TEKASHI 6IX 9INE THE ROCK STAR OF THE RAP CULTURE Written by: David Coleman
Elegant Words “Shout out to Cardi B” rapper Tekashi69 proclaimed followed by a short pause and confused face as he tries to collect his thoughts to announce his next statement. “It’s not just Tekashi69 anymore……its bigger, its New York as a whole…. we are a movement” fully focusing on his thoughts, the next words uttered from his mouth can shock the city of New York resulting in positive or negative feedback. The 21-year-old rapper born and raised in the inner-city streets of Brooklyn New York, suddenly projects his voice into the microphone stating, “I don’t want to eat my words but right now I got New York on my back.” Now the question that may arise in many of critic’s minds is how? And judging from the outside looking in, his appearance screams I don’t give a f**ck what you think I’m doing me. Tekashi69 born Daniel Hernandez is a very unique character which sprung up in the hip hop culture out of nowhere. In a recent interview with DJ Self 69 claims that he has always been around. The people just didn’t notice him or didn’t want to notice him. In the words of rapper Tekashi , “I love New York I’m from New York, but New York citizens do not like to support”. The upcoming star says that he became famous overseas first. He gained most of his exposure from places such as Europe, Africa, and South America. It wasn’t until he arrived back into the United States that he made a name for himself. Growing up in Brooklyn young Hernandez’s child hood was not your typical joyful living

atmosphere. His father was murdered while he was still young leaving just him and his mother to survive in this cold mysterious world. With a single mother struggling to pay the bills and keep food on the table Tekashi stated in an interview with DJ Whoo kid. “I was just happy I had somewhere to go after school, somewhere I can sleep. sh*t, and piss”. Trying so desperately to assist his mom with the bills it was easy for Tekashi to find different hustle techniques in the streets. Being that he was Puerto Rican and Mexican the young star faced a lot of bullying in school, which caused him to have several fights leading expulsion from numerous schools. Having to deal with so much negativity as a youth, Tekashi69 uses rap to express his anger towards the world. The feeling of being an outcast encouraged him to stand up for himself by not following the rules of society and just being himself all while trying to help other kids in the community. Many outsiders may look at the star as someone that just doesn’t care about anyone or anything. The rapper’s appearance shouts out I’m a happy gangster, as his long rainbow streaked hair blows in the wind, he jumps around sporadically in his latest music video “kooda,” which went viral reaching over 60 million views. With his first single reaching number 13 on The Billboard Hot 100 entitled “Gumbo”.
Some will argue that the tatted faced rapper promotes violence and anger. Covered in the number 69 over 200 times on his body the rapper says that there is a meaning behind the yelling and outrage on every track. As you begin to listen to the music produced by Tekashi you will notice he yells “SCUMGANG” on a lot of his songs. Now this can quickly convince people that everything is negative being that the artist surrounds himself with members of the Bloods and Crips, local gangs in the city of New York. The thought that may ponder one’s mind is Tekashi69 is evil. But what if its all just a misunderstanding? You can never judge a person not fully understanding their lifestyle. There is always a message behind the madness. As for Tekashi69’s madness there is a message. Let’s look at his colorful hair, the rainbow dye that matches his colorful diamond teeth which literally allows him to taste the rainbow. Why do it? What does it mean? As we know the colors represent the LGBT community. The young rapper stated that the colors stand for all lesbians, gays, bisexual and transgender that ever got picked on. His hair and teeth are a statement of fighting back for what is right, that people have a right to live their life according to their rules only. Hence the name SCUMGANG which is an acronym that stands for Society Can’t Understand Me. Tekashi explains in a recent interview that he uses negative to gain a positive outlook on life. He stated that if he made positive music then it will be hard to reach the people who really needs to be surrounded by the positivity. Tekashi 69 uses music as his escape route to a better life. A lot of fans of the hip hop culture turn their faces at the rapper because they may feel as though he doesn’t represent hip hop and its original roots. According to the artist there is no one in the industry past or present that he looks to as a role model. He then goes on to explain how his choice of words were not a diss, or any gesture of disrespect, but only the truth. Even though he grew up listening to heavy metal, he loves to use rap to express his artistic ability. In the interview with DJ Self he admits of not being lyrical and he takes all negative outburst against him as constructive criticism.
And After a sudden change in his financial state rapper Tekashi gives back to his community by donating money to local schools, helping the homeless, and providing soup kitchens as well. 69 also participated in HIV awareness and supports friends with the disease. His future endeavors include: creating his own line of condoms and releasing a music project for fans. We all know that hip hop has changed over the decades and will continue to evolve. Of course, its not the same as it was 20 or even 10 years ago. There are different lanes for all genres of music, there is no blue print on how to live your life. The real question is; Should we be upset with Tekashi69 for being different and successful? Or should we let the young rising star rock out?! The rock star of the rap culture.

