TEN YEARS IN THE MAKING

MIKE NOVAKOSKI, CEO & PRESIDENT Elzinga & Volkers has had a profound impact on my life and countless others. It has left a positive, indelible mark on thousands of people we’ve all worked alongside, whether it be a fellow team member, a trade partner, supplier, architect or any one of our many clients. In my 30+ years, I have experienced many transformations in our industry. Having a front row seat to witness, and actively participate in, the unmistakable transformation our company has undergone in just the past ten years alone has brought me great joy. We have morphed into something very special indeed. No one else shares our unique journey, nor have they been able to duplicate our culture, our award worthiness and our highly talented, meaningfully connected workforce. As most of you know by now, we have chosen 2020 as our year to redirect how the world sees, feels and experiences EV. We are shifting focus from “who we were” to “who we’ve become”. The rebranding process we are undergoing in the coming months gives us the chance to reinforce (through stories, taglines, a refreshed logo, signage, uniforms, etc.) that we are noticeably different. As the old car commercial used to say, “This is not your grandfather’s Oldsmobile”. This rebranding is fueled by several “realities” of our business today.

First, we have grown substantively in many areas including team members, sales and business lines. Clients have pulled us out of our historical comfort zones. They love what we do and how we do it! We have significantly grown our self-perform abilities not just in numbers, but by also adding four new divisions that have exploded with opportunities to serve our clients. Our unique operational model and business platform led us to the writing of our book “Become Unmistakable – Start the Journey from Commodity to Oddity”. The book led to the creation of a separate consulting company, Become Unmistakable, LLC, that is helping companies across all industries develop leadership, culture and realize the need for meaningful employee connection and engagement! New leadership has also reinvigorated EV Group, our professional services company. Our company has grown and so has our recognition around the region, state and nation. Second, as we have branched out nationally, we have come to understand the need to be more clearly and simply recognizable. Our new name “EV Construction” is easy to spell, memorable and clearly states what we do. While we will always honor our founders’ surnames as the base of where we started, our new name reflects who we have become. Along with the name change, Continued on Page 2

TEN YEARS IN THE MAKING CONT’D our electronic communications (email and websites) will be hosted at www.ev.construction. That’s right, no “.com”! If you have ever had to give our current email address over the phone, you already know how much easier this will be. Third, we look to reinforce the things that are most important to us. Our new tagline, “Built Around People”, could not be more powerful in this regard. At our core, we are great builders. Not just in the physical sense, but also in how we build everything on the foundational belief of employee-centricity. We truly care for our people. The talented men and women of this company work hard to be their own, unmistakable brand, worthy of awards like “Mother/Father/Wife/ Husband/Daughter/Son/Neighbor or Coach of the Year”. The deeply connected relationships we constantly encourage between the company and each team member is an incredible investment that pays off in both personal and professional fulfillment. Owners have come to know, without any doubt, we operate many levels above any of our competitors. We have a sustainable future because of the “raving fan” status our clients have for us as a result of the people with whom they have worked.

MARCH NEWSLETTER

March will be a busy month as we prepare to launch our rebrand publicly. We will be skipping the March newsletter this year and begin again with a new look in April. In the meantime, keep your eyes on EVinsite for information about current EV happenings.

Polar Plunge for Special Olympics

A great group of EV men took the plunge for Special Olympics on Saturday, February 1. Thank you to those pictured below for your participation and to Doug Eddy for leading the charge.

Finally, this rebranding has been brewing for years now without us labelling it as such. Without realizing it, little by little and systematically we have been undergoing a major transformation for the last decade. Things like attitude, culture, people, leadership, processes and beliefs have all been a work in progress. The capstone to this journey is a sort of “graduation ceremony” where we step from one level to another, or you might say “from then to now”! In 2020 our brand will be caught up to our journey and I am proud and excited for our bright future as EV Construction, a company Built Around People! Sincerely, BUILDING TOGETHER | February 2020
