BUILDING BOVEN Holland Hospital - Boven Birth Center Renovation - Construction Update Newsletter

PHASE 2 PROGRESS

PROJECT MANAGEMENT UPDATE Phase 2 of the Boven renovations is littered with complexity and challenges. These challenges take careful planning and thought to ensure the success of each. I am happy to announce several of the most challenging portions of Phase 2 are behind us with great success! This includes the completion of sanitary tie-ins from the main level, the large crane pick of the Phase 2 air handler, as well as several electrical and mechanical shutdowns. Now, the Jared Andersen final finishes are being placed within the rooms. This is a very exciting time Project Manager for the project because it gives a glimpse of what the final product will be. The JaredA@elzinga-volkers.com architect, Matthei & Colin Associates, has always done an outstanding job in designing a high quality space for staff and patients. We are always eager to bring these designs to reality and excited to show off the finished product. Stay tuned as we wrap up Phase 2 in the coming months!

FUN FACT Summer is finally starting to show its warm weather. At least we hope so! However, did you know that during the summer months the Eiffel Tower, located in Paris, actually grows in height by over half a foot! This is due to the structure being nearly completely iron. The exposure of this iron to the summer heat causes the tower to grow both vertically and horizontally. During the winter months this structure shrinks back to it’s 1,063’ average height.

Looking Ahead Chris Workman, Field Engineer ChrisW@elzinga-volkers.com | 616.914.1982 We have started the finishes on about half of the project now. The south end is completely fitted out with cabinetry, solid surface and wall protection. The carpentry team has moved into the first four labor delivery rooms to install casework and wall protection as well as the AD Systems door frames. Drywall finishing has begun on the corridor and will continue to move northwards throughout the next week. One big schedule accomplishment was the crane pick of the new air handler; this required a crane from Erickson’s to go over the whole bed tower of the hospital. Install of the AHU is another step as we move closer towards Phase 3 of the project. Another interesting aspect of the project is the C-section OR. This room has solid surface walls, epoxy paint, stainless steel casework, special air moving systems, an anesthesia boom that has been installed by AMS, and it will also contain surgical lights that are fitted out by Stryker in the next month. We continue to plan out our transition from Phase 2 to Phase 3 for the end of the summer, planning out where our construction barriers will be and how we will be as minimally invasive to the hospital’s operations as possible.

This month we want to recognize our E&V carpentry team. With the difficulty of finishes that is typical at Holland Hospital, it takes an incredible amount of effort to put the rooms together with cabinetry, millwork and wall protection. Our carpenters have done an outstanding job of fitting out these rooms and maintaining the highest level of quality. Without their knowledge and skillset we would not be able to stay on schedule like we are. So kudos to the team so far!
