BUILDING BOVEN Holland Hospital - Boven Birth Center Renovation - Construction Update Newsletter

PROJECT MANAGEMENT UPDATE Our New Year’s resolution for 2020 is to complete Phase 3 of the Boven Birthing Unit renovation on time! We are excited for the patients and staff to see the high level of quality that has gone into this project. We are almost to the halfway mark for this phase. In this last phase, space is an issue for our team. With the walls all framed up, there are some tough spaces to navigate into. It is really important that materials are Julie Cole-Bouwens Assistant Project Manager stored neatly, which the team onsite has done a great job of. By the end JulieC@elzinga-volkers.com of next month, we will really see this space take shape. We hope everyone enjoyed Christmas and has a safe New Year!

FUN FACT Every day an estimated 1,000 eye injuries occur in U.S. workplaces. The financial cost of these injuries is enormous – more than $300 million per year in lost production time, medical expenses and worker’s compensation. No dollar figure can adequately reflect the personal toll these accidents take on the injured workers. Because of the high frequency of eye injuries on construction sites, EV requires all tradespeople and visitors to wear OSHA approved safety glasses while onsite.

Building Boven - Construction Update Newsletter Holland Hospital - Boven Birth Center - December 2019

Looking Ahead Miguel Delao, Assistant Field Manager MiguelD@elzinga-volkers.com | 616.848.0652 Boven Birth Center continues to progress with almost all of the rough-ins completed. Drywall will be installed in the coming weeks, which will drive our drywall finishers to be onsite shortly to prepare for paint. It will not be long before painters can begin prepping to add some color to the space. Almost all door frames and walls are in place. Our framers have focused on straight and radius bulkheads in the patient rooms to continue the design theme from Phase 1 and Phase 2. The warmer weather in December did us a favor when installing the family waiting room support steel structure and roof. Next on the agenda will be to add steel studs and other layers to prepare for the metal panels to be installed in the next few months. Framing of the interior will take place so our trade partners can add their scope of work to the family waiting room.

This month we would like to recognize our EV Interiors Division. Led by Chad Kiester, the interiors division has worked very hard to make sure walls are placed according to the design. There are constant challenges with where walls may land, and it takes some creative thinking to find a solution that will work for all trades involved. In addition, installation of radius bulkheads in corridors and patient rooms take time to figure out the correct angles and placement. Our team has welcomed the challenge and have done a phenomenal job throughout the project, including Phase 1 and Phase 2 to brings the design team’s vision to life. Thank you to Chad and his team for their impact on this project.
