Safety Meetings and Initiatives

In the past month, the following topics were discussed at our safety meetings: »» Good House Keeping

»» First Aid

»» National Fire Prevention Week

»» Professional Safety Solutions Site Specific Inspection Report

»» New GHS Labels

Now that the project has a few months of back-logged inspections from Professional Safety Solutions, we have assembled a spread sheet that tracks incidents by each contractor. Elzinga & Volkers will use this as a tool throughout the project to track quantities and repetitive incidents. Once a contractor has multiple offences, E&V will call a special meeting to discuss how we will improve the system.

Zero incidents this month!

Safety Education

For our monthly site specific safety training, Professional Safety Solutions covered ladder safety. This was a topic during last month’s safety training, but this month we felt it appropriate to dive further in-depth with all the new trades joining the project. Specifics that were covered include: proper tie off procedures, required landing zone at a point of exit or entrance, using the right ladder for the job, not standing on the top two rungs of a ladder, safety stickers and proper equipment inspections.

Project Progress

The overall progress of the building has jumped significantly over the past month. On the exterior of the building, all of the metal studs, Densglass and Tyveck have been installed, and the masonry has been chasing closely behind. TL Masonry has completed 75% of all the brick façade on the building and should be 100% done in the next week or two. Vos Glass has also started working on-site by installing aluminum frames on the east elevation; it won’t be long until the glass is installed as well.

The MEP subcontractors are ramping up the interior of the building. Allied Electric, Total Fire Protection, Van Dyken Mechanical and Godwin Plumbing are all focusing on completing their respective rough ins on floors 2 & 3. Due to this project’s schedule, we will have dual crews on each floor to help accelerate the work that needs to be completed prior to installing the access flooring. We have a great challenge ahead of us, but we also have the right team in place to succeed in a safe manner.