The young entrepreneur could very well be hip hop culture’s very own Kiss Rock band in one person. Judging by the amount of energy he brings to every live performance. Throwing water in the crowd as he performs and then jumps into the hand of his thousands of fans. You can sense the feeling of I’m rich, successful, and rebellious. 5 JUSBUMAGAZINE.COM

Will you be ready when your gift make room for you and bring you before important men? Your gifts and talents they are one in the same. Most of us don’t realize our gifts because we work so naturally in them so it seems to be something we just do. Whatever yourpassion is or gift is it seems to come as second nature. Your go tothat you love to do all the time whether you are happy or sad you will put in timeless energy working in your talent because it makes you feel good. You can do it with your eyes closed and you would and have done it for no money because it is your gift which comes from the Father who gave each and every one of us our gifts. Like any workman or apprentice it causes for practice to horn in your skills so when you are ready to make the mark you will get what you expected and wanted which is the Bullseye. Every sport man knows when his or her gift is perfected. You know when you are in sync. When you are in the flow when you can hear only yourself and you drown out anything or anybody else because at that moment you are there and you can feel it. This is the process that goes with coming before great men that merits you sharing your gifts with the world. Never be ashamed of your gift. Never belittle your gift. Never be quiet with your gift because the world could be waiting just for your part of your gift to start a revolution, a symphony, complete a team, sing or play the perfect note, or have the gift of teaching. Never hold your gift to the standard of others. You are beautifully and wonderfully made. God took pleasure in giving you just the gift that fits you. No one can do it like you. You were selected just for that particular gift, and when you make the mark for that that you have been practicing for. This is your time to shine because you are in your element. The time will come when our gift makes room for us before great and important men. This is when God takes pleasure in displaying his masterpiece. I’ve learned that God loves showing us off when we fall in line with what He had planned for us and our gifts. It’s like a Father or a Mother with his or her child. They are so happy when they go to their recital, Play, baseball game, or talent show to see their kids perform. Whether they win or express themselves very well, mom and dad are so proud and happy for them because they are in their element. If that wasn’t the case for you with no one to celebrate you and your gift with you celebrate your gift yourself. There are clouds of witnesses cheering you on. Never rely on your joy of your accomplishments of your talent to rest on any one else because not all the time our gifts are beautiful to others, but remember your gift comes from God so it is a big thing to Him and He waits for us to come into the tuition of it. God will not let it go unnoticed; remember He gave it. After making the mark a few times our confidence is built. Then we can show the world how beautiful our gift is. We are proud of our selves and of the practices that wasn’t in vain, the hard work paid off, and we are fulfilled until the next level of what we what to accomplish. Now whether you are using your talent for the few or multitude, it still comes from God, and sometimes God want to enjoy you by himself. Whenever or whatever you do with your gift do it to the fullness of God. This is where your energy is and where your passion lies.

