BUILDINGTOGETHER

EVERYONE IS A LEADER In a few weeks, I will be blessed with a milestone anniversary here at the company. It will have been 30 years since I stepped foot off a college campus and onto the grounds of Elzinga & Volkers! When “old people” used to tell me how fast time flies by, I never understood them. Now that I am an “old person”, I clearly know what they meant! As I look back, I have many fond memories of all the opportunities I was given to lead. When I first started, I waited for people to ask me to take on a leadership role. I did not know the company needed people like me, even in my junior role, to advance the company in any way that I could under my own initiative. The label of leader shouldn’t be attached to just those who manage people, it also identifies individuals leading transformative change, no matter how small the change or

from which corner of the company it comes from. In today’s terms, we would call this activity corporate leadership. For decades now, I have watched people at all levels within Elzinga & Volkers take on the role of a corporate leader, and our company’s success is the obvious byproduct! As we head into another busy construction season, I want to thank each of you for your part in our success. We are a company that is continuously improving, but can’t do so without each of you leading the initiative! Have a great summer and work safe out there!
