Building Together Canterbury on the Lake - Facility Addition & Renovations

New interior frame and glass door entrance into rehab

PM Summary

Monthly Funny

Project Activity is Ramping Up! For the Memory Care building and site, winter keeps throwing new challenges at us. Warmer than normal temperatures and rain offers different issues to deal with than a normal cold snowy winter. We’re rolling with it and adjusting as we go. Foundations are nearing completion and underslab plumbing and electrical is being installed to allow wall panel installation to begin. Installation of site utilities continues.

AND YOU WONDER WHY I CAN NEVER LEAVE YOU ALONE

2016-2017 Michigan Contractor of the Year

The Health Center renovations are hitting stride. Phase 1A is complete except for some finish changes and window sills. This phase has been approved by local authorities and the Bureau of Fire Safety. Work continues on phase 1 and we are in the middle of phase 2. The Rehab addition has hit a speed bump. Electrical and storm utility conflicts have incurred a 3-4 week delay on completing this addition. Foundations are set to begin March 13th. Extension Cord Safety Guidelines

Extensions cords are used everywhere on construction sites. Normal wear and tear on cords can loosen or expose wires. Cords that are not 3-wire type, were not designed for hard use, or have been modified, increase the risk of contacting an electrical current. Here are some guidelines that Elzinga & Volkers uses to regulate the use of extension cords:

» Use only equipment that meets OSHA standards

» Underground MEP rough in's will continue

» Do not modify or use cords incorrectly

» Trench footings for connector will be in place

» Use factory-assembled cords and only use the 3-wire type

» Compacted Stone fill will be placed in building pad

» Remove cords from receptacles by pulling on the plugs, not the cord.

» Concrete Slab on grade will be poured » Wall panels will be erected » Roof trusses will be installed

Renovation Project Happenings Many accomplishments are going to occur within the next 4-6 weeks. Phase 2 will be 100% complete and phase 3 will begin. Phase 1 addition foundation will be poured, CMU block installation, steel erection, and wall framing.

COTL, along with 800,000 residents and business of the Metro Detroit area, had a major power outage on March 8. Kevin Frye stepped up to the plate to assist COTL with obtaining generators for heaters and coordinated their garbage disposal due to their compactor not having power. In addition, a tree fell on the flooring contractors vehicles and Kevin assisted with the removal trade contractors could drive there vehicles. Thank you Kevin!
