Incidents

Since our last report there has been two recordable incidents on the job-site. The first happened when a Godwin Plumbing employee bent over to pick up a pipe, hurting his back in the process. The employee went to the emergency room, was issued a prescription and directed to be on light duty for the remainder of the week. He was moved from the site to Godwin’s shop until his back recovered. The second incident was with a Mikalan Roofing Employee. He was walking on the TPO roof after a cold night and slipped on a layer of frost, falling on his tail bone. He went to the ER but was cleared to continue work and returned to the site that afternoon.

Elzinga & Volkers has conducted a post injury review meeting with Godwin and Mikalan to review why each one of these incidents occurred and to come up with proper procedures in order to avoid future injuries.

Safety Education

For this month’s safety education, Professional Safety Solutions conducted a presentation on the new Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements. All of the trade contractors that were on-site attended this meeting.

Project Progress

The building is now enclosed, and heaters are running full-time inside the building. On the second and third floors, Allied Electric, Van Dyken Mechanical and Godwin Plumbing have installed all of the under floor systems, so we can start installing the access flooring. For those of you not familiar with the project, 80% of this building will be constructed on an access floor system. G3 Technologies was hired to complete this scope of work, and they started installing the system on November 22. While the access floor is being installed on the second and third floors, all of the MEP contractors will be roughing-in the underfloor systems on the first floor and lower level. On the exterior of the building TL Masonry has completed the brick façade. Mikalan Roofing has completed the TPO roof where the building is in the dry and everyone can progress on the interior. Vos Glass has been prefabricating the aluminum frames and installing them as the openings are ready. Their glass crew has been following closely behind. We still have a long way to go, but everyone on-site is putting forth their best effort and working great together.
