ecember is here and the hustle and bustle of the holiday season is upon us. Be sure to bring your family down to the Club this month and enjoy some of the holiday season with us. Friday, December 10 is our Holiday Open House & Adult Soiree. Kids can get their picture with Santa and the family can enjoy an evening of horse-drawn sleigh rides around Town Square. Also during the open house, adults can sign up to enjoy our chocolate fondue while sipping on wine and eggnog. As we enjoy this time of year with family and friends please remember that this is also a time of giving. Be sure to swing on by the Club and participate in our stock the tree event to help out those who are less fortunate. Winter also means that the mountains are starting to get covered with snow and the resorts are opening up for another season. To celebrate the ski and snowboard season, the Club will once again be selling discounted lift tickets to Northstar-At-Tahoe. For further pricing and information please call or stop by the Club. Finally, we want to wish everyone in Somersett a safe and happy holiday season with friends and family. If we do not see you this holiday season, we look forward to seeing you in 2011!

A new year is about to begin! 2011 is right around the corner and there are many things to reflect upon for Sierra Canyon from 2010 that shows a bright future for our community! Everything from Sierra Canyon’s continued success in reducing expenses and adding revenue to the association to adding new editions to staff and the establishment of future goals to make our community an even stronger association! There were several actions implemented in 2010 that reduced expenses and increased revenue for Sierra Canyon. We took on payroll in-house and saved the association several thousands of dollars instead of having Associated Management Inc., our management company, perform this job. I also worked on getting more revenue from advertising on our website, placing weather stripping on our lodge doors to make us more energy efficient and continuing to generate huge savings by not using an outside pool and spa service and instead using Doug Wilson, our maintenance person, to perform this job (Doug became certified to be able to do this). These are just a few of the items from 2010 that helped the association financially and we will continue to look at new ways in 2011 that will again make Sierra Canyon operate more efficiently. Speaking of efficiency in 2010 we added several invaluable new employees onto staff in Ronda, Shaylene and Marsha! I was able to restructure the association staff positions to not only make the positions of Fitness and Administration/Activities more efficient but save the association a considerable amount of money in the process (tens of thousands of dollars). Sierra Canyon staff sets goals each year on how we can cut expenses, produce more revenue and continue to do this while providing exceptional customer service! I hope as residents of Sierra Canyon you are as thrilled as I am with our new employees and we will continue to create employee goals this coming year that will make Sierra Canyon run even more cost effective while providing exception customer service! My door is always open and I welcome from homeowners of Sierra Canyon any suggestions as to how to improve our operations. Feel free to stop by anytime with comments and feedback and we hope that 2011 brings as much success as 2010 for Sierra Canyon!

A New Year Ahead… As we say farewell to 2010, we look back on a year filled with hard work, some fun, and many tasks accomplished. And as we look forward to 2011, we embrace all of the new challenges and the excitement that goes along with the new adventures of a New Year. The winter season is here. And while we experience it every year, it’s always worthy of a few reminders.
Irrigation. By now, your personal irrigation systems should be winterized. If they’re not, please perform this task right away, or contact a local licensed landscaping company who will be happy to provide the service for you. Decorations. For those of you who enjoy decorating the exterior of your home for the holidays, please remember that decorations must be removed by January 31st. Road Conditions. Please be aware that certain areas of Somersett Parkway are more challenging this time of year; particularly the first half mile near the entrance. It is shaded and can become icy. Please drive slowly through this area—and throughout all of Somersett this winter season. Wildlife. There are red and white Deer X-ing signs alerting you to the presence of resident wildlife. Again, please drive slow—doing so will come in handy in the event you are startled by deer in the roadway. Pets. Somersett is a beautiful place to walk your pets. Please help keep it beautiful and clean; bring along your plastic bags and please pick up after your pets.
