Did you know that the largest, handmade stained glass window is said to be in Covington, Kentucky? It portrays the Council of Ephesus in 431 AD.
You may have noticed that the “Blue Stair” is currently closed. This stairwell is getting a full refresh – drywall patching, new paint, new carpet, and more throughout! The updated look will carry all the way to the basement to give this stairwell a cohesive design you can enjoy as you make your way to the new 3rd floor space. In addition, January’s construction progress has included continued mechanical rough ins, bathroom wall tile installation, and fire protection installation.
Stained glass for window making was taken up by the church to illustrate Bible narratives to a largely illiterate population.
Looking ahead, in February the team will be working on finish carpentry work such as the stage and the curved riser benches along the East wall. Cabinetry and door installation will be in full swing as well. Soon, the final finishes will begin to be installed, which is an indicator that the project is nearing completion. Thank you for your continued support and excitement for this project! Jeremy Brandsen Project Coordinator
FUN FACT
Happy New Year! With the flurry of the holidays behind us, we are here with another edition of “On Location,” to show you what has been happening on the 3rd floor for the past couple months. In November and December, all of the structural steel work was finalized, allowing metal stud framing and drywall hanging to follow closely behind. Drywall hanging and finishing is an exciting time in any construction process because it is the first time you can actually walk into the different rooms and experience what the architect has designed on paper! During this time, new windows were installed along the east side of the space. The original windows in this space contained wire mesh in the glass, and the new windows give an updated look to the space, along with matching the look of the existing arched windows across the room.

Only 10% of all stained glass in the world today is used in churches and other religious structures.

LOOKING AHEAD
SAFETY MATTERS LADDER SAFETY
Brian Marion, Field Manager brianm@elzinga-volkers.com | 616.633.8868 The renovations on this grand ole building (3rd floor circa 1929), will really start showing in February, the month we turn from rough in to finish. Painting and the installation of countertops, cabinets, tile and FRP will all take place this month. Doors, hardware, specialty construction, lighting and AV are also part of the February scope of work. All of it leading towards preparation for our final month of constrcuction. In March we will finish the project with the floor covering crescendo. In like a Lion and out like a Lamb.
When choosing a ladder ensure you choose one that is taller than the spot you need to reach; at least 3-4 inches above your desired location. It is important to remember: Do Not Use the Top Two Steps of a Ladder!
TEAM SPOTLIGHT Who’s Who On Site
MEZZANINE FRAMING
The fire protection crew from Goyette Mechanical recently assembled onsite and has done a great job staying on schedule. Between maintaining the pathways they need to meet the NFPA standards and the limited space (because of spiral ductwork, lighting, movable curtain track, hanging ceiling grid clouds, structural steel and drywall) the crew has been highly efficient. Kudos to the team for the concern and professionalism shown while working on FPCF.
