ATT’s 19th Annual Golf Tournament was held on Wednesday, June 15, at Schaffer’s Mill Golf Club near Truckee. Thanks to our generous Title Sponsors, BMD and Johns Manville, for supporting CATT in a big way! 152 golfers endured wind and snow to compete for prizes and awards, and later heard from BMD VP of Specialty Sales & Purchasing Chris Garlieb at the after-play party. The 18 Tee Boxes featured a wide variety of great product and company information. The lunch, appetizer and bar sponsors ensured no one would leave hungry or thirsty. The ever-popular Raffle-Mobile was back and brightly decorated. gain this month I would like to welcome a new board member, Grady Jones of Bobby Jones Concrete. Grady got his start in the Truckee area when CATT member Clark Gillis of Sierra Insulation recommended Grady to Greg Hines. Grady obviously performed, and as they say, the rest is history. Now Grady calls the area home. Welcome Grady and thanks for joining the board! We now have a complete board of 15 members, however 5 of those member seats are up for election. Any CATT member can run for the board. If you are interested, please call the office at 530-550-9999. Pat will gladly help you out. Also I think it’s time once again to recognize the great staff we have here at CATT. Pat, Peg, and Val make being a board member a breeze. They have got this place running super smooth and are very helpful to the board as a whole and individually. Thanks girls, you make being President EZ! In my travels around the Truckee/Tahoe area, I get approached by many contractors, suppliers, and building department officials wanting to bend my ear so to speak about a myriad of issues facing the industry and the positive effect CATT has had on the local building industry. Having been around CATT since its very beginning, it is ultra-gratifying to hear all about CATT successes and the importance of CATT. The positive comments cover a variety of things, from taking part in discussions to help shape codes and regulations to be as user friendly as possible, to jobs that were procured from the Jobs to Bid program, all the way to acquaintances made at CATT mixers, golf tourney, clay shoot, softball game, etc. Once again I thank you all for being a part of this great association and most important industry!

he Contractors Association of Truckee Tahoe Political Action Committee (CATTPAC), and Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce (TDCC) have teamed up with TTCTV-Channel 18 (Truckee Tahoe Community Television), the Sierra Sun and Moonshine Ink newspapers to provide two candidate forums aimed at enhancing voter education and participation in the upcoming election. The forum dates are September 14 and 15. The candidate filing period begins July 18, 2016 and more information on the ballot measures, open seats and the candidates who are running will be available soon. The forums will be broadcast live from the Truckee Town Hall Council Chambers. Additionally, TTCTV-Channel 18 will stream the video on their home page at www.ttctv.org and air a series of reruns of the forums. The candidates will not only answer live audience questions but will also answer questions submitted by the public in advance to the Forum organizers. These forums are provided as a public service by the sponsoring groups in conjunction with TTCTV-Channel 18 and the Sierra Sun and Moonshine Ink newspapers. Both forums will be held at Truckee Town Hall Council Chambers at 10183 Truckee Airport Road.

he Tahoe Truckee Unified School District is looking for instructors to teach “3D Design and Printing” and “Robotics and eTextiles” classes. The instructors need to be certified to teach in California K-12 or college levels. The instructors would work with approximately 30 students from 6th to 8th grades using a ProjectBased Learning approach. Teaching dates are August 1 through August 5. Classes run from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. One to three high school interns with content experience and guest experts will assist the instructor. Pay for the instruction is $1,600. e have a new, confirmed date for the 2nd Annual C.A.T.T. Community Project Coed Softball Tournament which was snowed out on May 21. The new date is Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, 8 a.m. registration. The Tournament will be held at the Truckee River Regional Park, 10500 Brockway Road, Truckee. Come on out for the great food, beer, swag and fun! Please mark your calendars and we’ll see you there!

Mitigation Fees

Many special districts charge mitigation fees on new construction. The Truckee Fire Protection District is conducting an update to their mitigation fee study. The fee study serves as the basis or justification for their mitigation fee program. The update looks at current TFPD facilities and population and then projects future population and TFPD needs. The estimated cost for TFPD’s future buildings or equipment is then divided by the numbers of new units or people and then converted into a fee amount to be paid per square foot of construction. The fee update is proposed to be presented to the TFPD Board for adoption July 19. Truckee Donner Recreation and Park District is processing their annual inflationary adjustment to both mitigation fees and the Quimby in-lieu fees for subdivisions. Their fee study was done in 2013 and it also looks at existing facilities and population and estimates what will be needed in the future. Their increase was adopted by the TDRPD May 26. For both of these districts, the Truckee Town Council and Nevada County Board of Supervisors must approve the special districts’ fee increases for construction occurring within the Town or County. The effective date of both increases is set for October 1. Choices Kitchen Gets A New Stove

