BUILDINGTOGETHER

WORK HARD, TRAIN HARDER What are your goals for 2018, and beyond? How do you attain those goals and reach the top of whatever it is you do? If you are in the early stages of your career, those goals are maybe still being defined as you navigate through the challenges of becoming a master at your skills. Gaining knowledge, along with hard work will shorten your journey. Even for us veterans, hard work, training and educating ourselves is essential to achieving our goals and reaching the top or staying on top of our profession. In the construction industry, we see many workers, including field trades, foremen, supervisors, office personnel and corporate leaders, that give it their all each and every day. I have always believed that those individuals were blessed with a great work ethic by how the good Lord created them. It is in their DNA. There are all kinds of books and articles written, imploring people to work harder to achieve their goals in life. Those who are already hard wired to work hard, will certainly benefit from those lessons and have a leg up on those not naturally wired with an over the top work ethic.

opportunities to educate and train oneself to gain knowledge. The most successful people have a great understanding about whatever it is he or she does. Whether you are a carpenter, project manager or the president of the company, mastering what you do, and achieving your goals, takes both hard work and a heavy amount of training and education. Here at E&V, we take pride in the fact that we value education and training, as much as any contractor in West Michigan, probably more. We provide E&V Youniversity trainings for all employees. We have supported eight individuals who either have obtained their MBA, or are working toward it currently. I doubt many other construction companies can tout that many people with that accomplishment. We annually send trades people and supervisors to ABC/GRCC craft and leadership training. Our in house library, free to anyone wishing to check out a book, provides valuable material on leadership, management and other valuable topics to educate oneself. Each employee is given a Quality Standards Manual, which is a must read and if you want to reach your goals in the construction industry. So, take advantage of all the opportunities available to you here at E&V. Work hard, train harder and I’ll see you at the top!

A strong work ethic is the essential foundation for any person desiring to build their career. What is too often missing though, are Tony Roussey VP of Operations

101 Best and Brightest Committee Update A few weeks ago you should have received an email requesting feedback about E&V from the 101 Best and Brightest survey. We want to take a moment to thank everyone who participated. The responses are invaluable as they help shape what's to come in 2018. Results are thoroughly examined as we seek to improve in our weakest areas. Each of the ten committees will be getting the results to see how they can best impact the lives of their peers in their respective categories. As we move forward in the year, you'll hear monthly updates at each safety meeting regarding what long and short term goals each committee has for 2018. We'll also be recognizing efforts of the committees in the newsletter with progress updates. If you do have questions or suggestions, we encourage you to reach out to any of the following team members. Your ideas may be something that could be implemented and benefit the rest of the company! 2018 CHECKS FOR CHARITIES 2018 marked the third year that we've hosted our "Checks for Charities" program to benefit Michigan organizations. By tying in the Super Bowl, selected organizations had the opportunity to win some cold-hard cash just because of the work that they do! This year, we selected construction workforce development programs throughout Michigan. These are organizations that focus on building the skilled trade sectors in the construction industry. Winners this year included: Michigan Tech University, Muskegon Area Career Tech Center, Western Michigan University and West Michigan Works! Thanks to everyone who followed along on social media!
