New Views Spectrum Health - Gerber Memorial
SAFETY SPOTLIGHT The last two weeks have seen the new second floor unit transition from the construction crews to the hospital staff. During this time, it is essential that the new space is cleaned and sterilized for the patients that will soon arrive on the floor. Elzinga & Volkers hires a specialty cleaning company to perform a “construction clean” when our team is complete. After that, Spectrum Health’s Environmental Services Team performs what is sometimes called a “terminal clean.” This highly intensive clean ensures the most sanitary conditions possible when patients and staff begin to use this new area of the hospital.

Executive Summary
A New Year with a New Pre/Post Op and Endo Unit! We are happy to report that construction has wrapped up on the new Pre/Post Op and Endo Project! Construction crews and teams from Spectrum Health have been working diligently over the past three weeks to make sure that the new space is ready for the patient care teams. Technology such as computers, nurse call, patient monitoring systems and communications are all being installed and tested. Furniture has been moved in and final tweaks are being made to the project. The end product looks great, and we are very proud of all the hard work the trade contractors put into the space. With the final touches on the second floor renovations almost complete, we are shifting our attention to the ED expansion. Despite the bitter cold of the holiday season, crews
from Vos Glass installed aluminum window frames and glass while crews from Mikalan Roofing installed the new membrane roof on the building. Inside, River City Mechanical was the most popular contractor as they installed temporary heating units that will keep the work space at a perfect 50 degrees. With the addition dry and warm, crews from D9 Systems completed most of the wall framing; close behind them was Highpoint Electric installing utilities in the new walls. Things are moving fast!

– one that most people will never know happened. Commissioning is a process of third party verification for mechanical and electrical systems on the project. With the engineer’s design specifications in hand, the commissioning agents verify that all systems are installed and working as designed. Commissioning will continue on the project all the way through the completion of the

Two Week Look Ahead ED Addition: Construction has really ramped up, and crews are charging forward on the ED Addition. On the exterior of the building, Mikalan Roofing will put the final touches on the roof membrane, Vos Glass will continue to install the windows and AMI will start installing the aluminum wall panels above the brick. These efforts will not only help keep the interior of the building watertight, but will make the addition look more like a finished product. On the interior, D9 will continue rough framing, giving HighPoint Electric and River City Mechanical the opportunity to comlplete roughing-in conduits and piping throughout the addition. - Jordan Gougeon, Asst. SUBCONTRACTOR
SPOTLIGHT Finding a specific subcontractor to highlight in this issue was difficult. In the final weeks of any project, the full effort of the entire trade team is required to complete the project on time. We would like to again thank all the fantastic trades on this job for their hard work.
