I really enjoy seeing the staff members when they get a sneak peek at our work. There is nothing better than seeing their eyes light up when we reach a milestone and they start to see the progress. It is a good reminder of why we work so hard.
We have completed our first phase of construction, the new Donor Floor, and we are well on our way with
Phase 2. Phase 2 consists of a new storage area, shipping corridor, meeting room, operations bullpen, offices and biohazard room. Our schedule is still on track, and we plan on completing this phase by February 6. I really appreciate the teamwork from everyone involved in this project! - Brad Giha, Project Manager bradg@elzinga-volkers.com

Good day! My name is Brad Giha, and I have taken over as Project Manager for your remodel. Along with our Field Manager, Larry Wolters, we are consistently working on the coordination and scheduling for this project. Any remodel is difficult, but when you add in the fact that operations are still running seven days a week, it can get very tricky! Through everything, the staff has been great to work with, and they make it a pleasure to be on site.

SPOTLIGHT ON SAFETY
Last week, we started demolishing a portion of the existing building, which will become new offices and a conference room. When we work right next to occupied resident space, it is critical that dust, noise and fumes are all controlled so that the rest of the building is not disrupted. Elzinga & Volkers employs many techniques to control these “necessary evils of construction including dust walls, negative air machines, air filtering and special noise controls. Although we cannot take out all the noise and dust associated with construction, we can make sure that residents are not disrupted or put in danger during our project.

Two Week Look Ahead
Next week we start our third phase of construction with light demo during the day and heavy demo Monday night. The demo will quickly be followed by framing and rough-ins for the MEPs. While the third phase is smaller in square footage, it is very intricate with a number of different rooms and finishes.

SUBCONTRACTOR
SPOTLIGHT D9 has been a great asset on this job. Changes and things that don’t match up happen on any project. However, when issues arise, D9 identifies the problem and assists us in resolving it quickly. We appreciate their dedication to this project!
