CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Jeremy Brandsen Project Coordinator
Welcome to the second issue of “On Location”! We hope you’ve enjoyed watching the layout of the new building taking shape over the past month. We hit a big milestone this past month with getting the first coat of paving down for the new parking lot. This not only allows the congregation and construction workers to park here, but keeps the dust minimized for the entire site. The retention pond has also been shaped! Behind the temporary fence, new building footings have just been finished up. Foundation walls will finish up early next week. The underground plumbing for the new restrooms has been installed and the underground electric will go in next week before concrete slabs. Two concrete storage tanks have been installed underground near the building, which will hold water for the fire protection system.

FUN FACT Did you know that 80% of old asphalt pavement removed each year is reused and it is America’s most recycled product? More than 90% of parking areas in the US and 94% of roads are asphalt. Asphalt derives its name from the black, sticky, viscous liquid (also known as bitumen) used as the primary binding agent in the mixture. Oil (or liquid asphalt) makes up only 5% of the asphalt pavement material. The other 95% is aggregate.

LOOKING AHEAD
SAFETY MATTERS PAVING
Dan Donavan, Field Manager dand@elzinga-volkers.com | 616.610.9356
We will finish up footings and walls this next week. Underground is going in, along with backfilling. Concrete floors will follow and take a week to cure. The pre-engineered metal building will be erected starting in mid-August. We will also start removing windows and doors in the children’s center, adding new openings, a new masonry firewall and conventional steel.
Paving new roads requires very heavy equipment and skilled equipment operators. During the campus repaving, you will notice that a variety of safety procedures are in place to ensure the residents, staff and visitors at LifeChange Church are protected during this work. We are using high visibility clothing, flagmen, traffic control signage and, of course, the orange barrels that we are all used to seeing on the highway to keep the campus safe. Be careful as you walk through campus in the next few weeks, but even if you forget about the work going on, we certainly will be watching out for you!

CONCRETE FORM WORK
Kevin from Lameyer Plumbing and his crew have worked with the Elzinga & Volkers excavation team to install plumbing underground, water lines and storm hook-ups. We appreciate their ability to complete this with a high standard of quality and in a very short period of time. Go to lifechange.church/makingroom to check out some videos of the progress!