hoices, a nonprofit day program supporting adults with developmental disabilities, received a much needed cooktop and oven, thanks to some help from generous donors, the Rotary Club of Truckee, and C.A.T.T. Community Project, a charitable arm of the Contractors Association of Truckee Tahoe. Kimberly Majors, the program director for Choices explains, “At our program, we teach our clients the skills they need to become successful, independent community members. One very important skill to living independently is being able to prepare meals and feed yourself. At our day program facility on Pioneer Trail, we have been using hot plates and crockpots to teach these skills, but this does not translate into the home.” Kimberly applied for and received a grant from the Rotary Club. With $500 and help from CATT member Charlie Riley (Truckee Hometown Sears Store) the new stove was delivered to the site. “Unfortunately, it was then that we learned the 30-amp outlet and wire gate would not support the stove; it needed a 50-amp outlet and about 40 feet of copper wiring.” Community Project Chairman Dave Rhoden (Caseywood) reached out for help from the CATT membership. John Walterscheid (Consolidated Electrical Distributors, Inc.) stepped right up to donate all materials and supplies. Tyler Wright (TW Electric) donated his time and expertise in the installation. “We’re finally able to help our clients learn the life skills they need to become independent”, Kimberly said. “We so appreciate all your work and organization for getting us our new, working range! We love it and will put it to great use! Thank you C.A.T.T. Community Project!”

CATT member Erskine Photography recently joined forces with Glasforms and Art Obsessions to open a new collaborative gallery called Art Truckee. Art Truckee is located in the old Capitol Building at 10072 Donner Pass Road in downtown Truckee. The goal of the collaborative gallery is to bring back a little bit of Truckee’s beloved history and more of the culture that already brings people to downtown. Beautiful photography, paintings, blown glass and other pieces of unique art are on display for purchase. Live music, theatre and other inspired performing arts will also add to Art Truckee’s historic ambience. Congratulations to Erskine Photography on this new venture!

he Tahoe City Public Utility District (TCPUD)’s Technical Services Division recently held a Contractors’ Forum to increase the District’s public outreach efforts and establish better communication with contractors who frequently work within the TCPUD service area. TCPUD’s Support Services Department Director, Sean Barclay and Technical Services Supervisor, Kris Vickers discussed the District’s commitment to providing our customers with the highest level of service while running an efficient, cost effective operation that is responsible to all of our customers, rate-payers and tax payers. The Forum included some great feedback and discussion on how we can work to better serve the contractor community. We plan to hold another forum next spring and will work with CATT to spread the word. The Technical Services team is committed to acting in accordance with the District’s Core Values and would like to encourage your feedback, positive or negative on how we’re living up to these values. Another interested in getting back to work discovers there is an extra step or two because of his ‘inactivity’. Like a rerun of Johnny Carson’s rerun of The Tonight Show’s fortune teller act Karnak-The-Great, I ‘telecommunicate’ an answer for an electrical contractor… Q: We currently have a “C-10” (Electrical) license. I am aware that we can do low voltage work with our current license, however some of our customer’s request that we have a “C-7” (Low Voltage) license in order to do telecommunications work. How difficult would it be to add that classification to our license? Would I have to take the test? A: B&P Code section 7065.3 allows for Contractors to request a Waiver of the Trade Exam for some additional classifications—if the classification is closely related to your current license and is a significant portion of the work you perform. These Waiver requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and is dependent on your work experience and project background, but I believe you would have a pretty good chance of being approved to Waive the exam based on your “C-10” experience. Waiver requests need to be done in writing. Q: I’m scheduled to take the “B” (General Building) exam at the end of the month. (1) If I don’t pass how much does it cost to retake it? (2) How long do I have to wait to take it again? (3) Is there a limit to the number of times I can take it?

A: If you fail the exam you are required to pay a $60 rescheduling fee. The fee should be submitted with the application on the bottom of the notice informing you that you didn’t pass. The CSLB will then reschedule you for the exam (usually about three weeks out), and you can take the exam as many times as needed within an 18-month period. If you don’t pass within 18 months, your application ‘strikes out’ and will be void. Q: I have an Inactive license that I obtained years ago and I want to Reactivate it. The Responsible Managing Employee (RME) that I used to obtain the license no longer works with me and I want to become the Responsible Managing Officer (RMO) on the license. Can I still reactivate it? A: Yes, however, a reactivation application requires the signature of your Qualifier. Therefore, I would suggest completing an Application to Replace your Qualifier in order to then add yourself as the RMO, and then request a Reactivation application. Call if you need any assistance.
