We are back with another edition of “On Location,” to inform you what has progressed during the month of October! Much of October’s construction activity entailed continuing demolition of the existing 3rd floor space, which as of the 31st, is complete! Temporary shoring has been installed in place of the mezzanine steel that has been removed. Temporary shoring, in this case, is steel that is installed to temporarily brace a structure while steel members are removed and until new steel is in place. Also over the last month, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing rough ins have begun. Due to much of this space having an exposed ceiling, these rough ins require extra time and care in planning and installation to ensure the final product is perfect. Metal stud framing is also in progress, which is an exciting milestone, as you finally can see the project coming alive with actual rooms!
FUN FACT Henry Ford was the first Industrial giant to give his workers both Saturday and Sunday off, in hopes that it would encourage more leisure use of automobiles, and thus popularizing the idea of the “weekend.”
Many of you may have also noticed that the drywall ceiling has been removed in the atrium vestibule of the church. This work was necessary to install the plumbing rough ins for the new bathroom fixtures on the 3rd floor above. We thank you for excusing our disturbance of your space during this time! Our team of trade contractors are working hard to get this space put back together as soon as possible, so you can enjoy the holiday season without interference. Jeremy Brandsen Project Coordinator

LOOKING AHEAD
SAFETY MATTERS FIGHTING FROSTBITE
Brian Marion, Field Manager brianm@elzinga-volkers.com | 616.633.8868 We will be installing new windows and starting the drywall phase for what we already have framed in place. Concurrently, we are also completing the structural steel replacement along the south side of the project. Once that is in place, the remaining framing can be completed as well as the remaining drywall installation and finishing.
With freezing temperatures already on the horizon, we thought it would be good to visit cold weather protection. Prolonged exposure to freezing or cold temperatures may cause serious health problems such as trench foot, frostbite and hypothermia. In extreme cases, including cold water immersion, exposure can lead to death. Danger signs include uncontrolled shivering, slurred speech, clumsy movements, fatigue and confused behavior. If these signs are observed, call for emergency help.
TEAM SPOTLIGHT Who’s Who On Site
MEZZANINE DEMOLITION
& CONSTRUCTION PROFESSIONALS
The 2 guys from Goyette, Tim (foreman) and Doug, bring a laid back, whatever-it-takes attitude that lends itself well to the team. Between demolition of the existing systems, troubleshooting shutoff valve locations, and really anything else, their “no worries” attitude and drive to get the job done right is refreshing. They are also the best at restoring the area to its previous clean condition, with no complaints. Goyette Plumbing is my gold star this month.
