THE CONNECTION EV Group Biannual Newsletter | September 2017

MESSAGE FROM MIKE: Will they survive without me? There are times in our lives we can’t seem to see that we need to take a formal break from our work lives. We think we are somehow indispensable, and the show can’t go on without us (or at least not nearly as smoothly)! We each bring something to the table that is unique and valuable, but let’s not kid ourselves — most of us are surrounded by people who are highly talented and can quite easily cover for us. Their willingness to pick up the slack during our temporary absence allows us a valuable and necessary break for which to detach, relax, re-energize and focus on what’s most important...our families and our own sanity! I am blessed to have the undying support when I take a break to spend time with family and friends. We support each other and look for ways to lend a hand so that when someone is away they don’t ruminate on work. They can be present, focused and enjoying the moment. There have been many times throughout my career that upon returning from a vacation I was pleasantly informed of the many great things that happened while I was away. Some of my work mates like to kid me that, “We land more work when you’re away than when you are here!” I assume it’s my ego that makes me want to think I’m more important than I really am. It’s both humbling

and gratifying to know that I don’t need to be here 24/7 and the company can thrive without me. I write this having recently returned from a trip with my 19-year-old son, Noah. We had a remarkable time and shared experiences that will be cherished for a lifetime. Additionally, I had quiet time to read and relax, to connect spiritually and to contemplate the status of my marriage, my relationship with each of my four children, and of course lots of other things including much reflection on the business (hey, no one’s perfect at complete detachment right?!). As I headed back to work on Monday morning, I was filled with gratitude. The time away helped me to cherish what’s most important to me. I have been re-energized and am excited for the year ahead. I was happy to have had the opportunity to go away for a week and also realized that I love my normal, everyday work life enough to be happy to be back as well. I am thankful for my co-workers. I’m ready to pull my weight again and a little bit of others, too, so they can take a much needed and well deserved vacation soon!

Buddy’s Blog Time has a tendency of getting away from us. In the last few weeks you may have noticed kids heading back to school, the start of sporting events and practices, and an up-tick in stress levels of those around you. As the summer winds down and Fall schedules come back with a force, we may all be struggling with time management of everything we need to get done, personally and professionally.

We Like Referrals! EV Group, along with our parent company Elzinga & Volkers, a national General Contractor/Construction Management Company, has developed a generous program where we’ve set aside money through the remainder of 2017 to treat our VIPs (that’s YOU!) for leads and referrals. You are truly our eyes and ears in the field and that is invaluable. The end goal is to increase EV Group’s presence nationally before 2017 wraps up. Anyone new who is hired during this time period must work at least 30 days and, for this referral or activity that leads to a new hire, you will be awarded handsomely with at least a $500 payroll bonus! Be thinking of a hiring manager who has a need for our services, or it could be an opportunity you hear about within your plant or elsewhere, it could be a person you already know that you help slide into a role, etc. We really want to show how much we appreciate that kind of activity. Thank you for helping us grow the EV Group footprint! Please continue to keep this in mind and be thinking of this referral program going into the latter part of 2017! Who do we hire? We are not just construction, we recruit people in a variety of fields who have a wide range of education, such as SAP, IT, manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, supervision and administrative services to name a few. How can you refer someone? If you know any quality candidates that are in the job market, please forward their information to Stacy Chatfield at schatfield@ theEVgroup.com.

To help you adjust to the end of summer changes, here are 3 tips to help you organize a successful day.

Training & Education

MAKE A PLAN: Being busy is not the same as being productive. A proper plan can help you ensure you’re effectively using your time for the highest priority tasks. LEARN TO DELEGATE: You may wear many hats, but you can’t be the best at everything. Utilize the skills of those around you to conquer tasks more efficiently. TAKE TIME TO PAUSE: We all need a break to refocus our minds on the day ahead. Taking even 15 minutes for yourself can increase productivity and decrease stress.

If you have recently completed certifications or trainings, or if you are in need of renewals or additional training, please contact Stacy Chatfield at schatfield@ theEVgroup.com. We would like to add qualifications to your resume to better position you for future opportunities.
