Winter/Snow Season

We kindly ask that you refrain from winter activities on both of our golf courses during the winter season. We do not allow tubing, tobogganing, sledding, saucering, skiing, snowboarding or any other winter activity on either course during winter months. Damage caused by these activities becomes apparent in the spring and playing conditions are greatly sacrificed. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Golf Tip — Putting

As we move into winter and temperatures prevent many of us from heading out to the golf course, take the opportunity to work on simple putting fundamentals in the comfort of your own home. I recommend a few basic fundamentals – ball placed slightly left of center (for right handers), eyes over ball and equal back, equal through with the putter head. Remember that the motion of the putter includes shoulders, arms, hands, putter grip and putter head all working at the same tempo. Putting is not just a hand activity if you are striving for consistency. PGA and LPGA tour players have tempos of 62–72 beats per minute regardless of the length of putt they face.

Short putt = short back and slower through – at X tempo | Long putt = longer back and faster through – ALSO at X tempo You can purchase an inexpensive app for your smartphone to monitor your tempo. I use Metron. Need help with putting this winter? Have your putting stroke evaluated on our TOMI Putting Stroke Analyzer at the country club golf shop with Stuart Smith, our PGA director of golf, for $40. Stuart can be reached at 787-1800 ext 705 or email him at ssmith@somersett.com to set an appointment.

fitness classes L.I.F.T.

We are introducing a new drop-in class to the fitness schedule starting November 7. L.I.F.T., or Less Intense Functional Training, will focus on body conditioning to increase flexibility and control weight through low impact maneuvers and exercise. The class, scheduled from 12–1 pm, will stand in lieu of our Water Fitness class during the winter. For a complete description of all our classes, please visit the fitness class page of our website at mysomersett.com.

Personal Training

Personal training is a great way to get personalized routines designed to increase your performance and fitness results. And if you’re new to the gym or coming back after some time off, our personal trainers can help you get back into shape safely with faster results. Please check out the sports tab of our website for personal training specials and tips. The Club at Town Center has a great fitness tool to track personal achievements. Fitassess.com is a web-based fitness assessment program that gives personal trainers the tools to conduct a complete physical assessment for their clients. Tests include BMI, blood pressure, body fat analysis, body measurements, cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility and muscular endurance. The program compiles these results for a ranking that is compared to national averages, and it also provides a number for a body’s fitness age. This information is useful for determining a starting point and making it easy to set realistic goals. It’s also a means of tracking your overall improvement, which boosts motivation and keeps you focused on your training. For more information or to set up your physical assessment session, please speak to any of our personal trainers.
