Updated Exterior

Siding removal and new window installation

PM Update Hello All, Welcome to the October edition of the “Inside Scoop for the Coldwater BPU project. When we checked in with you last, the interior framing was completed and MEP rough-ins, along with the exterior framing, were in progress. A lot has happened over the past month and this project has really picked up steam over the past few weeks. The exterior framing and sheathing is now completed. A new EPDM roof was installed. The interiors are starting to take shape as well with the MEP rough-ins complete and drywall starting.

The Sitework is where most of the visible progress has taken place over the past few weeks. Removal of the sidewalks and asphalt parking lot is complete. A new underground stormwater system is being installed. The manhole structures have been completed. The last part of the site utilities to go in is the StormTech stormwater chamber system. This system will self-contain all of the stormwater from this property as there is not an available tie-in to the city stormwater system. Water from the chamber then saturates back into the ground. Other exterior work taking place is underground piping for irrigation and underground power conduit. Please enjoy the highlights of this project from the past month in the attached photos. SAFETYMatters

Inside Scoop - Construction Update Newsletter Coldwater Board of Public Utilties - October 2017

Hard Hat Safety

Hard hats are a required piece of personal protective equipment on all Elzinga & Volkers jobsites. This attention to safety, however, has certainly evolved through the years. In the early 1900s, shipyard workers covered their caps with tar and let them harden in the sun. This primitive hard hat protected workers from debris that dropped from the ship decks. In 1919, a cap made of canvas, glue and black paint was created. It was coined the “Hard-Boil Hat” due to the manufacturing process. Some of the first construction sites to mandate hard hat usage were the Hoover Dam and the Golden Gate Bridge. Since then, hard hats have kept developing – fashioned from a variety of materials and able to support a multitude of accessories.