21 Things I Wish Everyone Knew About Introverts Introverts are a largely misunderstood bunch. We often come off as quiet or even shy, generally preferring to be behind the scenes and not be the center of attention, and we actually enjoy being alone more often than not. It’s a difficult concept for our more extroverted counterparts to understand. Growing up, I often wished I was naturally more outgoing and got my energy from others like so many of my friends did. But these days I’ve really grown to appreciate and nurture my introverted qualities—they’re what make me who I am. Here are 21 things I wish more people knew about introverts. Not every single point will be true for every introvert out there, but they’re worth keeping in mind the next time you want to gain a deeper understanding of your introverted best friend, co-worker, or family member: 1. I need my alone time to recharge—it’s not an option. 2. I do like people; I just can’t be around them 24 hours a day. 3. I’m not actually shy; I just choose my words carefully before talking. 4. You can always talk to me—I listen really, really well. 5. I love being around extroverts because it brings out my more social side. 6. You’ll like being around me much more if you give me the time and space to take care of myself. 7. I get a little overwhelmed in big groups, but I really enjoy one-on-one or small-group situations. 8. If you bring up a subject I love (such as health and fitness) you may not even know I’m an introvert, and I’ll probably talk your ear off. 9. There’s a fine line between getting enough space to take care of myself and getting too much space and feeling lonely. 10. Small talk is difficult for me—I much prefer deeper conversations.
12 JUSBUMAGAZINE.COM
11. I’m a very good observer and notice and hear everything. 12. Even though I like to be alone, I work better when surrounded by people (hence my tendency to “coffee shop hop”). 13. It’s hard for me to ask for help, so when I reach out I really need it. 14. Taking care of myself, proper nutrition, and getting enough sleep is really, really important for me. 15. Sometimes I wish I could say yes to more things without feeling like I’m going to overwhelm myself. 16. I need even more time to recharge after big events such as parties or conferences. 17. I like being an introvert for the most part, but sometimes I get a little envious of the extroverts who are always the life of the party. 18. I don’t like to waste my time with people who don’t fill me with joy, so if I spend time with you, you can be sure you’re important to me. 19. It’s not that I’m necessarily a quiet person; it’s just that I talk only when I have something specific to say. 20. I prefer to have fewer, closer friends to lots of acquaintances.
21. I am very loyal—once you’ve earned my trust, I’ll have your back for life.

Back Down Memory Lane with Minnie Riperton BY PAM FULISER When you hear the beautiful 5 octave vocals coming through your stereo singing “Loving you is easy because you’re beautiful”, “Stumbling on a Photograph” seeing the happiness and the pain, or “ “Perfect Angel”, “Lover and Friend”. And my favorite along with many others, “Inside my Love”. That is the beautiful voice of the late great musical icon Minnie Riperton. How many times do you walk past a woman like yourself and think, I should speak but instead you look past her and keep walking without saying a work? Now you say to yourself, oh she don’t even see me. The Waller County Jail Disaster By: Jessica Hayden
On October 30, 2017 there was a forum event located at the Juvenile Justice building that was put on by several collaborating organizations’ on campus to enlighten the community on the bond election for a new Waller County Jail. This event gave a lot of facts, discussion pros and cons for voting to create this jail or not. Also, this was the last meeting to get questions to your answers regarding the location of the jail and the architecture display of the jail as well as personal concerns of the jail. That Monday night October 30, 2017 so many community members were completely upset about the way their questions were answered which I can understand why. For instance, the DeputyOfficers were not really educated on the fact of reportson officers that were not attending to the sale mate’s needs which I found pretty disturbing. However, that was not very shocking to me because I have heard so many stories about mistreatment in jails. It is interesting to hear about needing a new Waller County Jail now when the county new about this since 2007 but are just now asking to do something about it 2017. The Mayor David Allen of Prairie View said he liked the diverse group of panel members however; the concern grows about the answers that were given and the possible need for a new jail he does not know but the city of Waller County needs to look into other existing projects that are needed to be address now in Prairie View county. For example, the Cameron road is a major safety problem that needs to be fixed and it was said costs over twenty-five thousand to take care of the problem according to the Waller county but it has not been done in over a year now. Knowing that the Waller County want fund the twenty-five thousand dollar project that is needed in the community but want us to vote on supporting the Waller County Jail project is truly degrading to hear. Craig Washington Prairie View alumnus said “someone needs to go reach out to other precincts in order to change the outcome of an event you do not like in your community”. If you educate people on the issue maybe you can get your representative to change their vote. By looking at targeting people who are just like you and tell them about what is going on in the community and make them see the value in voting. Take for example, SGA President Kendric D. Jones, said“he liked that Ms. Brown challenge students to vote he hopes that this really makes people want to vote and to keep your ears open. Also, stay focused and determine on what change you want to see happen”. Just like another student presentative Antoniou’s Brown, an officer for the Panther Party said they are having an event November 7th called DTP which stands for disburse of the peace. What the event is trying to get people to vote on the bond election to build the thirty-nine million jail. Nonetheless, it is extremely, important to be politically woke in your community and band together to see a positive change in your community. 35 JUSBUMAGAZINE.COM

