PROJECT MANAGEMENT UPDATE

Matt Wintjes Assistant Project Manager

Over the past month construction has rapidly progressed. The Kresge Addition is moving along and even though there has been a slight delay with the exterior finish of the building, all of the crews have continued to rough-in the interior of the building. All of the new resident rooms have been framed and the mechanical, electrical and plumbing rough-ins are nearing completion. It’s exciting to see that drywall is being hung and prime and first coat of paint is on the schedule for the beginning of September. The McMullen Wellness Center has been making giant strides in the productivity department with all of the block walls being erected with exterior brick following closely behind. In preparation for the pool construction, Baruzzini Contracting, the pool contractor, has been working closely with Wilbur Plumbing laying out all of the underground piping as designed. Working in the tight building footprint has required effective communication to ensure that the two piping systems are installed at their correct elevations to alleviate any interferences. Once all of the pipes are stubbed out in their correct locations the excavation and installation of the pool shell will commence. The overall site has begun to see a face-lift with the completion of the Triplett Building demolition and fine grading underway. In the upcoming month, the exterior concrete, including sidewalks and curbs, will be installed and the base course of asphalt will be following shortly thereafter. Building Together | Construction Update Newsletter UMRC - Chelsea, MI - August 2018 KRESGE EXPANSION & RENOVATIONS | UP NEXT At this point in the project, all trade contractors onsite are full steam ahead. The Triplett Building is currently being demolished and the masons are working to have the East Wing completed by the end of this month. They will then move to the West Wing with an estimated completion of the entire building by September 14th. The installation of windows and doors are closely following masonry to close the building in. Interior framing is being completed and some drywall is being hung. MEPs are out of the walls with their inspections and working in the ceilings. Fire suppression is also being installed. We are looking to start the curbs, sidewalks and asphalt base by September 24th. September and October are going to be very busy months as we bring everything together to make our turnover date in midNovember, but we are all working very hard to make that happen!

KRESGE RENOVATIONS

BENSON OFFICE BUILDING | UP NEXT The Benson Office Building is completed and turned over, but like any completion, we will be finishing a few small items in the next couple weeks. MCMULLEN WELLNESS & AQUATIC CENTER | UP NEXT We plan to start excavation of the pool the day after Labor day. The elevator was confirmed, with the 12 week fabrication timeline starting now, for delivery in November. It will take three weeks to install the elevator. Lansing Glass will soon be onsite to measure for the interior glazing around the pool, with installation planned for September. The roof is scheduled to be dried-in this week and will go on after the brick work is complete. The brick work started August 27 and will take most of September to complete both stories. Work continues on the walking deck, which we are trying to have completed by a milestone date of 10-30-18, to leave the pool deck level so we can complete the project on the inside of the building.

MCMULLEN WELLNESS & AQUATIC CENTER

We would like to recognize J & J Construction who has the contract for all the CMU and brick for this project. If you want an excellent mason, Frank Sanchez is the man for the job! He is an allaround great guy who manages the crew, mixes mortar, strikes joints, builds scaffold, stacks both block & brick, all with a smile on his face. He never gets upset and you wouldn’t even know they were onsite unless you heard their mixer running every day. He is very reliable and always has the plans with him. Great job Frank.
