Winter Golf Homework As we get into the colder months what can avid golfers do to keep that golf flame burning. I use the winter months to better my physical condition with a personal and golf specific program from the Titleist Performance Institute. Reno has a couple of TPI Certified Instructors that can perform an evaluation and prescribe a golf specific program for golfers of all ages and abilities. Visit www.mytpi.com for an interesting and beneficial scope of the golf fitness world today. There are many other areas of interest on this website as well. I am also busy reading/studying Short Game Solutions by James Sieckman that provides an in depth technique of the “finesse wedge” shots. Again—if you are an avid golfer try and do something daily that holds your level and gives you a better opportunity to progress in the Spring.

Kids’ Corner Hours & Programming* Monday to Thursday: 8:30 am–12:30 pm; 5:30–7:30 pm Friday: 8:30 am–12:30 pm Saturday: 8 am–12 pm Closed Sunday
Hours vary in the summer due to summer camp; please check website for up-to-date sessions. Kids Corner will be closed in observance of New Year’s on December 31 and January 1. Kids’ Corner Policy Reminders
• Kids’ Corner will only accept children two to six years of age. All children must be registered by the parent for Kids’ Corner prior to their first use of the room. Registration forms are available at the concierge desk or online at mysomersett.com. • Parents with children who are not bathroom independent must remain on Club premises at all times when their child is in Kids’ Corner. This includes such activities as playing tennis, aerobics, using the fitness room, swimming or during a special Club function. • For the morning time slots, parents may sign their child up for either 8:30–10:30 am or 10:30 am–12:30 pm Monday through Friday and either 8–10 am or 10 am–12 pm on Saturday. Evening slot is from 5:30–7:30 pm, Monday through Thursday. • The room operates on a six to one ratio, with a maximum of sixteen children allowed at any given time. To accommodate this ratio, the Club requires reservations to be made at least 24 hours in advance to ensure staffing. Reservations may be made online at mysomersett.com seven days in advance. • All children must be dropped off in Kids’ Corner within 15 minutes of their reservation time. If the parent has not checked in their child within the 15-minute window, the reservation becomes void and the spot will be opened to a child on the wait list. • No-shows will result in a $10 fee per child due to the Club. Cancellations must be received by 8 am on the day of the reservation.

Rules & Regulations
Spotlights Somersett is a Dark Skies Community
You may not be aware that the lighting on your property violates AGC Guideline requirements and the Planned Unit Development (PUD) for Somersett. Somersett is considered a dark sky community, and as such, no up-lighting is allowed in our neighborhoods. Lighting levels should be soft, unobtrusive and limited to reduce impact on dark skies. Lighting should be directed downward or shielded, and should not spill over to any adjacent properties or be so bright that it 20
Snow Removal and Street Sweeping Snow removal and street sweeping within the sub-associations of the Village and the Vue are the responsibility of the sub-associations. Other private streets within the Association will be snow plowed when there is an accumulation of three inches on the street. Streets will be swept within a reasonable time frame following the last snowfall to clear the streets of sand and debris. For snow removal and sweeping issues on city-owned streets, call Reno Direct at 3342099. Homeowners are responsible for maintaining the sidewalks adjacent to their property. The Association will plow the common area pathways/sidewalks along the three major parkways (Somersett, Del Webb and Somersett Ridge) if there is still snow on the walkways within 48 hours after the end of snowfall.
Compliance Information To report a non-compliance, please email or call Stephanie Viau at sviau@mysomersett.com or 787-4500 x310. Please note that while we do investigate and document each complaint received, we cannot disclose the status of anyone’s account. Should a homeowner not respond to or correct a violation, he or she will be summoned to a hearing and could be suspended from the Club and assessed fines. At this time the Association has a policy not to enter a property unless it is bank owned, and then only to repair front yard landscaping.

Glenda Powell
A
t the same time Glenda becomes a member of the SOA Board, she is celebrating a 10 year anniversary—10 years living in Somersett. With a belief that a homeowner “owes something back” to one’s community, she has been active throughout her 10 years. Heavily involved with Sierra Canyon committees now and in years past and for the last three years as a member of the Somersett Community Standards Committee. She knows the history of the community, understands NRS requirements and demonstrates that knowledge in a very stately and focused way. Glenda has a very diverse background, spending much of her career in Human Resources. Much of that experience was dealing with very difficult issues including negotiating with many bargaining units across multiple industries. She worked for Dole Foods for 14 years starting on a mushroom farm in Salem, Oregon. When asked if she likes mushrooms, she said she loves them and has been know to bring bushels home to eat. Next she moved onto a food plant which processed cherries, pears and green beans. Then it was onto the San Francisco Bay area where she wrapped up her career with Dole, first at a manufacturing plant and then with the management team in corporate offices.
Although she remained in the Bay Area, she changed jobs a few times. Glenda started her own business recruiting talent for clients. Then joined a boutique environmental consulting company to provide expertise in Human Resources … before she came, let’s just say that expertise was lacking. As with any consulting firm, there were highs and lows including the difficult need for layoffs. Anyone who has experienced that need within his/her own company understands that a high level of finesse is required to lessen the blow and help the remaining employees remain motivated as they pick up the slack. Her final stop was with the San Francisco Housing Authority where she negotiated contracts with multiple bargaining units, managed employee relations, including EEOC investigations. Her greatest challenge was working with the employees who often came from the housing units and were often ill-prepared to know “how to work”. After three years, she made the decision to leave the rat race with her partner, Jerry, get out of California and away from CA state income tax. She learned of Somersett through one of her three sons who lives in Reno. She and Jerry came looking after the big snow of 2004 (boy would we give for one of those today). They agreed on Sierra Canyon because it was a place their kids and grandkids could visit but not live next door; it was in Nevada; and it was a quieter way of life after living in San Francisco and experiencing bullet holes in their home and car constantly in their driveways. Reno provided a quick commute to the Bay Area and very importantly excellent medical services. Luckily they sold before the crash and bought here right on the cusp of housing prices falling. The transition was easy for Glenda, not so much for Jerry as he was a true city boy. But now, well, they are both settled in and enjoying all Somersett has to offer. Glenda brings to the Board many skills which can be used to encourage a better relationship between the “we and they”. Her goal is to bring the various communities of Somersett “together” and form a cohesive unity among all homeowners. We welcome that mindset and look forward to her active participation in the many goals and projects we have in front of us in 2016.
