricians have even started to drop in and power up final light fixtures.
Casework installation is a major ongoing activity on-site. For the past two months, the project’s casework supplier has continually delivered truck load after truck load of items to the hospital’s doorstep. To keep up with the surge, E&V currently has a small army of carpenters on-site. These skilled tradesmen are tasked with unloading, preparing, cutting and setting the hundreds of custom casework pieces. With only a few more patient rooms to complete, we are extremely pleased with the progress of this activity along with the project as a whole. Well done, to all of those involved! The Look Ahead
Looking ahead, we will soon complete the casework installation. Crews will continue to install finish goods including: flooring, wall covering, wall protection, grab bars, ceiling tiles, light fixtures and plumbing fixtures throughout the project. Did You Know? Daylight Saving Time (DST) is the practice of advancing clocks during the lighter months to balance the daylight in evenings and mornings. Earlier civilizations without “modern time” shifted their schedules on a daily basis to accommodate the solar changes. Today, since most schedules are locked to the clock, we adjust time itself. The idea of modern DST took hold in the late 1800s by individuals who simply wanted more daylight for evening production, mostly to enjoy the outdoors after work. Although initially intended for leisure activity, DST was not officially implemented until 1916 when Germany and their WWI allies adopted the practice as a method to conserve coal during the war. Recent studies have shown little evidence of DST as a large energy saver, however, interestingly enough, the simple one hour time shift causes a fascinating variety of financial and social effects.
