Commisioned by the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan this project tried to set an example for upcoming school models in rural areas of Azerbaijan. The project was developed by the student community Studio Architects of Tomorrow.

Concept for a

MIXEDUSE TOWER in AHMADLI

Due to the north oriented growth of the city Ahmadli area has seen an exponential growth in the past decade. The client envisoned a mixed used tower as a new “pearl of the rapidly developing neighbourhood.

Since the surrounding were yet underdeveloped we had to negotiate in terms of scale, pedestrian circulation and division between public and private spaces which was uncommon.

PATCH HALL

The space and especially the auditorium provides an opportunity when needed. It can serve as stairs by using simple boxes that can be moved and reconfigured without any extra equipment.

To have a glimpse of local culture we used traditional patchwork known as “qurama”. participation of the audience is crucial for a successful project, therefore we created a facade that would remind a patchwork on a big scale for everyone can “stick in” their piece of fabric in order to create a bigger picture.

Organizers One Caucasus Town is the part of the One Caucasus Festival organized by The Other Space Foundation (Poland) s a tribute to urban movements across the globe. It uses limited economic resources and proves that functional structures do not need be expensive.

Calls for teams in Azerbaijan The aim of the Azerbaijani call was to create a multifunctional indoor venue in a rural Georgian setting. A rain protected venue that would serve as the main Theatre and Cinema of the One Caucasus Town. Project was completed and got selected in summer 2016 and is planned to be built in summer 2017 for the annual OC

Festival in Marneuli,Georgia.

GRAPHIC DESIGN POSTERS AND BOOK COVERS

Rahman Badalov is a Doctor of Philosophy, he currently works at the department of the theory of consciousness at the institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Law of The National Academy of Sciences. The cover was designed for the upcoming book called “Men and Women: Endless transformations”. The book talks about the recent process of gender equality in the contemporary Azerbaijani society.

Modern to Postmodern: Journey through cinema A poster done for the final screening of theseminar . Ultimate goal was to reflect some of the features of the postmodern theory as well as grabbing attention of the popular culture. My work along others can be found at: https://www.youtube.com/

AMIDS THE GRIDS “To be human is to long for chaos to retract and for order to reign. You might get there in bits and pieces, but some part of you will always know that somewhere, outside, there is a darkness. Todd VanDerWerff

“Every act of remembering is an act of forgetting” and every “truth” we choose to believe in leaves out the others.

The class explored the problematic issues of memory, loss, heritage, and identity. The way the class tried to tackle some of the issues of the most historically charged cities in Europe was through doppelgangers. The ultimate goal was to design a cenotaph and a library as two opposing entities. So different that they become the same, almost the same.

Being placed in the problematic site of Bebelplatz in Berlin specifc project explores the concept of grids and its socio-political and urban connotations and the ideologies it carries in a contemporary european societies. Full text

SYSTEMto PROGRAM PT l, ESTABLISHING THE SYSTEM

Are geometric exercises a valid starting point for a design process? This study of cubes eventually grew into a search of interior spaces and potential experiences they could provide. The structure that is based on the system of compression (stacked up boxes) and tension (supporting chords) is meant to be flexible enough to fit different contexts.

DESIGN STUDIO II

ONE ROOM HOUSE

One Room House - an academic project, developed in several steps during a period of six weeks. Models, collages and diagrams were used to explore both necessities of the given clients and the general character of the house. Elements like the floating library or orthogonal axes by which the disposition of the spaces is arranged were explored during practices with different mediums of representation.

MUSHII Every one of us gets that uncomfortable feeling when left completely alone. And that’s why we have music and TV that would play in the background. But how efficient is that? What if we could have someone by our side that could help us with our feeling of solitude and at the same time help us to concentrate on our daily life without directly interfering in it? Mushii is a prototype inspired by animals and designed to convey a type of feeling you would get from a pet. The same way you would get emotionally attached to your particular animal but it will spare us from being unfair to the animals we often don’t have time for.

Our lives sometimes tend to get very hectic; we move from one place to another and often we a have hard time adapting. Therefore, it’s essential to have something that would always remind us of home and who we are.

FACADE OPTIMIZATION STUDIES

Whitman School of Managment, Syracuse, NY This is a project for the Advamced Building systems in Syracuse University. The goal was to redesign an

Initial shadow studies.

Atrium elevation

UDI, illumination, yearly radiaton and point in time illuminance studies for the current condition.

CURRENT DESIGN Current design of the atrium makes use of horizontal louvers which significantly minimize the sun exposure during the day but we still have 40%

percent overlit and 12% underlit space. Solar

radiation is very similar to ASHRAE where it receives a good amount of radiation throughout the year and

it shows only 2.3% of the are to be in the desired threshold in terms of daylight availability. On the other hand horizontal louvers provide somewhat sufficient solar protection decreasing the daylight glare probability more than 40% compared to the ASHRAE model, the condition still falls under .

The multi goal optimization process using Grasshopper, Galapagos,Octopus and DIVA followed by Glare and UDI analysis.

OPTIMIZED DESIGN The proposed model is a result of more than

3800 iterations and is optimized for glare

probability, desired daylight availability and summer radiation. We managed to get 23% percent of the total area of the atrium to fall under the desired threshold. We also optimized the relationship between summer and winter radiation trying to minimize it in summer and maximize it in winter. Finally, when it comes to daylight glare we see a result as low as 27% which is considered “imperceptible and would allow for a more comfortable use of electronic devices.

I further redisgned the grasshopper definition in order to consider things like view to the outside, existing structure of the atrium and materials used for the louvers currently.

Mercado san Fernando MERCADO San Market transect FERNANDO l. Market Transect

Hybrid section of the San Fernando market and the close neighbourhood. The market is situated in Lavapiesz area; one of the poorest in Madrid. It has two different conditions; market serves as a gathering point on the weekends but on weekdays it is almost completely abandonded. One can almost feel the number of animals sacrificed on a daily basis. I wanted to articulate this unpleasent fact in order to be able to change something later on through the project.

MERCADO San FERNANDO ll. Representing the promenade

Dealing with inside and outside conditions eventually led to the issue of the promanade and how it affects our perception of the place. Being closely familiar with photography of David Hockney I decided that the best way to show this journey from different physical perspectives would be through a photo joiner.

MERCADO San FERNANDO lll. Analyzing the stall

Soon after being assigned a particular stall (beer stall) we decided to explore the way one of the most popular spaces in the market operates on daily basis. Great importance was given to the existing relationships with the other stalls around. Unfrotunately some of the potentially very interesting