@NyRieux I was raised by my parents who lived in a small country town. My grandparents made sure each day was filled with responsibilities and the Word of God. This instilled in me discipline and structure. Then I decided to get into sports, gymnastics being my passion. I am a sibling to 3, a mother of 4 and a grandmother which is a blissful blessing. I wear many hats and I’m thankful everyday for them all. Each helped in molding & shaping me into he woman I am today. What inspires me? I’m inspired by my mother, being a mother/grandmother, my humbleness, my intelligence, my kind heart but most of all my FAITH. These things collectively created perseverance and drive within me. This is what fuels me everyday to be great. It creates creative juices in my mind in which I make a reality by weighing the pros & cons of it’s future existence in my life’s path. My mother taught me at a young age, “if your mind can think it, then you can create it and make it successful”. So in everything I do, these words once spoken by my mother, now guardian angel inspired me to be great and stay that way. I have a great support system with my family, my Team and someone very special to me, who gave me great advice 3/2015. Everyone is very supportive in every aspect of my life. They see how hard I strive to be successful in everything I do, yet remain very humble. 44 JUSBUMAGAZINE.COM
My family, Team and this special person stand by my decisions and of course me. However if it’s something they don’t agree with they will speak on it enabling me to reconsider that specific thing or situation. I love this part of my life, their honesty in the kindest way places me back on track at times when I sway off it. In being a explicit model, online exhibitionist, writer, designer, etc most expect a person to be a certain way. They take what they see visually to be who a person is, which is social media’s way at times of condemning individuals as they build you into stardom. I’m not my job choice, I am a African American woman who was given the gift of intelligence to use in the way I see fit whatever that may be. I chose entertainment and fashion because it’s my passion. I didn’t chose ridicule or being judge because of societies constant need for attention. So in conclusion being Nita Laurrieux everyday is hard and a true blessing. NyRieux my entertainment life on the other hand is very challenging in so many aspects. However, I wouldn’t trade either for anything in the world. I experience so many emotions that make me strong, and my FAITH stays intact during it all. It’s so apparent Inspirations push and encourage me to keep going until the wheels fall off. As everyone knows, I’m not one to back down from a good fight.

