Play Championship Golf at the Somersett Country Club Course November Tee Times: Tuesday through Sunday starting at 9 am* December Tee Times: Tuesday through Sunday starting at 11 am*

*Weather dependent. Please call the golf shop at 787-1800 x2 to confirm.

Don’t forget, all Somersett residents can play the championship country club course twice every year. Each resident may book a foursome of players at a rate of $60 per player in season and $40 per player during the off season (November through March). This includes green fee, driving range usage and golf cart. We take tee times for residents three days in advance at 787-1800 x2. Men, please remember our simple dress code of no denim, collared golf shirts and caps worn forward at all times. For the ladies, we ask no denim, no spaghetti-strapped tops, bare midriffs or short shorts. Proper footwear such as golf shoes or tennis shoes is required.

Residents may also access the putting green and chipping/pitching area in addition to unlimited range balls for an all-inclusive price of $15. Please note this is the only way for residents to access the putting green and chipping/pitching area at this time.

Winter/Snow Season We kindly ask that you refrain from winter activities on both of our golf courses during the winter season. We do not allow tubing, tobogganing, sledding, saucering, skiing, snowboarding, or any other winter recreation on either golf course. Damage caused by these activities becomes apparent in the spring and playing conditions are greatly sacrificed. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Golf Tip – Putting

As we head into winter and temperatures prevent many of us from heading out to the golf course, take the opportunity to work on some easy putting fundamentals in the comfort of your own home. Begin with a ball placed slightly left of center (for right handers), with eyes over ball and equal back/equal through with the putter head. Remember, the motion of the putter includes shoulders, arms, hands, putter grip and putter head all working at the same tempo. Putting is not just a hands activity if you are striving for consistency. PGA and LPGA tour players have tempos of 62 to 72 beats per minute regardless of the length of putt they face.

Short putt = short back and slower through – at X tempo Long putt = longer back and faster through – ALSO at X tempo You can purchase an inexpensive app for your smartphone – I use Metron. Need help with your putting this winter? Have your putting stroke evaluated on our TOMI Putting Stroke Analyzer at the country club golf shop with PGA Director of Golf Stuart Smith for $40. Stuart can be reached at 7871800 x705 or email him at ssmith@somersett.com for an appointment.

Personal Training Personal training is a great way to get personalized routines designed to increase your performance and fitness results. And if you’re new to the gym or coming back after some time off, our personal trainers can help you get back into shape safely with faster results. Please check the sports tab of our website for personal training specials and tips. The Club at Town Center has a great fitness tool to track personal achievements. Fitassess.com is a web-based fitness assessment program that gives personal trainers the tools to conduct a complete physical assessment for their clients. Tests include BMI, blood pressure, body fat analysis, body measurements, cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility and muscular endurance. The program compiles these results for a ranking that is compared to national averages, and it also provides a number for a body’s fitness age. This information is useful for determining a starting point and making it easy to set goals. It’s also a means of tracking your overall improvement, which boosts motivation and keeps you focused on your training. For more information or to set up your physical assessment session, please speak to any of our personal trainers.

SIERRA CANYON

“Old people? Where?” This was my thought when a Sierra

Canyon resident asked how I liked working with “old people.” As the new administrative coordinator for Sierra Canyon by Del Webb here in Somersett, I have found our residents to be anything but old! People here are vital, interesting and accomplished active adults who live life to the fullest. I have been a program director for many years working with seniors in Arizona and Colorado, but this is my first experience working within a resort-style active adult community. Everyone loves a great party but in getting to know the residents here at Sierra Canyon, I feel they want and expect more. I’m happy to deliver. I am networking and keeping my ears open for opportunities for our residents. I have been adding things to the calendar – lectures by authors, seminars with experts in different fields, and learning opportunities in addition to parties and shows. We live in a two-for-one town with unending opportunities for food and entertainment so my goal here is to offer unique experiences with a personal touch that we can enjoy as neighbors, creating new friendships and an extended family. I want every person to have a great time at an event or meaningful experience at a lecture, to make new and lasting friendships and to enjoy a feeling of community. Isn’t that part of what makes people want to live here? It’s my job to facilitate that. My husband and I recently had our home built right here in Somersett and we are enjoying the community and all the amenities with our two young sons. We truly feel this is the most beautiful community in Reno and my two-minute commute to work can’t be beat! I feel so blessed to be a part of the Sierra Canyon and Somersett family and I look forward to many fun and enlightening times together. Carpe diem! Sincerely,

Maya Buchanan – ADMINISTRATIVE COORDINATOR, SIERRA CANYON
