Our Philosophy of Care:
Over 25 years creating Meaningful Moments®
To care for each individual with dignity and respect and join you in honoring them.
Earlier this year my mother became a resident of Stone Valley. Unfortunately, she passed away too soon; however, by the time she did, we had all become part of the Stone Valley “family.” While my mother was there, we were reassured and so thankful for the level of care and love she received every day from the entire team. —Leslee P.

GOLF TIP: Fundamentals By Stuart Smith—PGA Director of Golf
A
s we get excited about the new golf season the best thing we can do as players is to refresh our memory with pre-swing fundamentals. These fundamentals include hold of the club, stance, posture, hand position and ball position. You will increase your chances of improving this coming season if these are up to speed. Improving leads to enjoying. Simply said, hold of the club for a right-hander is as follows: 1) Hold your club in the last three fingers of your left hand. 2) Next place the heel pad of your left hand on the top of the club. 3) Lightly apply your thumb and forefinger with the “V” that they form pointing to your right cheek to right shoulder.
4) Place right middle two fingers underneath your left index finger. 5) House your left thumb in between the two pads of your right hand. 6) Lightly apply your thumb and forefinger with the “V” that they form pointing to your right cheek and right shoulder. 7) Clubface should be aimed at your target. It is very common that when getting into a golf posture we simply droop our shoulders and bow down to the ball. It is important to understand that good posture starts from bending at the hips while keeping the chest fairly tall. Slightly rounded is OK—but no drooping! The simplest of golf swings is performed around a flat back/straight spine. Make sure you keep ball position for your higher lofted clubs in the center while progressively moving the ball forward as the clubs get longer. A good rule of thumb is that your 5 iron will be approximately at the ¼ mark while the driver will be just inside your left heel. Need help? Our professional staff at the country club is anxious to get you on your way to better golf. You won’t find a more experienced teaching crew in all of Reno. Give us a call at 775-787-1800, ext 2.

ver since 2012 when the City of Reno designed public streets within Somersett as “routes of access’’ for golf carts, the vehicles have become a common sight during the warmer months. Motorists should stay vigilant and watch out for the slow-moving carts, which have a right to the road in this community.

City code also states that golf carts must be operated in daylight by a licensed driver and the carts are required to have headlights, tail lamps, reflectors, stop lamps, an emblem or placard for slow-moving vehicles, a mirror and brakes. Signs on Somersett and Del Webb parkways mark the points beyond which golf carts are not permitted. SOA Rules and Regulations allow golf carts on Somersett’s private streets and pathways.

Somersett West Park: Coming Soon!
T
he park with something for everyone has moved from a concept to an approved plan. The City of Reno will begin the bidding process soon and construction could start as early as this fall. West Park will join East Park as the second city park located totally within the Somersett community. West Park will be larger and will have more features, including: • A dog park with separate areas for large and small dogs • Raised community garden beds • A family play area • A pavilion and BBQ grills • A large, flat grassy area • Exercise paths • Restrooms • A parking lot with access to a trailhead • Stunning views of the surrounding mountains But these features cannot be built without donations, which will fill the gap between the city’s construction budget of $800,000 and the estimated full project budget of $1,244,080. Go to the West Park Donation page administered by Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation to learn more or better yet, become a park “angel’’!

COMMUNITY PROFILE
VETERANS GUEST HOUSE: A HOME AWAY FROM HOME FOR OUR VETERANS
20
F
or more than two decades, the Veterans Guest House has served thousands of veterans and their families—from newborns to 90-year-old’s. Since the beginning, the need for a “home away from home” for our veterans has continued to grow. In June of this year, the doors will open to our new expansion that will serve twice as many veterans and families as the house presently serves. The mission of the Guest House is to provide temporary lodging for U.S. military service veterans and their families while they are receiving treatment at any medical facility in Reno-Sparks. Whether a veteran or immediate family member needs medical treatment, the Guest House stands ready to remove the burden of lodging from their shoulders. Guests can be receiving treatment from any doctor or medical facility, in addition to the VA Hospital, including long-term care facilities. Guests typically live at least 30 miles away from Reno and fall into three categories: veterans receiving outpatient care, families of veterans who are hospitalized, and veterans whose immediate family member is receiving medical treatment as an inpatient or outpatient. Anyone who has served in our military knows that the family serves, too.
Support Us! Upcoming Events Supporting the Veterans Guest House May 26th 6th Annual Summer Salute Car Show Rancho San Rafael Park June 15th Golfing For Our Heroes Red Hawk Golf & Resort October 4th Boots Meets Fashion, Fashion Meets Fun Fashion Show Peppermill Resort Hotel
The new expansion, under construction, is a 12,000 square-foot building which is adjacent to the current Guest House at 880 Locust St. in Reno. It will increase the number of beds from 17 to 33. With the expansion, the Guest House will be able to provide more than 12,000 nights of comfort annually for the veterans and families. This project will allow the Guest House to serve our veterans and their families long into the future with your help. The Veterans Guest House is the only facility of its kind in the country. It is supported completely through the generosity of the private sector and our community. All funds stay here in the community and no government funds or assistance are used. There are many ways businesses and people can be involved in helping the Guest House from volunteering their time, to supplying meals, to attending fundraisers.

Assessment Reminder
Rules & Regulations Spotlight
Assessments are due on the first of each month and are overdue if not paid by the 30th of the month. A late fee of $25 will be posted to accounts not paid by the 30th of the month. Accounts 60 days past due will lose clubhouse and/or Canyon Nine privileges. Accounts 75 days past due will be sent to collections.
Assessment Payments Submitted Online (via Paylease) Did you know you can pay your monthly assessments online from the FirstService Residential website? Payments submitted online go through ClickPay, a third-party payment processing company. Payments submitted through ClickPay typically take up to three business days to be credited to your assessment account. Please keep this information in mind for last-minute assessment payments as payments received after the 30th are subject to a $25 late fee. ClickPay charges a fee for its payments made by debit or credit card. There is no fee if you pay by e-check. For an extra fee, you may arrange to have a payment posted within one business day. You may also submit payments to the SOA office, via check or money order only.

PARKING With the summer on the horizon it is a good time for a reminder that boats, trailers, campers and recreational vehicles are permitted on a lot for a period of 48 hours for the purpose of loading and unloading only. Vehicles must be removed from the property for a total of three days in order to return for another 48 hours. Parking on private streets between the hours of 2 and 6 am is prohibited. If you need to park on a private street during those hours, you may obtain a 72-hour parking pass from the concierge at The Club at Town Center. Passes are limited to one single license plate per residence per month. If a vehicle has been parked on a city street more than 48 hours, please report the vehicle to Reno Direct at 775-334-4636.
