BUILDING BOVEN Holland Hospital - Boven Birth Center Renovation - Construction Update Newsletter

PROJECT MANAGEMENT UPDATE With the holiday season in full swing, it’s hard to believe yet another year has passed. What is harder to believe is 2 years ago almost to the day, the construction team mobilized to begin the first phase of this project. With our sights set on the final months of construction, I feel it is important not only to look back on successes of the past month, but to reflect on the past 24 months as a whole. Daily, the construction team faces several Jared Andersen challenges and overcomes each with careful planning and attention. Project Manager From mechanical shutdowns, times of crowded site logistics along with JaredA@elzinga-volkers.com phasing, sub-phasing and off-hour work this project has always required the “right” individuals. As we come into the holiday season and reflect on the things we are grateful for the “right” construction team is certainly on that list. Thank you for all your hard work and we look forward to beginning the new year with a final push towards project completion. On behalf of EV, we wish you and your families a great and safe holiday season.

FUN FACT One of the common, everyday items we take for granted is an elevator. Many of us, including the patients and staff at Holland Hospital, use an elevator at least once daily. However, extremely tall buildings require very fast elevators to ensure occupants can commute to their desired floors quickly. Just how fast is very fast? The quickest elevators can move people vertically at over 3,280 feet per minute!

Looking Ahead Miguel Delao, Assistant Field Manager MiguelD@elzinga-volkers.com | 616.848.0652 The third phase of the Boven Birth Center renovation is starting to take shape with steel stud framing almost complete. Our trade partners have been hard at work installing their material in walls, ceilings and even through the floors to continue progress. After inspections are complete, installation of drywall will begin on the north section of the floor. The challenge will be fitting all the material needed for each trade in the space where work is constant. The renovation of the family waiting room continues as well. Wooden panels replaced the glass enclosure. This is temporary until the new enclosure is installed in the future. Steel beams are scheduled for installation this month. Our EV steel crew, with the help of a crane, will set the new steel support beams. There will also be a new bathroom added to the waiting area. This will be a great addition to the family waiting room.

This month we would like to recognize our mechanical trade contractor, FHC. Jereme Potter, FHC foreman, was given the opportunity to join our project for this last phase. Jereme has worked diligently to get up to speed on the project and make sure his ductwork installation went as quickly and efficiently as possible. With renovations come the challenges of moving material and replacing old parts with new parts. For Jereme and his team, this has been the case and working around business hours, on different floors, has been imperative to keep the project going. We greatly appreciate Jereme and FHC for being team oriented and doing an excellent job on this project.
