Tips from the Country Club Stuart Smith – PGA Director of Golf

Pre Swing Fundamentals

A

s we get excited for the new golf season the best thing we can do as players is to refresh our memory with pre-swing fundamentals. Pre-swing fundamentals include hold of the club, stance, posture, hand position and ball position. You will increase your chances of improving this coming season more if these are up to speed. Improving leads to enjoying. Simply said you hold of the club for right hander is as follows: 1) Hold club in last three fingers of your left hand. 2) Next place the heel pad of your left hand on the top of the club. 3) Lightly apply your thumb and forefinger with the “V” that they form pointing to your right cheek to right shoulder. 4) Place right middle two fingers underneath your left index finger.

5) House your left thumb in between the two pads of your right hand. 6) Lightly apply your thumb and forefinger with the “V” that they form pointing to your right cheek and right shoulder. 7) Clubface should be aimed at your target. It is very common that when getting into a golf posture we simply droop our shoulders and bow down to the ball. It is important to understand that good posture starts from bending at the hips while keeping the chest fairly tall. The simplest of golf swings is performed around a flat back/straight spine. Make sure you keep ball position for your higher lofted clubs in the center while progressively moving the ball forward as the clubs get longer. A good rule of thumb is that your 5 iron will be approximately at the ¼ mark while the driver will be just inside your left heel. Need help? Our professional staff at the country club is anxious to get you on your way to better golf. You won’t find a more experienced teaching crew in all of Reno. Give us a call at 787-1800.

Attention to detail

A

beautifully decorated interior not only functions well but it creates a mood or a feeling and shows off the personality of the family that lives there It’s attention to these three important ingredients—function, mood and personality—that ensures decorating success.

Function Decorating is more than just eye appeal—it’s making a room really work for you. Here’s how to do it, element by element: • Focal point: If the room doesn’t have a natural focal point, create one! A dynamic piece of art or a colorful area rug. • Furniture: Determine whether the furniture satisfies the functions you’ve planned for the room. • Lighting: Lighting should be selected for the functions of the room as well as for visual appeal. • Furniture arrangement: Creative layout of traffic areas and conversation as well as dining and media function well when thought out. Be sure to balance high and low pieces as well as heavy and light ones around the room.

Mood The mood or feeling of a room is created by your choice of colors, the style of furnishings, the amount of texture and pattern you choose and your accessories. Since there’s so much to think about when creating a mood, establishing a theme through the selection of an inspiration piece can make this portion of a decorating project much more fun and interesting.

Personality Here’s your chance to put your personal stamp on a well-planned room. Here are some strategies:

• Accessorizing: Generally, they should support your theme and heirlooms, but allow more flexibility. Accessories are located on walls, mantels, furniture, tabletops and floors; they can even be upholstered headboards, linens and pillows. • The unexpected: Interest doesn’t have to be whimsical however, a touch can never hurt. it can simply be something unexpected in a room, like a brightly-upholstered reading chair. —Article courtesy of Evco Interiors

Time to Catch Spring Fever! While the change in seasons is exciting for pets, it’s also time to pay attention when you’re out and about. Yards and Gardens Pesticides and fertilizers may contain chemicals hazardous to pet health. Watch for applications in neighborhoods and parks, too. Use only pet friendly products! Standing Water Stagnant water can harbor infectious agents. Two diseases contracted from drinking standing water are Giardia and Leptospirosis. Giardia is the most common, causing diarrhea and dehydration. Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that can cause extreme sickness, requiring intensive treatment. Always carry fresh water for thirsty pets! Mosquito Alert! We’re already hearing that mosquitoes will be plentiful this year. All it takes is one bite from a mosquito that’s bitten an infected animal for a dog to contract Heartworm. Now‘s the time to get pets tested for Heartworm and start a monthly preventive like Heartgard to protect against disease. Car Rides Dogs love the feel of the wind on their faces, but it’s a dangerous practice. Flying debris and even bugs can cause eye, ear and lung injuries. Keep heads inside! hom.300.16 homecrafters corporate7.5x4.6.pdf

Hot Cars It may feel balmy to you, but temperatures in the 70’s rapidly rise to the 90’s in just 10 minutes in a parked car. After 30 minutes, temps can escalate to the 100’s, even with windows partially open. Pets can suffer brain damage or even die from heat stroke and suffocation in these conditions. Let them chill at home! Allergies Spring stirs up pet allergies, too. Sneezing, scratching, nose rubbing and skin rash are all signs that plants and pollens may be irritating your pet. Neglected allergies cause discomfort and even lead to infection, so get pets checked when symptoms arise. Enjoy spring fun outdoors, and remember … Safe play is the best play! Why Somersett: Truth be told it was the family dynamic and neighbors that I grew up with in Washoe Valley. The nearest neighbor was five acres away. When you grow up in that type of country life and you’re a social person, you miss the “breakfast/coffee next-door” that you see on TV. In short I wanted to be closer to my fellow citizens. Not having children I wanted to create bonding with the people I live next to.

Should a homeowner not respond to or correct a violation, he or she will be summoned to a hearing and could be suspended from the Club and assessed fines. At this time the Association has a policy not to enter a property unless it is bank owned, and then only to repair front yard landscaping.

Bryan Allegretto

S

omersett welcomes our new Community Manager, Bryan Allegretto. On the job now for approximately two months, Bryan has quickly gotten his feet wet with the important issues facing the Somersett community. Bryan comes to Somersett via a 26-year stint along the New Jersey shore where he was born and raised with his two sisters. Bryan graduated from Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey with a degree in Economics/Finance. After graduation, Bryan wanted to find a location where he could snowboard and surf. After coming out to Truckee to see “whether he would like it”, he joined a ski company and then went into the hospitality industry for the last 10 years. He met his beautiful wife, Mikayla, and they have three children—Taylor, age 8, Jayce, age 6 and Lux, age 20 months. Mikayla is a Mom who is homeschooling their children. Recently the family moved close to the Somersett entrance and Bryan’s long commute changed from 2 hours a day to just minutes, leading to a welcomed difference in lifestyle where Dad is now home for dinner and putting the kids to bed. In his free time, Bryan spends time playing in the mountains with his family, or working on his cars—he is a member of the Reno Camaro club and he has a 1969, 1986, and 2016 Camaro. While in the hospitality industry, Bryan managed at condo hotel resorts including: The Ritz Carlton Lake Tahoe, The Resort at Squaw Creek, and Stowe Mountain Lodge. Most recently he was a regional GM for the Reno-Tahoe area for Miramar Hospitality. From these experiences, Bryan learned to look at everyone as a customer including his employees who worked as one team to treat all guests at the highest level of respect. He brings those values to Somersett with a goal that homeowners will trust that the staff listens to them and have their best interests in mind. In addition, he is asking the staff to move quickly on areas brought to their attention so homeowners can see changes on a timely basis. With new eyes on the community, Bryan is concerned with the under-utilization of events and clubhouse activities. His hope with the hiring of the Communication Manager to communicate more with the homeowners and promote the incredible programs designed by the staff for kids and adults. Bryan’s dedicated to Somersett is already apparent. He wants to provide great customer service to homeowners so that the community’s reputation, home values, and home building continue to grow. 28
