PROJECT MANAGEMENT UPDATE
FUN FACT
The holidays are behind us and a new year has begun. Despite contractors and craftsmen taking some much deserved time off around the holidays, progress of Phase 3 has not slowed down. As a matter of fact, quite the opposite has happened as we are ramping up onsite to begin the finishes phase of this project. Mechanical, plumbing and electric rough-in’s are in and have been inspected. This past month drywall was hung and we Jared Andersen have begun finishing, with paint to follow. With the space onsite crowded Project Manager JaredA@elzinga-volkers.com due to minimal storage, it has continued to require us all to work together to keep the project site clean and well organized. Again, I have to thank the trade partners for working well together to achieve a clean, safe and quality project site despite these challenges.
It takes hundreds of different tools to construct a new building or renovated space. In most cases, these tools can be purchased at local hardware stores or local distributors. Many EV employees simply utilize our warehouse for tools needed on the job. This is only a few miles up the road and always accessible for the demands of this project. However, when in space astronauts do not have this luxury. How do they get around this challenge? Programming is sent to them via email from NASA and tools are created in space using a 3D printer!

Time is flying by and the New Year has just started. We have passed the required inspections to move forward with adding drywall to the entire 3rd phase (excluding Family Waiting). Drywall finishers have been on site working diligently to prep the walls to a Level 5 finish. This is the highest level of quality finish for paint, which will take place soon. As we look ahead to the following weeks, finished walls will begin to have color added which will be another milestone reached for this phase and nice to see as well. The family waiting room and new bathroom exterior walls are installed and weather proofed. This has helped with closing in the space to add fireproofing to the steel beams. Our trade partners have taken measurements to start the process of building the new metal panels and glass windows. Ceiling hangers for necessary mechanical, electrical and plumbing lines are going up. Framing of the interior walls will take place shortly giving our trade partners the opportunity to add their scope of work to the family waiting room.
This month we would like to recognize the Holland Hospital staff. There are multiple areas affected by the constant noise of drilling, cutting and hammering that comes with construction. This noise can travel through floors and disturb patient areas. The Cardiopulmonary Department and the Ambulatory Treatment Unit have especially been affected as we find ourselves in those areas multiple times to make the necessary sanitary connections, build walls and work above ceilings. We appreciate the flexibility and constant communication from your team to help us get the job done, while also minimizing the impact on hospital operations. Thank you all!
