In 2007, we opened our recycling plant to lessen the impact of plastic in landfills. Over a decade later, millions of pounds of plastic driplines have been salvaged from farms and incorporated into the production of our landscape driplines through a process perfected by Netafim.

Today, Netafim is still the only industry manufacturer to commit to an end to end cycle of sustainability.

N

evada Landscape Association’s very own Pam Bedard was in the hospital for over a month fighting Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She was hospitalized on January 3rd after a sudden diagnosis and has already gone through one round of chemotherapy, which she handled like a champ! Even if you never had the good fortune to meet Pam in person, you’ve certainly reaped the rewards of her stellar work of eleven years on the NLA board, and you’ve likely enjoyed her work around town—did you know she grows and maintains the petunia baskets that hang in downtown Reno on the Truckee River, throughout Wing field Park, and the Rose Garden at the Peace Officers Memorial at Idlewild Park? Pam was a horticulturist from childhood—she spent her youth begrudgingly watering the greenhouse for her father’s business and although she couldn’t wait to get away from it, she also couldn’t deny her talent and passion and went on to pursue and earn a bachelor’s degree in Horticulture from Utah State University. She moved to Reno in 2003 and began what would become a legacy in the Reno landscaping community. Pam worked for Reno Lawn,

4

Landscape Nevada

Greenside Up Nursery, Peri Landscape, Moana Nursery, and Legends Landscaping before starting with the City of Reno. She was an active and integral member of the NLA board from 2008–2019. Outside of work (and work-related hobbies), Pam is a dedicated and doting mother to 10 year old Elizabeth, who’s been at the hospital everyday lifting Pam’s spirits and doing arts and crafts. Elizabeth has adorned Pam’s hospital room with paper flowers because real flowers aren’t allowed in the cancer ward. Pam is an honorary member of the Blue Knights, a charitable motorcycle club for active and retired law enforcement and their families. Pam has a huge network of friends who have also been visiting her daily and keeping her in good spirits. The awesome community that we are, many of you have asked how you can help Pam. Here’s how you can help: DONATE BLOOD. Pam’s diagnosis and treatment, which has included numerous blood transfusions, has given her a new appreciation for blood donation. A single donation can save three lives! A hugely successful blood drive was held in her honor on February 13th to kick start her wish for awareness and more donors. You can keep it going by donating at your local blood bank. A fundraising account has been created in Pam’s name at Bank of America. Monetary donations can be made in branch to account #501023653946. Donations will be used to help offset the cost of Pam’s treatment, being off work, and anything Elizabeth needs while Pam is fighting cancer.
