I
am so pleased you are joining us for this vibrant conference, where you will take home new energy and enthusiasm to make your professional career even more powerful.
“Worth Every Penny” is our theme and exactly the point of this conference. We understand the demands on women personally and professionally. The conference is about sharing moments with old and new friends, elevating your career and seizing professional-development opportunities.
Please take note of the “UNconference” we are adding this year. It’s a way to do something I’ve dreamed of doing since I was a teenager at my first National Conference for College Women Student Leaders, wondering as much about what I could learn from attendees as the people arranged to speak, as great as they were. This conference is a hybrid of all the best things about communicating and connecting. It’s a chance to lift each other up to realize our true professional value at a time when the need for our skills has never been higher. The fact we get to do it in the heartland thrills me. I’m so glad to share some of what we take great pride in our Illinois capital. Add to that, the superb opportunity to see some of what Abraham Lincoln experienced with an upclose look at his life right outside our conference doors. I’m certain you will be thankful you made this multi-faceted conference a 2013 priority!
Maria Henneberry, AWC National Board of Directors chair

or more than 20 years, Bonnie St. John has circled the globe as a keynote speaker and leadership consultant for more than 500 companies, nonprofits and associations. From Fortune 100 C-suites to front-line management, St. John’s initiatives (both live and Web-based) have inspired leaders at every corporate level to improve their skills, hone their thinking and expand their horizons to new levels of performance. Her flexible, individually tailored, highly impactful yet entertaining presentations are designed to provide insightful and inspirational solutions to the global, ever-changing challenges of the 21st century workplace. St. John has risen to the highest levels of achievement in a variety of endeavors throughout her life. Despite having her right leg amputated at age 5, she became the first African-American to win Olympic or Paralympic medals in ski racing, taking home a silver and two bronze medals in downhill events at the 1984 Winter Paralympics in Innsbruck, Austria. In recognition of this historic achievement, St. John was quoted on millions of Starbucks coffee cups and was honored at the White House by President George W. Bush. St. John graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University and earned a Rhodes Scholarship to Trinity College, Oxford, taking a Master of Letters in economics. After returning to the U.S., she began her business career at IBM, where she won awards as a sales rep. Soon, though, Washington came calling and St. John was appointed by President Bill Clinton

as a director for human capital issues on the National Economic Council. The celebrated author of six books, St. John co-authored her most recent No. 1 bestseller, “How Great Women Lead: A Mother-Daughter Adventure into the Lives of Women Shaping the World,” with her teenage daughter, Darcy. Together, they traveled around the world on an extraordinary mother-daughter journey into the lives – and life lessons – of fascinating female leaders including Hillary Clinton, Condoleezza Rice, President of Liberia Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, fashion designers, CEOs, women’s rights activists and many more. St. John also enjoys “giving back.” She frequently donates personal appearances to schools, homeless shelters, community groups and other organizations in hundreds of locations while traveling for corporate clients. During the winter, she coaches disabled ski racers for the Adaptive Sports Foundation in Windham, N.Y. In 2010, St. John once again represented the U.S. as a member of President Barack Obama’s official delegation to the Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver, British Columbia. St. John has been featured extensively in national and international media, including “CBS Morning News,” “Today,” CNN, NPR, PBS, The New York Times, and People, O and Essence magazines. “NBC Nightly News” called St. John “one of the five most inspiring women in America.”

T
oday’s auto show talent that helps showcase the assets of countless new vehicles is more than a “pretty face” thanks to the vision and drive of Margery Krevsky, owner and CEO of Michigan-based Productions Plus – The Talent Shop. Krevsky, dubbed “The Queen Bee of the Car Show Models” by Forbes, long ago defied the prevailing trend that had models at auto shows draped against vehicles, dressed sexily in tight ball gowns or short shorts and armed with memorized scripts. She took bold steps and outfitted her talent in sophisticated business attire, first for Pontiac, then Nissan Motor Co. and Toyota Motor Corp. Other automakers soon sought out her skills. She insisted on her models becoming trained as “product specialists” so they could impress potential customers with vehiclecomparison facts and figures as well as glamour. Since that time, Krevsky has spent more than three decades selecting, outfitting and training talent for auto shows, conventions and other events across America, bringing a worldly perspective to her business and traveling to shows around the globe. Clients include Toyota (Lexus, Scion and Toyota), Porsche, Mazda Motor Corp., Nissan (Nissan and Infiniti) and General Motors Co. (Chevy, Cadillac, Buick and GMC). She also is the author of the award-winning book, “Sirens of Chrome: The Enduring Allure of Auto Show Models,” which served as the muse for the exhibit by the same name that most recently was on display at
the National Automobile Museum in Reno, Nev. The consummate entrepreneur, Krevsky took the knowledge gained from working with beauty professionals and, in 2008, launched Purely Pro Cosmetics, a line of more than 400 mineral and classic makeup products designed to last and enhance. Created especially for models, acting talent and the film industry, the cosmetics can be found at www.purelypro cosmetics.com and at more than 60 salons, spas and makeup studios nationwide and internationally. Headquartered in Bingham Farms, Mich., with offices in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York, Productions Plus – The Talent Shop is one the largest talentmanagement agencies in the Midwest. In addition to providing talent for auto shows, trade shows, conventions, automotive marketing, ride and drives, dealer meetings, promotions and product demonstrations, the agency also specializes in finding talent for voice-overs, runway, print, film, television and commercial projects. Its database identifies highly trained actors, narrators, models, costume characters, hostesses, crowd gatherers, greeters and celebrity impersonators for auditions, casting calls and assignments. Krevsky is part of the Michigan Concours d’Elegance and is a member of the Women’s Automotive Alliance International. She received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2010 Award in Michigan and Northwest Ohio. She is a member of the AWC Detroit chapter and serves as vice president of membership. 2013 AWC NATIONAL CONFERENCE • 7

Ann Tracy Mueller, editor, corporate communicator and Lincoln enthusiast As you join other communicators for this conference in the Land of Lincoln, do you wonder what you have in common with the 16th president?
Abraham Lincoln drew upon the skills he developed in the village of New Salem, Ill., in Springfield, Ill., and in Illinois courtrooms to lead our country through one of its most difficult times. A lifelong learner, he was eager to learn new things, whether the topic was surveying, law or military strategy. During his presidency, Lincoln was as receptive to visitors and glued to the telegraph as many of us are to our social media followers and venues. Learn how you can follow his example to connect and share with your audience today and in the future, no matter how your career, technology or communication channels change. Mueller is an editor, communications professional and lifelong Lincoln enthusiast. She draws upon experience gained from more than 30 years in customer service, a dozen years in corporate communication, more than two years as a health-care editor and an award-winning Abraham Lincoln bicentennial social media campaign to show communicators how social media helps people connect and share important information. Mueller helped copy edit “Abraham Lincoln Traveled This Way: The America Lincoln Knew” by Michael Burlingame and Robert Shaw and served as a historical advisor on the movie “Saving Lincoln.” Twitter: @LincolnBuff2 facebook.com/anntracymuellerwriter Blogs: Musings on Route 66, musingsonroute66. blogspot.com and LincolnBuff2, lincolnbuff2. blogspot.com pinterest.com/lincolnbuff2 linkedin.com/in/anntracymueller 5:45 - 7 p.m., Vista 1, 29th floor Wine and cheese reception 7 p.m. Dine around in downtown Springfield on your own