Saving Yourself It is true that existence and non-existence give birth to one another. Difficulty and ease produce the idea that the musical notes and tones become harmonious through the relation of one with the other. The singularity of formless action increases by kinetic action. To save ones self, is to learn from heaven and Earth. Heaven and Earth do not act from the impulses of any; they wish to be benevolent as they exist with all things. To be alive, we must create an understanding of obscurity and beyond. Heaven is enduring and earth continues long. The reason why heaven and earth are able to endure and continue long is because they do not live of, or for, themselves. This is how they are able to continue and endure. When the intelligent souls are held together in one embrace, they can be kept from separating from the duality of life. When one gives intended attention to the source breath, and brings it to the highest degree of pliancy, one can become as a child. When one has cleansed away the most mysterious sights of his imagination, he can become without fault. In loving is saving. This state of being cannot proceed without any action. In the opening and shutting of the gates of heaven and Earth, your intelligence reaches in every direction and will be without knowledge. This will produce all things and nourish them as it produces them. It does not claim them as its own. It does all, and yet does not boast of it. It presides over all, and does not control it. This is life, as well as genuinely living. As we practice the life force of all things omnipresent, there is nothing outside of it. I teach a source of movement, referred to by Japanese as Koto vibration; that which is born from the source knows no separation among the eternal trinity of mind, matter, and spirit. Through the birth of the source, we open up the conscience on both levels to form on all four levels of practice. It is in our inability to translate our uniqueness, as members of this world, into abstract thoughts or understanding. The creator spirit of the universe, from the codes which all understanding is given, says our souls can touch with the mind. Our spirit has known since before time and space were designed. This is brought into form through movement; through the mechanical judgment of our five basic senses. It is through this consciousness, that the world of form is perceived. We use the word empower a lot. Personal empowerment is all about finding the power to make the changes in your life. I believe everyone already has the power they need. The question, at this point, is how to use that power. This is about how to save yourself and make changes in your life. If you thought your life was not worth saving, you wouldn’t have started reading this. I want to emphasize that you have all the power you need to begin making that change right now. All too often we want to put off making changes. We want to wait until we’re in better shape, or have more money or more time. You have everything you need right now! The word consistent might be the single most important word I use in this manual. You can know what you want and put it out there, but if it doesn’t show up quickly enough for you, you want and ask for something else. The Universe starts lining up this new want. Since you’ve stopped focusing on the old want, it stops bringing it to you. Gregg Braden points out that the Universe is like a computer. It doesn’t give you what you want; it gives you what you ask for. Just like a computer,

what you want takes time to get here and it may not show up in the form you expected. Saving yourself is not about spending a decade alone in a cave on a mountain. These things are not bad, but let me tell you they are surely not the only way. It doesn't necessarily make one enlightened. Spend every moment in the moment with every breath. Enlightenment cannot exist without ignorance. At the same time you can't spend your life identifying ignorance just to make yourself feel enlightened. STOP MAKING YOURSELF A MARTYR. There will always be things that are perceived as bad or negative. Those things are not only necessary, but a part of a greater perfection that exists throughout the Universe. Here is a little tip; listen to the Beatles for a moment. Cultivated persons are not sad when misfortune occurs. They use the occasion to seek errors within themselves. By cultivating humility, they fend off further misfortune. They are modest and careful in times of great fortune. They are grateful and reverent. They will also consolidate their gains, search for seeds of misfortune, and prepare for the future. Practice forms the final aspect of the group of universal practices. This is known as saving yourself. It builds upon the practices found in the awakening of the elements and cosmic connection. All of the fusion practices focus on clearing the various energy pathways in the body and are prerequisites for the practice of the Immortal Tao, found in the soul body. The opening of the channels enables practitioners to balance and regulate the energy flow throughout the body. Through this you will finally heal.

Flawlessly Imperfect Her heart beats melodically against the steering wheel Like crescendos pounding against the rim. Imprinting passion wrought by the chaos dripping from her palms. Love is never lost from leaving, It crumbles with the progression; With the momentum of unsettled tears finally breaking free. And time overlaps so that we can endure tomorrow. Carry ourselves into the next moment so that we may be born again. Delivered from our self-evident agonies that teeter against our sanity Filled with righteousness Offering our inadequate sorrows the chance to be relevant. The chance to be remembered, To be thought of in between smiles that were better left unhinged. Open Wide open Wide open to the reality that shadows do not always mimic our will to be better, But more often... All that we are ashamed of. Yet freedom lies within learning to love yourself despite pointed fingers. The world was not made to love you. You were made to love it. We were all made to be Flawlessly Imperfect.
